This place would be great for family parties, birthday parties, baby showers, recreational activities, and even private functions. Today's visit was because of the MAKAHIKI festival which my sons Cornwall and Hula Halal had performed for today. Aside of the activities for the MAKAHIKI festival, the performance was awesome. Being that they did a lot on their own by themselves for the first time they did well. HOWEVER, to hold an event & to utilize these facilities, you must have MILITARY CONNECTIONS. OF COURSE, Public access is available to civilians, but with LIMITED ACCESS to the beachfront & shores ONLY. Civilians are NOT ALLOWED to use or rent the facilities. I asked the CITY & COUNTY and they said this place IS NOT on their list & as far as for the STATE, they said they have no rental information on these facilities. So... that means... it's through MILITARY OFFICIALS ONLY! To be honest, I'm SURE military will say it's because this is "PEARL HARBOR", where their military is located, they have to take precautions to whom has access to the area. WHICH FOR ME, KINDA SUCKS because this place WAS once where my kupunas (older aunts & uncles) used swim & look for oyesters for food & pearls for jewelry/decorations, WAAY before the HARBOR was built for the military and now... a grandniece of theirs, a KANAKA, has LIMITED access to the area. As a civilian... we're FORBIDDEN from using "THEIR FACILITY". Doesn't really seem fair, doesn't it?! But that's the so called RULES. let's hope in due time there is a way to allow civilians the use of this area WITHOUT military connections. Anywho, if you have a chance to rent this spot, GO FOR IT!!!! And be sure to TAKE CARE OF THE PLACE TOO! Just because military has the say over this area, doesn't mean we should destroy or ruin the property itself. It is still OUR AINA! And Regardless if your ARE KANAKA OR NOT, just treat this place as if it was YOUR OWN HOME. And if you MISTREAT it and say that's how you'd treat your own home, then I can only imagine how embarrassed your parents must feel to have raised such a sloppy individual. POOR THING, YOU... SAD... The serving line looked like a conference lunch line, not a noteworthy brunch. Not special for mom and not for $95. - Service. Slow to non-existent. One again, seemed thrown together at the last minute. No organization. No one around when you need and hardly any servers. No idea who our server was. - Bait & Switch. Menu said King Crab. Made reservations anticipating king crab. Instead they had pathetic chilled what I'm assuming was snow crab. Menu said fresh island fruits. They had pineapple. That's it. Was sad. The table next to us ended up ordering food from the Deck/Restaurant side to eat in the Leahi Room. - Parking. I know the Hotel doesn't have self parking (and no info on valet validation). They recommend the Zoo lot, but it was PACKED. Ended up parking near the Waikiki Shell and walking 15 minutes to the Deck. Lesson learned. Disappointed because the location and view are AMAZING! Pretty pre-set decor. Although, if wanting to change the decor there's a fee for that. Real flowers/petals are not allowed inside to prevent staining of the petals on the chapel floor, which was a bummer. So we opted to do fake petals, and if they don't have the color you like, there's a fee for providing your own fake petals. The timeframe to have the chapel is a little too short. Only an hour and a half for a very hefty price tag $2900. Make sure to ask for the local discount if you live on the island. It also gets booked fairly quick since many of the tourist book the chapel for their wedding. Beautiful place but expensive and limited timeline and very strict rules.

Camp grounds included a large outdoor commercial-grade tent that the orchestra used for large-group practice. Their next door neighbor is the Kamehameha Schools' Preschool and another part of the Pu'u Kahea center is bordered by a canal: bottom line: safe and secure. There are also newer residential homes along the street where the entrance is located. There's an old "mansion" on the property where Disney filmed the movie Parent Trap in 1998. We used the mansion for some of the chaperones and student officers, and it's really nice. The mansion also includes the dining area and a third floor loft. This facility is affiliated with the Baptist church, however, it's open to anyone. This place would be ideal for church groups or adult groups that need to break out into separate meeting groups. And yes, kids' orchestra/band camps too. Also, our church (Catholic) conducted their teen group's confirmation retreat here as well, with great results. The outdoor facilities include a bonfire area, basketball and volleyball courts. Cons: Minor: their ice machine broke on one of the weekends that we were there, so the parents drove to Kapolei Costco to buy ice. We also heard that our school's band camp the week before also experienced the broken ice machine, therefore the broken ice machine had been unaddressed for at least 2 weeks. There's no pool. the front lawn area is uneven, ungraded, sloped and has trees in a grove, so if you want to do football or soccer, it would be difficult. There are other open areas on the property that might suffice if you need a large open outdoor area. however, because our group spent most of the time indoors and in the grove area, I can't really evaluate the features of the other outdoor spaces.
