Amazing donuts. My favourite place to stop in Halifax for one. I got the Dunkaroo one and it was yummy. Decor is really cute too.

The donuts are A1! They are really tasty! They are quite big, maybe 1.50 times your regular donut size.

I had my first donut this evening. It was delicious! The pastry was perfect with just the right amount of icing.

My new favorite weekend activity is a visit to the Alderney Landing Farmer's Market for a sampling of fresh baked goods and treats. New this year to the Farmer's Market is The Doughnut Stand. Serving up a wide variety of classic and new fusion style doughnuts, The Doughnut Stand offers a delicious, fresh, and local alternative to big chain factory baked goods. They have all the classics from Boston crème, raspberry filled, apple fritter, lemon curd, and maple bacon. The Doughnut Stand also brings an exciting and changing selection of new fusion style doughnuts. So far I've seen Crème egg and mini egg doughnuts for Easter, peanut butter Captain Crunch, carrot cake doughnut, Jalapeño bacon cheddar, and chocolate cherry fritter. You won't find that extreme variety and experimentation anywhere else! Fluffy, light, airly, fresh, and full of flavour I love their doughnuts. To help beat the heat of summer The Doughnut Stand also just released a menu of homemade frozen treats. Popsicles, chocolate dipped bars, and even doughnut ice cream sandwiches filled with Dee Dee's own ice creams. Yes! You heard right, doughnut ice cream sandwiches! The Doughnut Stand is open on Saturdays for the market and other select dates they post on their Facebook pages. They're often at local events nearby or other venues spreading that doughnut-y goodness.

I get a vague sense they do have other doughnuts but I am instantly and always drawn the Maple Bacon. I mean a yeasty doughnut doused in sweet, sticky maple glaze to which crispy, salty nuggets of bacon adhere, I ask you, what else could you ever want? I may try some other flavours but my heart will always belong to the Maple Bacon.

Buried in the depths of Dalhousie's Life Sciences Centre (LSC) you will find this tiny little Tim's…read morelocation. This is kind of a mixed bag. They have most (but not all) of the Tim's products (no lattes - sorry overtired students). They don't accept Tim's cards (neither of the Tim's @ Dal do). And they are busy. Very busy. Obviously, that depends on the time of year - middle of summer = almost no students, not very busy. Which can lead to some long lines. Fortunately the staff are fairly efficient most of the time so the line can move quickly. Still, it's a daunting visual. The layout is a bit awkward too; you have to double-back and cut through the line if you're getting a bagel or something similar. All in all, it's okay.

If I need a quick caffeine or sugar break during the work day, this is where I go. It's not a "full" Tim's location so there is a lot of stuff they don't carry (I don't think they do sandwiches, for example) and they don't accept gift cards (annoying). But you can pay with your Dal card (a form of debit using your ID card), which is handy if you work or study at Dal. Also, the group of girls that work here are kind of nice but they tend to talk amongst themselves a lot. There have been times where I have stood in front of them waiting to be served while they finished chatting about their kids or some girl they don't like or other gossip. While I totally get the need to have a good chinwag with coworkers here and there to make the day go faster (hey, I worked retail for 6 years - I GET it), they do it in front of customers a bit too much. Sometimes I find it rude and I'm sure others do also. They have never messed up my order, so their efficiency can be impressive, especially during busy times, but they need to save the gossiping for slow times when there isn't a line of customers standing there to hear every word.
