Beautiful, iconic, a must see on any southern road trip. This 30 acre park boasts tennis courts, basketball courts, an amphitheater, and the main attraction - the famous fountain. Fun facts: The fountain was erected in 1858 and is over 150 years old! Forsyth Park was designed after the French ideal of having a central public garden, and the fountain is said to be the garden's centerpiece (although it isn't at the center of the park). It is the most photographed space in Savannah. Spanish moss drapes the old oak trees (even in the winter) you are still able to see these full lush trees blowing in the wind. It is something that will make you take a deep breath and loose track of time as you stroll through admiring each tree one by one. One of the biggest parks we've ever been too. It was not super well maintained when we went and believe it or not the fountain was ordered from a catalogue! Parking is not a huge problem. There are metered spots along the edges. I do not like how far away it is from everything else in the city. Be prepared to take an uber or a car 15 mins out of the way to visit. A must-stop while in Savannah. read more

Great place to walk, sit, people watch, take photos. My "clearly my mind" walking place. Dogs, dogs and more dogs. My kinda heaven.

As parks go, this tops 'em all. Forsyth was a stone's throw from my Savannah airbnb, so every walk into town led us through this stunning natural oasis. There are so many gorgeous areas to relax, gaze at the elegant fountain, or stroll beneath the Spanish moss. And - bonus - it's a welcomed shady respite from that brutal southern heat for joggers, locals, tourists, cyclists, picnickers and dogwalkers alike. Though I walked through the park several times during my long weekend in Savannah, I know I've just barely scratched the surface - it's pretty massive! read more

Gorgeous park that is a must see when you're visiting Savannah. There lots of open grass areas for kids to run around or for a nice picnic in the park. They have two playgrounds filled with swings and slides for kids of all ages. Its also a nice area to run or walk your dog in. Remember to take a pic of the fountain. We came here a few times just to hang out and depending on the time you might spot a wedding taking place or a news camera crew. On the weekends they have local painters/artist stationed around the park working and selling their pieces. Grab a cup of coffee and stroll through the park. Its a great way to start or end your trip in Savannah. read more

OMG! What a beautiful park! These are the kinds pictures I have seen on social media and have been wanting to go. The Spanish moss trees are absolutely stunning. We went there in the morning when it was raining and even in the rain it was so beautiful. The fountain is the glorious focal point of the park. It is beautiful! There are plenty of places to sit on the park bench around the park if you want to stay and take in the scenery without walking too much. There is a visitor information center as well which they keep clean and provides information about the park and some of the surrounding activities you can do during your stay in Savannah. During the afternoon the park can get very busy. When we went in the morning there wasn't too many people there. Therefore, to get a more peaceful experience you may want to go in the morning. Definitely a must if you are traveling to Savannah. read more

Forsyth Park is a beautiful spot in a city full of beautiful spots. However, this one ranks at the top. The fountain is the most photographed and popular spot to the park. We saw a group of people being extra and taking photos in front of it with champagne glasses. I could imagine a lot of photo shoots take place here as it is just a cool sight. Besides the fountain, there is a playground area, a cafe and tennis and basketball courts. There were people walking their dogs, bicycling and running. It is a place to be active but it would also be a good place to relax. There are many trees and benches and I could see it being a perfect spot for a picnic on a warm day. The park is located close to some of the SCAD buildings and is not too long of a walk from other sights in the historic district. This was one of my favorite stops I made in Savannah, as it is well-maintained and a great place for all ages! read more

Such a nice park to run, walk your dog, or bring your kids. The stone pathways are wide so that helps keep distance during Covid. Everyone in Savannah seems really friendly, too. Forsyth Park is a beautiful area, right in the heart of Savannah. It is always bustling with people working out, sun bathing, or playing sports. It is my absolute favorite spot to run in Savannah! The path around the outside of the park is exactly a mile, and the gorgeous trees surrounding the area provide plenty of shade. There are basketball courts, tennis courts, a children's area, and plenty of field space to enjoy any kind of activity you may be interested in. I've seen everything from bubble soccer to fencing matches being played in the park. There's never a shortage of people watching! You also have to check out the fountain near the middle of the park. Forsyth Park - Fountain at Forsyth - Parks Near Me - Savannah, Georgia

Quite simply one of the biggest green spaces I have ever visited within a city. Being there, it gives off a sense of being much bigger than it might look on a map or from the outskirts looking in. I'd recommend visiting in both in day and night if you are a Savannah tourist strolling about town. The fountain, the statues, the oak trees, the wide-open grassy areas -- all make for a picturesque park experience. Plus, the diversity of foliage and plants is identified so you know what those plants are for those interested. There's also tennis and basketball courts, etc. if you came to the park to sweat, rather than relax. If you are doing a self-guided on-foot tour of Savannah, I strongly recommend coordinating this into your day, even though it is a bit north from the traditional squares everyone goes to - it's well worth sidetracking for an hour. Make this a good starting point or halfway point and take in some of the nearby neighborhoods on the few blocks you have to walk out of the way (suggestion: use Yelp to find a coffee shop on the way). The foliage leading up to the magical fountain at the center is extremely lush with an amazing canopy providing shaded areas all over the place. It's clean and well-maintained and the daytime crowd is a good mix of locals, tourists, and in-between. When I was there someone sneezed on the way out, and another person shouted from 50 yards away: God Bless You! Now, THAT is southern hospitality. read more

It's about a mile walk around the park but definitely worth the time. Then we took a slow stroll through the park watching the family's and couples playing and just enjoying the park. Forsyth park - One of Savannah's must see parks in the heart of historic district. The famous 160 yr old fountain is still in good condition and surrounded by oak trees. I can sit here all day, relax and do some people watching! Tip: keep your camera ready, as there is plenty to see here as well. Stroll past the stunning white-stone Forsyth Fountain, memorials dedicated to the Confederacy and the Spanish-American War, the Fragrant Garden for the Blind and the 300-year-old Candler Oak tree. From the park, you can see several historic sites within walking distance, including Hodgson Hall (home to the Georgia Historical Society) and the old Poor House and Hospital, which was used to treat wounded soldiers during the Civil War. read more

History and exercise. Can't really beat it! A great park to visit while you're in the area. Plenty of sights within your walk around, so make sure you stop and read the history! An iconic piece of Savannah. Generally what people picture when thinking about what Savannah looks like. Nice walkway through the middle of the park with statues, monuments, and fountains. I also like that they don't allow cyclists and skateboarders on part of the sidewalk to allow people who are walking to stroll around and look around. The park has huge fields on either side, tennis courts, a skate park, a playground, and possibly some other amenities open to the public. This is definitely one of the jewels of the city! read more

I wanted to go see the legend itself. It's a very nice park, had a couple playgrounds. One side was more for smaller kids, the other for bigger. There are lots of people there trying to sell stuff and make money, and sadly lots of homeless people Lounge there. I'm happy we went, but not somewhere I'd visit regularly. read more

Do you ever take the time to go to the park and just sit and enjoy yourself? I realized I don't do it enough! One day I headed over to the Farmer's Market, which is just nice enough to stroll through. The selection rarely catches my eye - I've seen better and you may too depending where you visit from. It's lovely to sit by the fountain and people watch. You can catch a proposal, an engagement shoot, even a wedding! I wonder if divorces happen here too. It simply seems like Forsyth is the place where anything could happen. If you're local, come on out here, maybe before or after lunch. Or even bring your own picnic! Now that would be a nice date! There's a cafe and a children's play area. Plus tennis courts too. I think it's fair to say that there's something around here for everyone. The loop around the park is about a mile, if you'd like to get some walking, running or cycling in. I've done all three. If you're a tourist, people are bound to tell you about Forsyth, so just go ahead and bookmark this spot for your next visit! read more

Great park for everything that a park has to offer- summer time picnic, concerts, pets, running, walking and playing sports. Yes, you can drink alcoholic drinks at the park but the drink has to be in a clear glass, no cans and bottles. Love going there for a picnic on a sunny beautiful spring afternoon! There is a tennis court at the park. You can see people playing sports all over the park. They also have farmers market on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. You get to see and try local farmer grown products from cheese to vegetables to coffee. read more

Landmark location that is in several movies. The bus tours go all the way around the park giving a history of the park as well as the activities that happen throughout the park. Here is a little about Forsyth Park: Occupies 30 acres in the historic district of Savannah, Georgia. The park is bordered by Gaston Street on the North, Drayton Street on the East, Park Avenue on the South and Whitaker Street on the West. It contains walking paths, a children's play area, a Fragrant Garden for the blind, a large fountain, tennis courts, basketball courts, areas for soccer and Frisbee, and home field for Savannah Shamrocks Rugby Club. From time to time, there are concerts held at Forsyth to the benefit of the public. Looks like it would be a great location to catch a concert in the park and would love to be there for that some time. Also, 700 Drayton is an amazing restaurant that overlooks the park. Beautiful scenery makes for a great place to walk and get pictures. Highly recommend coming by here during your stay in Savannah. read more

Absolutely gorgeous!! This park is EXACTLY what you would imagine, if I told you close your eyes... now think of a beautiful, romantic, old-time park in the deep, 'ole, south. Feel the heat on your face, hear the beautiful, bubbling fountain in the middle of the park. Now open your eyes and walk down the pathways under the hanging Spanish moss filled trees. Just gorgeous! Your trip to Savannah will not be complete without a visit to Forsyth Park! Not only is it Savannah's largest park, but it's probably also the most popular! if you are "squared-out" from all the stops at the countless squares around town, have no fear, the 10-acre park will re-energize you! Here you'll first find (if walking from downtown) the picturesque view of Spanish moss covered oaks with a beautiful fountain in the distance. But, the park also includes two playgrounds, two huge fields, tennis and basketball courts, a Confederate Memorial, a half shell theatre and a cafe that serves lunch (although I've never eaten there!). You might be talked into buying a local rose made from palm leaves, see a wedding photo shoot going down, or possibly even stumble into the Saturday farmers market. Regardless, this iconic spot is one that you won't want to miss! read more

Heaven. This park is everything you imagine it will be and more. Truly if there was a park that was romantic, magical, dreamy and peaceful all in one it would be Forsyth Park. Growing up with Oak tree's in my hometown I was in arbor heaven under the canopy of Oaks, Magnolia, Rhododendron and Spanish moss hanging down. There are plenty of benches for many to have a rest on. My fiancé and I, along with our two dogs, sat for a while to have lunch and watch people pose in front of the fountain. There were many. It is very much a destination for both visitors and locals. One half of the park has the oaks and benches. The other half offers a playground for the kiddos, with a long stretch of open grass field just behind. I imagine it would be the ideal spot for festivals during the summertime. read more

It's the most beautiful historic park in downtown Savannah, Georgia. A majestic scenery with lots of historic houses and mansions overlooking this beautiful park. Hidden deep within this little sanctuary, there is a monumental fountain with entangle pathways leading all around the outskirts of the park. This park offers great amenities such as a soccer field, basketball, and tennis court. It's great for joggers, bikers, and people who just want to relax. I come here for little picnic dates, reminisce at nature's beauty. The pathway is something to deeply enjoy, huge oak trees hovering the trails leading to the monuments. Their are lots of special events hosted at Forsyth park. This park is where the city of Savannah comes to life. There are so many activities that go on in this park. Then again, you can also come here for some peace and solitude. I stumbled across this park when I was doing a free walking tour of the city. I think I lost the group for a little bit because I was so taken back by the park and its beauty. I saw artist, people bring their own hammock and hang it between trees, people reading on the benches, kids playing, dogs playing, etc. Forsyth park is located in the southern edge of the historic district. It is located between Drayton street and Whitaker. The sight to see when you come to this park is the Forsyth Park Fountain. It was built in 1858. Our tour guide told us a little history about the fountain and what I found interesting is that they dye the water in the fountain green for St. Patricks Day. The Irish pride in this city is something to be spoken about. He also mentioned that they have one of the best Farmers Markets on Saturdays around the fountain. Writing this review has me reminiscing about my time in Savannah. I cannot wait to come back. Perhaps I will bring my own hammock and a nice book to read. read more

Huge and beautiful park with a mix of classic and new features and plenty of open space for fun! Beautifully lush grass and trees!!!

The Grand Central Park of Savannah. Well, not as big, no lake, no zoo... but it's an analogy fer cryin' out loud. The classic, sculptural fountain is gorgeous, but you'll be admiring it from a few feet away while your hands grasp the wrought iron fence. No one's going to be stealing the wishing pennies from this fountain. There are big trees for shady picnics, big lawns for sunny picnics, a playground, paved paths for walkers and beautiful gardens, and, well, that's about it. It's big and pretty and picnicky. It's good for tourists to stroll through, but even better for residents to hang out in. read more

Start with the majestic fountain and imposing statues. Then look out, your surrounded by an amphitheater, children's park, tennis and basketball courts, contrasted by the wide open fields on each side of the the main path...here, everyone is sharing some sort of connection either personal or collective. This composition doesn't go unnoticed. The spectators, historical structures sit and skirt the only barrier, a street, which loops the park. These properties sit and watch, as if the park itself were a stage of some sort of theatrical performance. With that said, the performance never ends. Yeah so the park is lively and positive, everyone is having a party. Your babies won't cry here. read more

Forsyth Park is what I was looking forward to in Savannah. I never knew the name of the location. All I could remember were pictures of the trees. Parking sucks here. You'll also be lucky to find a spot. Luck was on our side with parking in Savannah today. I just wanted to check out the statues and most of all, the water fountain. The trees add a special touch to the park. There was an empty stage I saw. Many people were cycling and walking around the park. Adding in the many beautiful greenery. The squirrels were not afraid of humans. So many were there just standing while people passed by. The playground was not full of kids. The basketball court was full but is fenced in when you first walk in the park. The main attraction is definitely the water fountain. We saw many people getting married and had their photo shoot near the water fountain. One section was closed off for a live wedding. It's a beautiful park with lots of sidewalks. Forsyth Park was the highlight of our Savannah trip. read more
