    Dinner chow formation.

Stayed on ordnance Island for ait training, 91B, and it was no where near as bad as people said it would be. The drill seargants were helpful and actually treated you like a human half the time. The room I stayed in was comfortable, clean, and had a great bathroom. The defac was horrible but it had these little pies that were pretty good. The schooling was better than any college I've been to, I've never been to college, and the instructors definitely knew what they were talking about. I would definitely come train here again.

It is nice of Fort Lee to have a post office right next to the small PX. I was in AIT and needed to…read moremail home some clothes that I never used. And so for my last three weekends at Fort Lee, I paid separate visits to this post office to package my clothing home and ship it to Washington. On all three occasions, the result was success, although I did pay more than I would have liked to. This place is fairly small and seemingly always busy, yet the line appears to move at a rapid pace even without only two or so people staffed at the counter. There is a table in the back where you can set your box down as you assemble it. If you're lucky, maybe somebody before you has already purchased tape and left it on the table for you to use for free. Otherwise, you'd have to pay the $3.99 or whatever it is to buy a roll of tape that you'll probably only ever use once. Reo is a nice guy who works there; he says he's a former Marine and he asks customers the question "What's the difference between Army tanks and Marine tanks?" The answer is "Army tanks have backup lights," and it supposedly means that the Army tanks are retreating. I don't get it, but he's a cool dude who taught me that ballpoint pens are great for tearing apart tape. He also told me weird things like making the return address some location close to the shipping address so that it at least has a backup location to go to in case the package is shipped back and I'm already gone from Fort Lee. Overall, it's just your average post office on a military installation.

The employees here are always incredibly friendly and helpful but if you need to mail or pick up a…read morepackage on a Saturday, get here early because they don't stay open until 1:00pm as their hours clearly state. They close whenever apparently. When I showed up three other people came to mail items and the doors were locked, lights out at 12:20. Why not just change the posted hours?

I visited the eastern front of the Petersburg National Battlefield last month while traveling back…read morefrom a Toyota dealership in the area. The battlefield has several sites in the Petersburg Virginia area including a western front, union and confederate forces encampment sites, remains of makeshift forts, storage depots and landing sites. The battlefield as a whole encompasses many miles in a circular pattern and you can either do a guided or self guided tour. It is well marked and mapped. The site as a whole was the longest siege of the American Civil War. Union forces began the siege in 1864 and it lasted nine months with many battles that resulted in victories for both sides. Petersburg VA at the time was a major hub for Robert E Lee's army with extensive rail lines and supply depots. It was also pivotal in the defense of Richmond which was the Confederate capital during the war. The eastern front battlefield is well preserved and also serves as a park which is managed by the National Park Service. There are walking and hiking trails as well as bike lanes. There is parking at each of the eight sites on the eastern front. Each site is well maintained and marked and it is quite educational. You could spend a few hours here exploring. Just a note, bring bug spray with tick repellent. Several of the sites I had to swipe a tick off my legs. It was a bit wet and it was very humid so the bugs were out in force. Overall it was a great experience. On the next visit I'll check out the western front which is roughly eight miles away on the other side of town.

This park is often in the shadow of others, but had long and bloody trench warfare. The history and earthworks are simply incredible! Definitely read about it and look up closure times before coming. (8pm during the summer and sunset/sunrise throughout the year) 33-odd miles of trails, good to recreate and the tour road is perfect for cycling/running.
