We love shopping Purity Market in Fort Bragg. They have the best quality meat, vegetables and fruit.

While in no way perfect, Purity Market Fort Bragg is super good and pleasant to shop. Great vegetable selection, if you don't require all organic. Even a butcher, and high quality Clover dairy products. The variety for a small market is outstanding, and the location in the heart of town across from the post office makes it simple to get in and out. I know some complain that the checkers are not always friendly - but I have been a small market checker, and there's no end to the craziness that happens at the registers, the shoplifting they see etc., and its just not realistic to always greet with a sincere smile. But Phil and the people that own Purity do care about this community, and it is an asset to the town. read more

My very first pair of sunglasses were purchased here. I was probably around four and it was smack middle of summer and we were on our yearly family vacation. My mom and drove here to pick up camping supplies and somehow I slipped away and ended up in front of this cheesy Polaroid sunglasses display. The first pair I picked up was a white rimmed pair with green lenses. They were not the most masculine pair and were probably ladies glasses, but I was four ok? My mom found me wearing the glasses and I asked her she could buy them for me. She was such a sucker and caved. We headed to the cash register and paid with me in tow proudly sporting my ladies sunglasses. My mom pays but realizes she forgot a few things. At this point she may have been a little embarrassed to be seen with me and handed me 2 dollars and told me not to move and to stay in front of the store. It was July and for some reason they had a little box full of Christmas ornaments. I found a purple bell with painted on gold glitter and decided to buy for my Mom and give it to her at Christmas. I was so excited, and when she finally came back with the rest of our supplies she noticed my hands were behind my back. I immediately at this point blurted out that I bought her a Christmas present but that she wouldn't be getting it until Christmas! Well that didn't last long, by the time we got back into the car I just couldn't wait any longer and handed her my present. Ever since that day, I have made it a tradition to buy (or make as I did a few times during elementary school) a Christmas ornament. As I got older and started to travel a bit I would make it a point to hunt one down and have picked up ornaments from all across the country and around the world. My mom has since passed away and she never got to hang the last ornament I ever got her. She at least got to see and hold it. I now have it and it has been on my last two Christmas trees. Purity reminds me of a supermarket you would find in a small town in Alabama. This is one throwback of a store and since the days of my childhood visits has remained unchanged. If you find yourself in the North Coast and camping in nearby Russian Gulch or MacKerricher State Parks this is the perfect place to stock up on all your camping needs. And those white rimmed sunglasses? They are still around! read more

Could this be one of the survivors of the Purity Grocery chain that thrived in the 50s? They had distinctive Quonset Hut shaped buildings and wood floors. I found this relic on the back streets of Ft Bragg. How it can survive in a Safeway town amazes me yet it was well stocked and had lower produce prices than the big S. Now that I know Purity is here it will be my first stop and I'll only go to Safeway for what I can't find here. Long live independent grocery stores. read more

Love it! it is better then Trader Joes... Words cannot describe the throwback to the way a market was and should be! Every vacation I go there for camping supplies and my annual Cherry Soda fix. Best market on the north coast!!!!! read more

Best deals on produce in Fort Bragg. Fresh and inexpensive fruits and vegetables. Not a huge selection, but quite adequate. The rest of the store is so expensive I literally never even go down those aisles any longer. I have been patronizing this store for decades and have not had a negative experience...until last week. I had accidentally left a non-perishable item I had purchased behind about 4-5 weeks prior(my bad) and realized my mistake later that day, so I called them and explained my goof-up so that my item could be set aside for me to pick up. I went in the following day with my receipt, but nobody there was informed about it and could not help me. Tried again later that week, the cashier went out of her way to assist me (bless her), but she could not find any note of the incident and told me to talk with management the following morning. OK, fair enough, I thought. Well, I ended up having transportation issues for the following 4 weeks and this store is out of my way, so I let it slide. A few weeks later I have wheels again, yay! I happen to stop at Purity for a candy bar, find that I still have my receipt for the forgotten item and decide to inquire if it is still possible to pick up my item, can't hurt to try, right? WRONG!!! The (short red-headed owner, manager?) loudly chewed me out in front of everyone, acting like I was trying to scam the store for free goods! She could have just said "no" and I would have understood, but instead she totally embarrassed and humiliated me in front of everyone there. Keep the money, lady, but don't make a scene, 'K? Weird!!! The manager is VERY rude. I made a small purchase today, using cash and a snap ebt card. Knowing the price of the item I was going to pay cash (2.45)for I set it down on the counter, also preparing to slide my card. She told me not to do that, that she would have put that towards my purchase and that i needed to swipe my card first. I told her "I know, I was just getting the cash ready for you". There's NO WAY that my purchase would be 2.45 or less. I bought a 5 dollar can of whipped cream! She tells me "I can see we are going nowhere with this conversation" Like I was an idiot... I looked at her in shock and said "I understand what you are saying though." Obviously she was the confused one here. She continues with her rudeness and I grab my bag. As I'm leaving she YELLS out to me, "You don't need to be a bit*h about it!" Ok. I was irritated, who wouldn't be? In my two minutes at that register she made me feel like I was a bother shopping at her store, treated me like I was stupid and embarrassed me in front of the person I was with and the people in line behind me. I will NEVER shop here again, Even if it is an extra drive or walk to the next store. Even if she was having a bad day, COME ON LADY, I didn't deserve that. You should rethink the way you do business. I cannot believe people would do business this way! read more

Purity is a nice tucked away grocery store. It has a great selection of goods, and surprisingly large selection of wines. It has great deals on localised things like meats and veggies, but going there for mass produced goods is a bit expensive. For example my last trip I picked up a head of iceberg lettuce for $1.50 and a pound of hamburger for $3.90, but then forked over $3.00 for a box of Kraft Dinner for my son, a product I could get at safeway for $1.50 off sale. So you have to be a smart shopper here, but here combined with safeway would make you a shopping expert. The store is decently organised and has a local charm to it that places like safeway doesn't have, and harvest has too much of. The staff is nice enough, but they change so frequently that getting any info on where is what can be a bit like pulling teeth. Overall purity is a great store if you need something cheap for that special dish, be it veggies, or just a few bottles of wine. read more
