Nobody sees Savannah without seeing Forsyth Park. It's massive, sporting several different areas between the fountain, the tree-covered walkways, and the large open fields of grass. On previous visits to Savannah, we have had a wonderful time just walking around and taking in the atmosphere. On our most recent visit there was unfortunately a children's book festival covering pretty much the entire park, which packed it with massive crowds and threw a monkey wrench into our plans to get some good photos of us together during our last trip before we get married. So that was some unfortunate timing, but we were still happy to see the park again even if it was amidst throngs of screaming children and irritated parents and costumed storybook characters. read more

Pretty awesome park. In an area/city/historic area with SO MANY SQUARES, this is like the Central Park. I've read that this is the end of the Savannah Rock n' Roll Marathon. Sounds very befitting. I'm trying to run in every state, but if I came here I'd probably do a smaller race so I could enjoy the area. Forsyth Park is a lovely place to stroll with a loved one, picnic with friends, Saturday w/ family, or possibly even catch an event. I loved the overhanging trees that are EVERYWHERE! Do check out the fountain (see photo). Everybody who comes to this park goes here, and for good reason. I had never been to this area of the South before, so this was a very pleasant fountain in a nice little park. This would also be a nice place to walk off the food you'll probably eat in the many various eateries in the area. read more

Got engaged here! It was really decorated nice in the winter. During the summer an excellent place to walk and bring dogs

A beautiful historic park full of friendly college kids walking their dogs, or just being kids, and polite homeless derelicts. This is Savannah after all! Besides the obvious reason most people come down to Savannah (ahem... Hollywood movie), this park is a beautiful place in itself. Regardless of the reason for tourism, it's a must see and experience. From the beautiful old homes, to its wonderful arrangement of old trees, what's not to love about this place?? read more

Such a beautiful park. Everything about this place is amazing. I really wish I lived near a park like this. The trees, the people, the fountain, the children's play area just everything about this place is simply beautiful. Just a peaceful place to relax and think, read a book, take photos, jog or simply sit back and enjoy your surroundings. They have a large lawn where people can read a book or have a picnic, whatever you feel like doing. They even have a cafe inside the park. There's so much charm in Savannah and this park is just one of the many reasons to check out Savannah. Had such a nice time exploring this park. read more

If you are in Savannah, you need to visit this park! It's in one of the historic squares and it's surrounded by beautiful, historic homes. The fountain in the middle of the park is truly beautiful. There are also playgrounds for children up to age 12. On Saturday mornings, you can visit the local farmers market (near the tennis courts). Even on a hot day, there are lots of tall trees along the walking path to provide plenty of shade. So pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic with some cool drinks! read more

Super cute park! We happened to be coming through as there was a market going on. I love a good weekend marker and the weather was phenomenal. Definitely a gorgeous park to walk though a visit. read more

Heard about this park and wanted to come check it out. Great weather in Savannah and I guess I had just missed the Farmer's Market. Very crowded Saturday and the park was a little bit smaller than I thought it would be. Some nice looking trails, but then also some homeless people and it didn't seem extremely clean. Still I had a nice walk and checked out the monuments and a very beautiful fountain. Overall I think a pretty nice place, but could be a little nicer. Maybe I'll try to come on a different day and see if I have a different experience. read more

Southern hospitality and honest humanity has been restored with my visit to this beautiful park. We spent most of day at this park, having set up a picnic spot in the grass. After eating, my 9 y/o daughter and I strolled amongst the path of venders selling their goods on a beautiful Saturday late morning. She had in her pocket, a tiny wallet with $130 in cash she had saved; mostly helped by her recent birthday, and loving relatives. At the end of the row, we stopped at a vendor selling ice cream bars. The cookies and cream was a great choice. We slowly walked back to our picnic spot while she enjoyed her ice cream bar. When we returned to our picnic blanket, she finished her delicious ice cream bar. However, her enjoyment was devastated with the discovery of her empty pocket; she had lost her wallet. We retraced our steps and circled all the way back to our picnic blanket without finding the wallet. With very low expectations, we thought it wouldn't hurt to stop at the information booth where they exchange tokens. The wallet, and the money inside, was there! A very honest and kind individual apparently found it, and turned it in. Thank you Georgia, for your kind Southern Hospitality! read more

Gorgeous well maintained park. This is Savannah in all her languid splendor. Broad spacious walkways encourage strolling, lined with steel magnolias, hydrangeas, mature trees, colorful variety of plants and flowers, lending their fragrance to the air. And the white ornate water fountain in the center is quite a highlight. Savanna is known for its many parks with benches encouraging you to take a leisurely approach to this beautiful city. On both sides of the park are gorgeous homes of Greek revival and Gothic architecture for which savannah is known. Not to be missed! read more

I enjoy how open and non-crowded this park is! It's probably the most well known in the Sav area, and for good reason! It's really nice to walk the perimeter and admire all of the beautiful homes. read more

Lets be honest, I love finding a good backdrop to take a cute picture for a social media profile, and that is really all I go to a park for. Forsyth is located right in the middle of Savannah, an easy 5 minute walk from River Street. While there isn't really much to do or see (except the giant xylophone), the grounds are beautiful. From the trees covered in moss, flowers, and fountain you can easily spend an hour just gazing at the things around you read more

Forsyth Park is the life of downtown Savannah. This park sits on 30 acres and it is beautiful year round. At the end of the park (closest to downtown Savannah) a large fountain that is a great picture prop for children, couples, and families. In the middle of the park is a large statue, restaurant (light meals), and a stage for outdoor concert activities. At the top of the park closest to (Brighter Day store) there is a tennis court, basketball court, and a parking lot. Wrapped around the park is sidewalks where you can see visitors and residents running or walking. This parking is definitely pet friendly, my dog accompanies me almost every time I go, and the water fountains have short water fountains for the dogs. If you come to Savannah please make sure you make this a spot it is a great park that is a great time for families and singles to relax, workout, enjoy a show, and even a food truck. Overall this park deserves an A+. This park is relaxing and filled with interesting people, take time to take a stroll or a picnic with friends and family, the park is pet friendly, this is a great photo-op location, and the park is large enough that you don't feel overwhelmed. Pitfalls, although there is parking it is limited. read more

Forsyth Park - Parks Near Me - Savannah, Georgia

Forsyth Park is a true treasure of Savannah, the type of park you'd expect a Southern city known for its beauty and level-minded planning to have . . . yet for years Forsyth was neglected, believe it or not! I used to live in the Forsyth Parkside building at Whitaker and Gwinnett and there's a photograph in the lobby that shows a mist-covered but dirt-barren Forsyth Park in the 1970s . . . not a blade of grass on it. Apparently, like much of the city, the park fell into neglect for years but thankfully has been saved. The lower end of the park, towards the river (Gaston Street side of the park) benefits from ample tree cover and is a lovely place to stroll about while the southern side of the park near Park Avenue boast two huge playing fields often used for soccer or ultimate Frisbee, a basketball court, and tennis courts. The northernmost end of the fields is a great place for pic-nics, as are the shady parts of the northern end of the park in good weather. There is a wide concrete path that runs the entire perimeter of the park and is great for running. This is also often used by cyclists and skaters to move from one end of the vast park to another as is the center concrete path that runs right through the middle of the park. The famed fountain is on the northern side (towards the river . . . people seem to get their north and south mixed up a lot in Savannah). The fountain is beautiful and worth seeing and photographing, but please, if you're a tourist understand that there is ALWAYS someone taking photos by the fountain if not holding a wedding or some other event there . . . meanwhile, there are people who live in Savannah attempting to walk around the fountain on their daily business. All I am trying to say is, this is a living city, not Disney Wolrd or historic Williamsburg . . . please be understanding of those who live in Savannah and don't block the through-fare around the fountain forever! The park is very safe in general during the day, but aside from its perimeter walkways mentioned above, is closed at night and thankfully there's often cops around at night making certain people are not lurking in the dark parts of the park . . . still, don't wander into it, especially the forested northern side, after dark. There have been incidents of crime. Also, when rounding the corners of the perimeter walks (say, at where Whitaker St meets Park Ave in example) be wary because cyclists often cut these sharp corners fast, and I've seen runners and kids on bikes smack right into each other before. It's not pretty . . . May is a great time to see and photograph the flowers and other botanical delights of Forsyth Park, by the way. read more

Hello fountain, hello trees, hello endless luscious grass, I want to be a bum that lives here. This park is smack in the middle of old Savannah and it couldn't be more fitting. We walked around to see a wedding being set up as well as a projector to show a movie at sunset. People were walking dogs, kids, and themselves, they just liked being here. The night was as warm as the days' dew sitting on the wild honeysuckle waiting for the fragrance of the air to take over. Yes, I felt very Blanche Devereaux the whole time I was here, it just feels Southern. If you're in the neighborhood, take a stroll or jump on a trolley, it's a very nice place to be. read more

You know what? I have given the big slug every possible opportunity for a wonderful and memorable proposal site. But once again, the man I love with the brain the size of a pea has again failed to drop on one knee and pop the question. If Mr. Wonderful was truly Mr. Wonderful, what an amazingly beautiful sight to share with someone you love. The park is incredible! And a trek through the heavy canopy of trees on the perfectly placed stone pathway brings you right to the center piece of the park. The fountain. The site can almost take your breathe away! As for the slug, he wandered over next to the rail and posed pretty like someone was asking him to. So I had to take his picture. So, I am thinking, next time would be even more fun if I left the slug home, and instead brought his dog Cugo and a Frisbee. I am sure it would every bit as romantic! read more

It's a big, beautiful public park with the fountain seen in "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." When I was visiting, a couple had their wedding ceremony right next to the fountain so a large swath was roped off. Grassy fields welcome picnics. There are 2 playgrounds, a fort, and a cafe. A volleyball net and cornhole invite people to play. It makes for a lovely setting for a stroll. Dog-friendly. There are beautiful homes along the borders. I always forget to zillow the homes for kicks to see how expensive they are! This is a must-visit in Savannah. Parking is a little difficult, but just prepared to walk. read more

When you visit Forsyth Park, be ready......it has to be one of the most beautiful places in North America. Words cannot describe how gorgeous it it. The huge oak trees dripping Spanish Moss, the magnificent fountain and the stately homes lining the park make for an unforgettable experience. I suggest you start walking on Bull Street from Oglethorpe or Bay towards Forsyth Park. On the way you will experience all the squares with beautiful historic homes. Bull Street runs directly into Forsyth Park, the view again is a show stopper!! And I haven't even seen the place when the azeleas are in bloom!! read more

Walked this park many times while in town. A beautiful and well used park. Visited the farmers market on Saturday also which was very good. The fountain was not for me sadly--very busy and not at all serene. I just didn't understand what the theme was or the point of it. I'm not asking for it to be replaced that would be silly. Just my opinion. read more

This is the jewel of the city the park of which the city is proudest . My review is not based on the park at this time it's being based on the farmers market that takes place here every Saturday rain or shine. Where else can you meet local farmers & buy produce that hadn't been sitting around for who knows how long & been sprayed with who knows what. You can get breads, vegetables , fruit, grass-fed beef , eggs , milk & honey too . My daughter has allergies & was on meds for it until we started giving her local honey ( after talking to her pediatrician ) know guess what bye-bye meds true story . Sure it may cost a little extra but you can really taste the difference & more importantly you're helping your local community & helping local farmers to boot ! read more

Great park with the beautiful oak trees with Spanish moss that Savannah is known for. The park is great for walking as well as bicycling. What a gorgeous and vibrant place in the heart of Savannah! We stayed across the street from the park for two nights while visiting Savannah in early December and must have taken half a dozen strolls in the park in 48 hours. I can't imagine anyone not falling in love with Savanna after spending some time around the park. Very dog friendly. In fact I think it may be a favorite training ground for local dog trainers as I saw quite a few purebreds in training. read more

Top notch! Take a magical stroll with camera in hand in Forsyth Park. The trees lining the walkway and Spanish moss hanging from the limbs creates such a romantic setting...you can't help but grab the arm of your companion. It's a very active park. From hosting the Rock 'n Roll Marathon one day to playing volleyball the next, this park is spacious and welcoming. Bring a book or a frisbee and enjoy the outdoors. Warning all you bike riders! Obey the walk-your-bike zones. The police take the dismount very, very seriously. I'm not sure how much the fine is, but we saw plenty of people getting written up. If you don't want to put a bummer in your day, then follow the rules. Did you know the beautiful white fountain was a Sears purchase many, many years ago?! Yep, only one other like it...somewhere. (Learned that from a tour, but can't remember the details today.) Enjoy. read more

A dream. I love this park, I was drawn to it. It is my ideal, when I think of a beautiful city park. It is lush and green, and the paths are lined with huge oak trees dressed in flowing Spanish Moss. The Dickens-esque light posts and surrounding Victorian mansions make for a gorgeous and nostalgic experience. If you like the haunted mansion area in Disneyland, you will love this park. The folks at Disneyland really hit the nail on the head in their replication of the look and feel of this part of the South. read more

If you visit Savannah you have to go to Forsyth Park. Forsyth Park is the largest park in the historic district of Savannah Georgia. The Park covers 30 acres of land just south of Gaston Street and north of Park Avenue. The east border of Forsyth Park is Drayton Street and on the west is Whitaker. For locals and tourists, Forsyth Park is a hub of social interaction. Concerts, recreation sports, people watching, sun bathing, reading, relaxing...can all be seen going on in Forsyth Park depending on when you are there. On Saturdays there is a great farmer's Market that takes place in Forsyth Park. If you are going to be visiting the historic district of Savannah make sure to plan an hour to head over to Forsyth Park and check it out. read more

If the grounds of the park weren't pristine and gorgeous and the fountain wasn't breathtaking and the mansions on the outskirts weren't full of history and old southern money, I'd still love this park. I would dearly and truly love it because of the life sized xylophone! Yes, you read that correctly. Life. Sized. Xylophone. I watched some folks attempt to play it unsuccessfully and decided I had to try. I stood staring in awe of its size and decided that this was an opportunity to open my mind and soul to something creative. I used my brain in ways I never had before without knowledge of that simple truth. It was fun, exciting, new and I want one in my yard someday very soon. I strongly recommend that you experience this as well and bask in the pure beauty of sound and soothing of your soul. read more

Forsyth is a large, beautiful park south of Savannah's Historic District. Almost every tour bus, including ours, circles around the mile perimeter of the park, passing all of the historic homes along the way. I can just imagine this place being packed with tourists and locals during the long, warm days of summer. Stop by and enjoy. read more

Looking for either a peaceful relaxing stroll or feeling the need to burn off some calories this is a great place to come. Family friendly. Lots of beautiful flowers, trees and wildlife. A very romantic place as well, lots of couples walking holding hands. Lots of families pushing strollers. We had the pleasure of having 4 teens walk up to us and asked us if we needed prayer for anything in our lives and after a few minutes of finding out who they were and where they came from we found out that they were from Florida and are presently on a mission trip here in Savannah. God had different plans, my wife and I had the great opportunity to pray for and encourage them. God had laid a scripture on my wives heart recently "The harvest is plenty and the workers are few." We didn't expect such a blessing. Plenty of seating all around. Only suggestion, some of the garbage cans could be emptied. Enjoy read more
