The largest park downtown, with many paths, benches, a restaurant, fields, and a huge fountain (the highlight). Many people here, and I didn't care for the locals harassing us for money, or whatever, as we walked down the main path to the fountain. Ever wanted to have a moment from "The Notebook" where you feel light, airy and romantic? Forsyth Park is absolutely one of those places. Between the Spanish Moss trees, the walkways, the beautiful houses surrounding the park and the ambiance, who wouldn't fall in love with this place? I walked by Forsyth Park day and evening when I was staying in Savannah and I truly loved sitting by the fountain and people watching. This was probably one of the best times of the year to come since the weather was nice and cool during the day and night, and there was a farmer's market open on Saturday morning. This is one of the places you have to visit if you're stopping through Savannah. It's an icon for a reason! There are also parks for the kids to play, wide open spaces under the beautiful trees to picnic or simply enjoy a nap, and benches to rest after a long day of walking around the city. I absolutely love this city, it is one of my favorite places to visit, but this is one of my favorite spots! read more

Very pretty and idyllic park in the middle of Savannah. This is the must-go park with the beautiful fountain, surrounded by Spanish moss trees, that you see in paintings and on post cards. It's a short trek from where most hotels are, and it's worth the walk down through the various squares. The park itself is sizable but not huge. Once you get past the northern end with the fountain, there is also a confederate monument a little further south. Past that, there isn't a lot more but that's fine; it's really just a good place to chill. Definitely a must visit if it's your first time in town. read more

A beautiful place to visit! The fountain and grounds are beautiful, open and well kept! Several playgrounds, and the Collins is a great place to stop for a drink or a bite to eat. Plenty of trees provide shade, and lots of benches for a rest. There were musicians and others there selling little craft items when we went; wasn't crowded during the week in October. read more

Very beautiful park not far from where we were staying. Of course, that was on my list of must-sees. There you will see the iconic water fountain except that first day the water was colored blue which took away from the aesthetic. The azaleas were especially vibrantly colored and fantastic especially since we live north of there and spring hadn't truly arrived like it had here. It's always wonderful to see the live oak trees with the spanish moss. Also, a very nice playground for the kids to play in. Super landscaping and very well-maintained. read more

Forsyth Park is a must-see spot in Savannah, Georgia. This beautiful 30-acre park dates back to the 1840s. During our visit to Savannah this park provided us with a much needed shady space to stroll in the sweltering July heat and humidity. Our toddler loved the playground and the splash pad. Of all the many smaller Parks/"squares", this is historic downtown Savannah's largest park. This park was named after one of Georgia's governors, John Forsythe, from a longer time ago. Being just a visitor here, it was one of the many things to do during our walks around this city. It's a very beautiful park and appears to being a host for many local events here including, but not limited to a farmers market which happened to be taking place during our visit. My only complaint is that their public restroom had run out of soap. This beautiful historic park has most of the things that any typical park has. For example, it has playgrounds, sports courts, fountains, a garden, public restrooms, wide open spaces for picnics, statues, plenty of trees, etc. Of course with a beautiful main park like this, it was surrounded by a beautiful neighborhood with sprinkles of quaint cafés, a local organic grocery store, and restaurants which we took advantage of. All in all, a lovely experience. Such a beautiful place for a nice walk! read more

Beautiful historic park. I walk through the park every morning on my way to work and it makes it the most magical and pleasant morning stroll I've ever had. Early morning, between 0600-0700 is the best time to see the park. You'll avoid crowds, hear the birds, and find parking easily. Some special mornings, you'll be treated to a gentle mist rising from the grass and forming a Halo around the fountain. read more

This is an absolute stunner of a park. It is as busy and bustling as I've ever seen an area in a city before. Joggers, people walking, people ridding bikes, tourists and locals just all around a little bit of everybody crosses through this expanse. I was completly amazed at the Southern charm and the overall beauty of this place. From the playground area for the kids to the magnificent fountain Forsyth is just jaw dropping. You can relax or play in any one of the multitude of areas this park provides to do so. I stopped over here to walk my dog on our road trip and I was just planning on doing a quick walk but we ended up staying for almost an hour just walking around and admiring the beautiful trees. I would definitely recommend stopping here! There were playground for the kids, huge fields for sports teams to gather, great place for a picnic, or just sit on the benches. The place everyone said to visit in Savannah was Forsyth Park. It's such a peaceful spot with lots of people spending time on blankets in the grass, sitting on benches around the fountain or walking their dogs. We first came by and tried to find parking and couldn't find any, so we ended up parking at our hotel and just making the walk over. If you don't mind a 15 minute walk, I feel like you could walk here from most places in this part of Savannah. We came by just to enjoy the fountain and let our kid play for a little while. It definitely lived up to what everyone said. It was peaceful and beautiful and definitely a spot you could bring a book or a picnic to. There are also some coffee shops + businesses near the playground that you could walk over to and grab a coffee (The Sentient Bean) before sitting and letting your kids play. While we didn't do that this time, if we come back through the area, I'll definitely make that my game plan. Overall, it's a spot you should at least stop by if you're spending time in Savannah. I can't speak to how it might be once students return to campus, but I can say that when we went, it was wonderful. read more

Forsyth Park.. 10 acres in the heart of Savannah with beautiful landscaping, sculptures, monuments and fountains to be enjoyed by everyone. Open space being a treasure in these times. The huge old oak trees with abundant Spanish Miss draping from them, massive Magnolias dotted everywhere. At this time of year, the blooms from the Azaleas, Wisteria's, Jasmines, Camellias and Dogwoods are just sublime and the smell permeating all around is so relaxing and calming. There are numerous footpaths through this Park, the central one is part of Bull St. One of the main thoroughfares to get you from A to B in the city. I just loved it here, I felt it was very European. People with families, lots of dogs, people in hammocks reading, picnicking, doing yoga, walking , running. It's just great. It's as if the world forces you to slow down. The Park also has The Collins Quarter a sister restaurant to the one further down town. It provides a nice respite for those wanting to dine or drink coffee. I didn't but so many people were. And of course there is a large children's play area. All in all this is quintessentially Savannah and I loved it. Do not miss the opportunity to meander through it. read more

We missed the Farmers Market due to a thunderstorm but we did pay Forsyth Park a visit later in the afternoon on our recent trip to Savannah. Beautiful park and sitting down on a bench to relax and enjoy the fountain was perfect. Shortly after sitting down a young man asked me to record him proposing to his girlfriend. Ummmm, Me? Buddy, are you sure you want to trust me with this once in a lifetime moment, on your iPhone? Ok! I agreed :) and did. It really made our visit here that much more romantic. It's the perfect backdrop for romance. I've seen many beautiful fountains in many cities around the world and this one holds its own against the others. Other reviews mention parking, which wasn't an issue for us since we took a nice stroll to get here. Walking through several of the Squares in Savannah really adds to the visit. I'd say walk if you can. Oh, and she said "Yes" so our visit was a success! read more

Forsyth Park is a huge park filled with so much life! We love parks because we know our dog can go and he can have a blast playing fetch. This park has playground, a fountain, statues, beautiful trees, and vibrant flowers. We came for the Dying of the fountain for St. Patrick's Day. The area around the fountain quickly became full of people in Green and shamrocks everywhere. It took a little while for the green to show, but after awhile the green fountains were visible. This was the start of the St. Patrick's day festivities in Savannah. This park is a must see for nature lovers. I can't believe it was developed in the 1800's. My husband and I always like going here when we visit Savannah. The fountain is beautiful and it's a wonderful walk. We especially like to go during the Farmers market the best place to get fresh peaches. What a serene spot. We did a leisurely stroll through the park starting with the fountain, taking in the memorial, finding the secret Fragrant Garden, and walking the perimeter to view the architectural beauties that surround the park. We enjoyed some street musicians and sidewalk jewelry hawkers as well. The mounted police officers were kind enough to let the children in our group pet their horses. Without having had the time to explore the other parts of Savannah's squares, I was certainly glad we made the time to explore here. read more

Having never been to the South before, this park definitely verified all of my preconceived stereotypes of the South. It has huge trees that are hundreds of years old that cover the park in a huge canopy. There are also a few confederate monuments there as well which are the first that I've seen so far. So we came to visit Savannah, GA earlier this year, and our AirBnB was right next to Forsyth Park, so everywhere we had to walk to, we walked through here. There were constantly joggers jogging around and through, because it's such a great spot with many different pathways. There were musicians playing all over the place, there's a dedicated basketball court at one end of the park, and the place was obviously a meetup point for different events. We saw some sort of Mommy and Me event, we saw a youth soccer club, and we saw a bunch of people who were with each other just chillin' and suntanning. The centerpiece of the park was obviously the fountain. People were constantly taking pictures with it, sitting around watching it, and it's where the musicians were playing. It's a great place. Don't come to Savannah without checking this place out. read more

Forsyth Park is the heart and soul of Savannah. We knew we had to make a stop here after my first visit here. Parking was difficult but I felt like it was going to be worth it. And it was! Street parking isn't too bad, just be willing to walk a block or two on a popular morning if necessary. We stumbled upon the Farmer's Market that morning at Forsyth Park. Booths and stands of organic goods and delights were available for our perusal. There is a booth at the front to exchange money for tokens, as I didn't have cash. The tokens are $1 for 1 token, although there is a $1 transaction fee. I only exchanged for $3, which cost me $4. However, I couldn't resist the Perc Cold Brew being offered by a Perc rep. Yum. Wish I had some creamer at hand, but it still went down pretty smoothly from the glass beer bottle it was bottled in. We walked through the park past the fountain and underneath the beautiful canopy trees. Sure, there are tourists galore, but they don't draw the attention away from the beauty that is part of Forsyth Park. A must-go destination in Savannah for every traveler in the area. read more

I go running and for walks here a lot. It's a beautiful park that's super spacious. And the trees lining the sidewalks with Spanish moss is beautiful. The sidewalks go around the middle of the park, through the center, and a rectangle all around. The perfect place for a run or walk. Also, the fields are big so you can play sports there. There's a lot of cool events that happen there, definitely check those out. Only thing I'd say is just watch about for some people who might harass you there, only happened to me twice. Really pretty park with plenty to do. Of course the main attraction is the gorgeous fountain, which is even on candy boxes here. Tons of benches surround the fountain, for a perfect little nap or just to sit and relax for a few minutes. There are large paved areas where bikers aren't allowed which is nice so you don't have to worry about that - there are smaller bike paths. Lots of swings and playground equipment for the kids (and maybe playful adults). There are also large open field areas, so bring a picnic blanket, or a ball to kick/throw around... I even saw a person tie up their own hammock, which I think is pretty genius. read more
