It's not the typical "which fruits do you want and we deliver to your door!" type of CSA. This CSA is based in a special kind of farming called biodynamic farming. This is organics on steroids (well, maybe I could have said that a better way, but you get the idea!). Farmers Gloria and Stephen even use horses (hence the truly live power) to work their fields. Another part of it is that, in order to create community and connect people to the farm, members take on part of the work. They don't farm, per se, but they help organize delivery logistics and sorting the vegetables. This CSA is for you if you really care about food activism and reorganizing our economy for equity and sustainability. I've been a member for over a year now and I feel great about the contribution I'm making, the food I'm getting and feeding my children and the friends I've made. I had a friend coming to visit Sonoma County from the East Bay and she had done some research to…read morefind a PYO flower place. She found First Light Farm and recommended that we try it out. We pulled in through the gates and saw a small field of flowers to the left, along with a shed-like structure and a house in the back. The right side was pretty empty; I'm guessing whatever was growing there had already been harvested. We stood around for a few mins pretty confused about how it all worked. We found a sign saying that CSA members get to cut for free and a pricing chart for non-members. There were clippers and a knife sitting next to a stack of boxes, so we grabbed one of each and headed for the garden. The selection wasn't quite what we expected, but we still got a great bunch of flowers and sunflowers. Some were a little difficult to access from the walkways, so we just tried to be as careful as possible. When we were done, we tried to pay, but there wasn't really a designated place to leave money, so we just stuck it under a box inside the shed area (I hope they got it!). Very cute place! A little confusing for first-timers, but overall a nice experience.

Lunita Farm delivers fresh fruits and vegetables weekly as a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture)…read moreand also sells produce at the Sunday farmers' market in Glen Ellen. I started receiving a weekly share from Lunita Farm last summer and I've never tasted better carrots. Throughout the season, I also got really tasty tomatoes, eggplants, padrone peppers, figs, melons, and beets, to name a few. In the winter, we get every kind of leafy green imaginable, as well as a turnips, winter squash, and storage onions. This spring has so far yielded a beautiful crop of fava beans (a new favorite of mine) and some amazing strawberries. Yum! Each share is packed with a wonderful variety of delicious veggies (some familiar, some new) and a news letter with updates from the farm, a recipe, and instructions on how to prepare some of the less common produce. Everything is grown organically here in Sonoma, although the farm is not certified organic. As I've said, this is some of the best produce I've ever tasted, and it's obvious that the vegetables are tended to with care. Plus, it's a wonderful challenge to cook with whatever is in the share each week, and it's fun to see the contents of the share (and my menus) change with the seasons. I can't recommend Lunita Farm highly enough.
