My daughter and I were staying with my mom who was frail and on hospice and she died 2 days after Mother's Day. We had a lot of stuff that we weren't ready to part with but didn't have anywhere to put it. We had to get my moms mobile home on the market, so we were basically moving completely out to have repairs and deep cleaning done and staging.. We needed her home on the market ASAP so we had to be quick. I was pleasantly surprised that they had a moving truck to use for free the day of move in. I don't know how we would have managed without it. The storage move in specials were hard to pass up. Although the price was competitive, they were not the cheapest. However, considering you get what you pay for, that's not always a bad thing. I feel my things are safe and secure and I'm not worried about break ins, bugs, mold, or anything really. Every unit has its own alarm. They are very clean and proactive on bugs. And the manager and staff are incredibly polite and genuinely helpful. I've had a few storages in this area. Granted, it's been awhile. But none have come close to this. And if you've had storages around here you know what I mean. And it's not just because we are in a dust bowl. You can't go wrong here. Please disregard my previous post. I was very angry at the time I wrote it. Should have waited to speak to Todd. It was nothing more than a misunderstanding. I thought my credit card was set up for automatic pay. Due to many instances of FRAUD while living in South Fl. my credit card with Chase protects me and did not approve auto pay. Todd is actually a very nice young man and from the first time I met him in 2014 I knew I could trust him. The place is very clean and safe. I don't have to worry about my belongings being safe, clear across the country. Not worried about dirt or dust, my complaint if for service. The 3 times I came to fortress last year were great, this time, It was a nightmare. First off I was charged $167.33 2x on my bank account when I only bought 1 truck. I contacted fortress and they claimed they had no record of it and they only charged once. This was an inconvenience because when you are moving, you need all of the funds you can get . Second Todd assured me there were 12 furniture pads, and charged me as such, but only brought me 9, and said he could discount it but only $1, then why did I just get charged $25 for missing furniture pads !? Lastly I selected the location of drop off , dropped off at this location, and still got charged $40 for wrong location drop off. Honestly, I would rather carry my whole apt on my back before I use this place again. read more

Todd is excellent and will do whatever he can to help you! We rented a uhaul that was supposed to be picked up at another location but that location was closed. Fortress staff helped us call uhaul and checked neighboring cities for other trucks and stayed on the line through multiple customer service reps. They were apologetic even though it was not their fault at all, and tried to help us get a refund or discount from Uhauls corporate office. Meanwhile, they were interviewing a possible employee and handling storage customers with respect, courtesy and promptness. We had a storage unit here a few yrs ago and never had any problems. This is a great place to store your stuff. We had our entire household in storage for 3 months there. We had no problems when we came back to move out. Everything was dry and clean as we left it. This place is very secure. The manager lives on site. The customer service is great. We even got the unused portion of the last months rent back ! I highly recommend Fortress-Secure. read more

Awful! Dust & dirt all over everything and when I complained that dirt & dust even got into the washer & dryer I was storing there, the manager only shrugged, pointed out the doors weren't weather-proofed at the top & basically said it wasn't his problem. ICK!!! read more

The last storage place I used was 10 years ago. The guy that rented the space to me was a cliche 'used car salesman.' We only stored our stuff there a couple months. During that time, it was broken in to, and $1000 in tools were stolen. Management didn't care, and the 'insurance' policy they sold me was worthless. Contrast that to my experience with Fortress. Each unit is alarmed for theft and fire. The code you put into the box that opens the front gate also disarms and rearms the alarm on your unit. That alone is worth a good deal. Beyond that, the manager is a pleasure to do business with. He was friendly and up front with everything about the place. When I moved in - around August or September, 2014, he mentioned that I should cover all my stuff because of the dust. Local farms and wind in Santa Maria create dust for the entire town that will mess things up if they're not covered properly. I also received a letter in the mail from them around October saying that they've been trying to reduce the amount of dust by cleaning the asphalt around the complex, but that I should make sure my stuff is covered regardless. I read the other review that complained about the dust. Everyone has their own experience, I guess, but my experience on the dust issue was quite positive. Everything I stored in the unit is either in plastic boxes, or can get washed off if it gets dirty (ladder, tools, etc). In all, I can't speak highly enough about the place. The alarm is great peace of mind. Management is easy to deal with. The space fits my needs perfectly. It is also easy to access. Even the public restroom they have is clean. If I have a complaint its that I can never remember which unit is mine - the units are lined up in rows with rollup doors facing each street. Each building is a letter (mine is "F"). Sometimes, I turn down the wrong street and end up trying to open an E-letter space. (The units opposite mine are "G") Maybe it would help if they had big letters on each building. That, or I just need to upgrade my memory. read more
