Conveniently located right off the freeway and a large parking lot, plus some places to eat right next door. There is a giant buffalo bill statue out front that you can see right from the freeway from a distance. The trading post has snacks, drinks, jewelry, souvenirs, memorabilia, and all kinds of things to buy. You can breeze through it in like 5 minutes or you can spend some time since there are several items to choose from. They even have some displays set up with some interesting things, like a replica of a 2 headed calf that was born nearby years ago. We were there in July when it was blazing hot and humid, so we skipped the tour of the fort out back that you can go on. If you need to take a break and or want to get some souvenirs you should stop in. read more

Super fun and kitschy place along I-80 in Nebraska. We pulled off the interstate because we saw there were several restaurants off that exit, and it was dinner time. We ended up eating at Whiskey Creek right next door, and after dinner we walked over to check the trading post out. It's so fun and inviting with its fort-facade, giant statue in the parking lot, wagons and cannons, how could we NOT? My guy enjoyed the museum exhibits at the back of the store, and I enjoyed browsing the goods for sale. Purchased several small items including the prerequisite post cards of the area and some pretty and tasty candy rocks. I also found, much to my delight, a pug-dog car decal. And they have an excellent selection of really beautiful sterling and gemstone Native American-made jewelry. I got a gorgeous "rainbow peridot quartz" ring - I've never seen anything else quite like it anywhere! My attached photo does it no justice, but the stone looks blue from some angles, green from others. Exquisite! Multiple sales associates ignored me as I lingered at the jewelry counter looking, but then a very tall young man came over to help me. He was personable, sweet and attentive, so it's all good. In my 40+ years of life, this was my first time ever driving across the center of the country, so I can't say when or even if I'll be back that way again. But if I ever am, I will definitely stop for another visit. read more

I spotted this fort while driving along the highway and was instantly drawn in by the giant version of Buffalo Bill in the parking lot. My Dad and I stopped to take a look inside and it's a cute little souvenir shop/exhibit. The highlight of our visit was the two headed cow, the "Fort Cody Jail" in the back of the store, and the free show that happens every 30 minutes. I got two postcard as a reminder. It's worth a stop if you're driving along, even if the outside says it's a "tourist trap". ;) read more

Came in today with a disabled person ( my dad) who had his service dog with him. Dog had his vest on and leash said service dog. Dog was doing his job walking beside dad. Lady came up and told him that he had to carry the dog. Dad is elderly and disabled. The man told him that he couldn't have the dog in the store. Dad told him that he was a service dog and had the right to be in the store. Man said I don't care you have to leave. So don't go there if you are disabled the obviously have not heard of ADA laws. read more

I spotted this while just driving down I-80 a few years back, and HAD to stop and see what it was all about! Since then, I always stop here when I'm driving out west - I can't say no! This store is so fun. They have knick knacks and silly items. They have surprisingly beautiful jewlery (I've gotten myself a few things here). They even sell a good selection of jams, bbq sauces, and salsas in one section. They have a little museum in the back, which can be fun to check out. It's really just a cute little tourist shop, but it's a incredible amount of fun! I've never enjoyed a gift store more. read more

Huge selection!!!!!!!!! The workers were friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed the animal statues outside. Some of the products had funny names: Buffalo Boogers, etc. Update: Hi Leigh, thanks for the reply. I would have loved to give another star and because of your nice reply I was tempted. The ONLY reason I didn't originally was because when we came in 15 minutes before closing, the lady at the counter thought it was necessary to point it out that they were closing 'in a minute'. (We already knew that, but wanted to take a quick look around). Kind of bad business in my opinion. The opposite of welcoming. This place is a great visit for tourist or even locals. It's fun to explore all the odd offering that make the place a one of a kind. Even as a local I enjoy taking my son there to find something new to enjoy, like gifts, toys, candy, snacks... They have a great live music scene during the summer every Thursday where they have a local band or musician play and a tracing group. read more

This review may not be popular. We bought one item here because I promised my son we would get it before seeing several items with a confederate flag. We were going to buy several other items, but put them back after seeing this. I shared with the employee at the store why we didn't buy more things. He was receptive, which I appreciated. He also shared his view that this is just part of history. I can respect the difference of opinion, yet for many this symbolizes slavery, oppression, and the dehumanization of Black people. I was a bit more frustrated when he stated "I'm sorry YOU were offended by that" (emphasis mine). This is similar to saying, "I'm sorry you were offended when I called you a derogatory name." There is a reason that the confederate flag is offensive to many people. Had he said, "I respectfully disagree and we are going to continue to sell the item" I would have more respect for the statement than saying, "I'm sorry YOU were offended." I strongly support Fort Cody Trading Posts right to sell items such as this. At the same time, as a consumer I have the right to make informed decisions about where I am going to spend my money. We drive by here often and would like to stop by with our children, but will not as long as items with the confederate flag are sold here. read more

This is a fun place for visitors to our area. But for locals, it is a great place to get Nebraska made food and beautiful Indian jewelry for gifts or for yourself. I recommend the Huckleberry honey. This place is the best trading post i have ever been to. And the only one if you don't count Circle K. The facade is of an old timey fort smack dab in the middle of nowhere. En route from Omaha to Denver, my buddy and i stopped in for some provisions. They have a mini museum of western artifacts and extensive tributes to Buffalo Bill Cody. I guess he was the first quarterback for the Bills or something. Fun facts about western Nebraska: 1.the radio has nothing but live cattle auctions or country music on all of its three channels. 2.If you see a smoke signal ahead, it isn't native americans, your radiator is boiling over, dummy. 3.Buffalo jerky comes in three flavors. Western, spicy and spicy western. Back to the fort. If you need turquoise native jewelry, bust out the debit card,dude. You need a bolo tie for that power lunch in Denver? Yours. Need traveling jams? Try "Hank Williams greatest Drinks"... I mean "Hits". I bought a little stuffed animal buffalo and named him Kody. I still have him some 7 years on and wuv him vewy much. read more

This is a great place to stop while on the road. It's a combination gift shop and museum commemorating Buffalo Bill Cody and his Wild West Show. The store features an impressive miniature mechanical display of the circus that runs every half hour. Out back there is a giant "muffler man indian," good for a photo op. There are also some cool relics of cowboy gear from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. A fun place to browse. read more

Imagine William "Buffalo Bill" Cody. Now imagine, if you will, the inside of a trailer home and it's contents. This, ladies and gentlemen, is Fort Cody Trading Post. When you enter the parking lot, you're greeted with a somewhat faithful representation of a "old tyme" fort. As you walk to the front door, you look up and see the legs of a pioneer dangling off the edge, an arrow lodged squarely in his ball sack. This is code for "you're going to get you mind blown once you walk through the door." Upon entering the "fort", you are greeted with the smell of cedar and Chinese plastic. These odors waft from the wooden decor and bric-a-brac combined with the cheap fake knives, guns and toys in transparent packaging. Have you ever wanted to destroy legal tender? Fort Cody Trading Post will enable that fantasy. Stick a penny in the coin crusher machine and out comes a memento that documents your visit. Do you like miniature scenes of Manifest Destiny? BOOM! They have them under glass. Want to dress like an injun? They have that stuff, too. Costumes, hatchets, bow and arrows and big feathery headdresses. Want a t-shirt that says "North Platte"? They've cornered the market on those. There is so much junk in this joint you'll think Wall Drug, South Dakota gypped you. They even have switchblade combs. Did you see that? SWITCHBLADE COMBS, PEOPLE. Wall Drug won't even touch that. In conclusion, GET THERE ASAP. I would have given them five stars, but they don't have a strip joint adjacent to the property which is a damned shame. read more

This is the pièce de résistance in kitsch Americana - and we never miss it!! The shop offers an expected array of touristy goodness, but it's the miniature model of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show that's the real star of the place - more than 20,000 tiny hand-carved figures that move and dance and parade on the quarter hour. Fort Cody Trading Post is a neat tourist attraction along I-80 in North Platte, Nebraska. They have a really neat gift shop and a Buffalo Bill museum with free admission. Sure, the museum part is something out of the last century but it's still really neat to see. The stuff in the gift shop is a bit higher priced but it's worth it if it keeps this place open for future generations. read more

They have a little show in the back of the store and have some artifacts, like a two headed cow and a lot of information Buffalo Bill Cody. There are various gag gifts, shirts and sweatshirts, wallets, Indian gifts (dream catchers, flutes, etc.), candy, wooden pistols and sling shots, and plenty of memorabilia. There is also a whole collection of vintage magazines you can by dating back to 1947 for 7.99 a piece. It was a cool place to stop. I was hoping they had something with the Corn Huskers on it, but all I could find was a wallet. You can take a picture with giant bear or cannon outside and is a good place to get out a stretch or get a souvenir for someone. read more
