We pop in every month or so for my son to browse all the cool bikes and accessories. The owners have been friendly each time and helpful with our questions. Admittedly, we had a couple rough interactions many years ago like I'm seeing are in other past reviews, but for a good while we have consistently had nothing but pleasant interactions here and we really enjoy coming into their shop! So we hope anyone with more negative reviews will give them another shot. We recently brought in my son's little GT bmx bike that needed something with the pedals fixed. (Important to note: We live here on the coast and have had such a small space with no garage, so this bike has spent several years out in the coastal elements. Therefore to sum it up best, its appearance would fit right in at a junkyard. Despite its appearance, our son still gets so much enjoyment out of this bike.) The owner at Fort Bragg Cyclery was kind, tactful and polite despite the sight he was seeing looking at this thing. He determined what level of "fixed" we were going for considering the poor-overall condition, and got the work done pretty quick and for a good price! The rust-bucket bmx bike lives on thanks to Fort Bragg Cyclery, and it continues to be enjoyed often! (These days we now have a nice little shed set up for our kids to store their newer mountain bikes which they're taking fantastic care of .) read more

These people actually make customers cry with how rude and dismissive they are. Perhaps it would be different if they were making more money off of someone, but maybe not. They seem mean to the bone. They hang up on people. They forget what they've told you then yell at you like you never had a conversation. It's actually very bizarre. The town is great and most shop owners are wonderful, but I do NOT recommend putting yourself through dealing with this people. It's not worth it. read more

I met Marc and Tina the way hundreds of others have met them. I was on a long bike tour and my bike had issues that needed the attention of a professional. Like other reviewers, I was (at first) taken aback by the brusk communication I received. I felt like I walked right into an Elizabeth Strout novel. As I waited for Marc to finish working on a bike, I figured it out. If Tina and Marc would have greeted me with a smile and asked me about my bike tour, I would have talked their ears off. I would have told Marc all about my new Schwalbe tires with their $40.00 tubes etc. etc. Long distance bike tourists can be a lonely sort. When treated with any kindness and curiosity, we can talk for hours about the highs and lows of our trip. Marc & Tina would not get ANY work done. So, as Marc ripped my $40.00 tube out of my 100.00 tire and chucked it in the bin to replace it with a trusty butyl tube, I felt nothing but respect. I was soon on my way. Other customers were being served and served well. Just like the infamous soup guy in NY and Bob of Bob's Well Bred in Los Alamos, Marc and Tina are great at what they do. Don't come here. I have worked in customer service for many years in management. The woman was one of the rudest B I have ever spoken to. Initially, I thought it was in my head but then read the other reviews. My husband was willing to drop 3k there today and I said F that and F them. Don't ever think you are above any of us. No need to ever walk into this shop. I recommend you go to Dave's In Ukiah where the respect and attention you get is the polar opposite of this place. I had to see for myself if someone was going to talk down at me and turn their back On me for no reason other than a question about the local bike path. My friend and I were riding from Canada to Mexico and I had a stem bolt fall out and get lost and my friend's front brake pad were almost to the metal. Tina, the owner, was so helpful to us. She let me help her search for a bolt that would fit my stem, from her drawer of various bolts. We found one and she gave it to me, and leant me an allen key to install it. My friend was able to find the right brake pads and I installed them in the area outside of the shop. We signed her traveler visitor's log and she gave us each a tire repair kit. Great service, versus the shop in Santa Cruz (Epicenter Cycling) that completely took advantage of my friend who's tire was unrepairable after running over a nail. They charged him $166 for a GP5000 tire, sealant and installation!! read more

I went into Fort Bragg Cyclery to purchase a $1,000+ mountain bike. I asked to take it for test drive on the nearby streets (just like I have done for all of the other bicycles I've purchased from various Northern California bike stores for the last 40 years). I was told by the wife/proprietor of the Fort Bragg Cyclery that I could only ride the bike in their small parking lot--and under her direct supervision. I responded by offering to leave my driver's license during my test drive. To this, the wife/proprietor stated, "I'm not going to let you take the bike for a real test ride because you'll get the tires dusty. If you don't like our policy, then FINE, don't buy the bike". What kind of bike store is this? Now I realize why I never see any customers inside. read more

Went in to ask about a stuck saddle bolt, was told she had no idea how to fix. C'mon! That's probably the most common problem! Went to the off road shop, Brian fixed it in 2 minutes, replaced bolt, free. Told me he bought a brand new bike from them, two days later Went in for a derailleur adjustment, they refused to do it. One star is being generous. I'm a local, and have never heard another local say anything good about this shop. read more

If your riding or racing the pacific coast bike route and find yourself in need of help and figure great there is a bike shop in Fort Bragg Just go in and hold your breath and buy your tubes or get what you need. My boyfriend and I went in looking for a brake for a bmx bike brake. I do know they sell mostly mountain bikes but they do display bmx bikes in the window and one bike had the exact brake set up we needed. When we asked if they had any brake sets for bmx bikes the woman working at the front counter looked at us like we were stupid and said no. We thanked her for her time and left immediately. Unless your looking for a mountain bike don't go here. Pretty rude and seemed very unwilling to help out. read more

I never have quite understood why a pair of people who so obviously have disdain for the majority of people they meet would choose to do a job that requires customer service. Their is something like anger oozing out of every interaction. I bought a tube at the shop and the stem failed after the first ride out. I brought it in and Marc told me right away after my explanation that what had happened is that I put a new hole in the new tube. He asked me if I had left the retainer ring on the inside, I told him I didn't. So with no discussion he took my rim, installed a new tube and then charged me for the new tube, no credit for the faulty one. I guess I should consider myself a lucky guy. read more

Went to get my kid a chain for his bmx and asked the worker there what size chain I needed with no response she tossed a chain on the counter I asked if it would be the right length for the bike I had witch I brought with me and she had no clue she said. And I couldn't check the length and they don't size chains ( don't size chains at a bike shop?) I already had the old chain‍ this is crazy to me and the lady working the was rude as can be! I'm a Mendocino local. This is about my recent, 1st trip into the shop. Found the owner to be extremely rude. Barking directives at me from behind the service counter. It was easy to rent a bike here. I did have some problems with the gears on my bike but it didn't affect my ride too much. You can ride out the back of the shop and cruise along the coast line either north or south. The rental is a minimum of 3 hours. You can do 3 hours or all day. 3 hours was perfect for us. read more

Pleasantly surprised! Got a rear flat & then chain completely broke while on Gravel Pit ride this morn. Trailered bike to shop to get fixed as a walk in. Had it back within an hour for under $40! Today I went into Fort Bragg Cyclery looking to fix my bike. I casually asked the owner a question about Jackson Demonstration Forest (a popular mountain biking area locals are trying to save from deforestation) and he rudely responded "It would help if I knew what we were talking about." After explaining, he did not bother to answer and I'm sure he knew exactly what I was talking about - he completely ignored me and I was in complete shock. I decided to leave with my bike unrepaired. A local vendor mentioned that most locals hate the shop and that I was "lucky" to not have been treated worse. I visited the shop last summer and his wife would not give me the time of day unless I purchased something. She would not even let us sit on a bike to test it. Go to Catch a Canoe and Bicycle Too. Rudest service I've ever encountered at a bike shop--and that's saying a lot. The shop attendant wouldn't even let me finish a question without trying to mansplain and talk down to me. At one point, I had to just point blank ask him to let me finish a sentence. On top of that, they have very little selection and it's overpriced. You're better off ordering your parts from the Internet. At least there, you don't get treated like an idiot. read more

We purchased 2 three wheel bikes from FB Cyclery last year. Mark delivered the bikes to Little River and we've enjoyed riding them. I've had a problem using the twist gear shifter and I phoned the store to follow up on a call with Mark who said it was possible to change out the shifter. The alternative would be to move it to the other handlebar. I called back to ask a follow up question about the alternative shifter and got Tina on the phone. She told me they didn't have the alternative click shifter in stock, and couldn't get them. But --- I was free to try to get one. I asked what exactly that shifter was called, and could she describe it so I could try to find it. She became hostile and hung up on me. When I phoned back she told me I had abused her and hung up on me again. I am SO sorry we bought our bikes at that shop ---- We're now looking for a local bike mechanic to help us out ---- and we've never posted a Yelp review before---but the level of bizarre rudeness can't go without a comment. If you have any other option --- stay clear of these folks. They do not deserve your business. read more

We hadn't biked in many many years, but friends had biked along the ocean and we envied them, so we headed up to Fort Bragg Cyclery from Point Arena. We were helped into bike helmets and onto appropriate bikes and given helpful instructions on how to change gears and where to head by the owner. She showed us how to use the new-to-us gears, made sure our seats were properly adjusted and warned us not to grab for the front wheel brakes first -- all advice we needed 30 years after our last bike rides. As a result, we had a lovely 1.5 hour ride by the ocean and are planning future trips on bikes we'll rent from Fort Bragg Cyclery. read more
