I'm writing this with a heavy heart and a real pit in my stomach…read more We booked the 2-hour, 45-minute trail ride for three people and were genuinely excited about the beach experience. Unfortunately, what we witnessed left us deeply uncomfortable. As we walked out to the horses, one mare immediately stood out. She looked extremely thin, tired, and very old. It was hard to ignore. As we looked around more closely, we realized that all of the horses -- about 14 of them -- were already fully saddled and appeared not to have been brushed beforehand. I understand horses live outdoors and get dirty, but this was not normal dust or a bit of mud. Their coats were caked with dried mud and what looked like urine stains. Their fur felt stiff and crusted over. You couldn't even comfortably pet them. My friend was assigned the older mare. When she tried to gently pet her neck, the horse pinned her ears back in a way that suggested discomfort or pain. It didn't feel like a "don't touch me" moment -- it felt like a horse that was worn down. The day was warm -- in the 80s -- and there were long stretches without much breeze. We were sweating, and so were the horses. When we returned from the ride, the horses were tied back up with sweat. We saw no water buckets, no hay in the area where they were tied, and none were offered water while we were there. After nearly three hours in the heat carrying riders, they were left standing there unattended while the guide walked back to the hut and sat down with the other guides. For context, both my friend and I own horses and have cared for many horses over the years. We understand what normal barn conditions look like and what it means to care for working animals. This isn't a casual observation from someone unfamiliar -- it comes from hands-on experience feeding, grooming, riding, and tending to horses properly. What we saw did not reflect attentive daily care. For a $250 experience, this wasn't about expecting luxury. It was about expecting humane, knowledgeable care for the animals doing the work. We left feeling sick, unsettled, and genuinely concerned for the well-being of that older mare wishing we could take her home with us. You need to do better. These horses deserve attentive grooming, proper hydration, and not just to be used ride after ride without visible attention to their comfort and health.

After a lot of research I picked Integrity Stables and I'm so glad I did! Horses are well loved and cared for, the ride was very private (just us and our guide), the scenes were beautiful, and our trail guide (I'm blanking on his name he was young--maybe it was Luke?) was super knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Would recommend to anyone (experienced horse person or not) and definitely plan on going back next time I'm in San Diego! While it is a little drive from San Diego (45 min - 1hr), the little town of Julian was the perfect place for us to stop afterwards for lunch before we made the drive back!

The guide Colt was the nicest person with a great sense of humor and customer service. He explained everything about the horses, taught the basics of riding, gave the history of the gold mines on the property and the mountain toll roads taken by the horses. All around it was great. Tess the horse was so gentle and gave a ride never to forget. Thank you all at Integrity Stables we look forward to coming back soon. Blessings to you, your family and all your beautiful horses that you care for so much.

They got a new sign, watered the grass and addressed a few other "first impression" things so it looks prettier from the street. They haven't bothered to fix important things like replacing the old corroded connections that spontaneously break off of the automatic waterers, fixing broken welds in corrals or other sharp edges, or clean up the areas people actually need to use. Also: No manager. No night checks. No fly control. No manure removal and a pile the size of a small mountain that regularly catches FIRE in hot weather. No dust control and major dust issues/no bagged shavings - sawdust. Piles of junk everywhere. Gross, leaning porta-potties. Giant holes in the corrals and horses stand in inches of mud after a rain. Scary barn wiring (cobweb covered exposed wires, extension cords everywhere, noises coming from breaker box). A tree fell on a corral and killed a horse; there are still giant tree limbs over corrals. No feeding schedule - odd times and odd amounts, and sometimes forgotten or skipped. People get kicked out if they complain. It's sad because the property has great potential, but for the same price (or less) you can do way better in East County.

Nestled between two rolling hills and an occasional running creek, there's plenty of areas to walk , graze and ride your horse. The owner lives on the property and is available to help or assist w/ any issues that may arise. She is kind, caring and very compassionate. Has saved many of her clients horses by being so knowledgeable and observant. Would I recommend this facility...... 100% I have been there now for 8 yrs. I was originally only going to be here for a couple of yrs. Now I can't imagine boarding anywhere else.
