My latte and scone were delicious and the staff very friendly. I haven't really explored the art, but the space extends way back into the building, and there are places to sit throughout. Also, bonus, you can bring your dog inside to order coffee! The only thing for improvement I can see is if it could be clearer what the relationship is between these two spaces, and whether coffee patrons are allowed back in the art space with food. Some people walked in clearly looking for a place to have a meeting, and they were guides back into the art space, whereas they moved some stuff around so I could sit in the coffee shop area - is there some protocol I'm missing?

I do agree with this establishment's art mission. But, I find their policy very contradictory to the mission. Apparently, it's a literary and film art establishment. They have books there and they have art films they display. The books seem to be for display purposes only. You can't borrow them or take them home to read. I've never heard of a cafe with a library that prohibits their patrons from borrowing the books. It's almost unheard of but this is the standard at high/low. Also, the service there is obscenely slow. It took them about 15 minutes to churn out a breakfast sandwich and an orange cardamom latte. When I unwrapped the sandwich the first thing I saw was how it was poorly wrapped and made. If you like a southwest breakfast sandwich this may be for you. But it wasn't a good sandwich for me. The bell pepper taste was overpowering and there was hardly any sausage in the egg scramble. Also the orange cardamom latte was so small. Total amount that I paid was well over $16 for the beverage and a poorly made breakfast sandwich. I don't think I will be going back there.

We spent about an hour checking out the art and chatting with Bryan, the super-nice owner. The space is really cool and has huge windows facing Jefferson. On one side is "mojo studios" complete with funky furniture and a splatter-painted floor. The other side is more of your typical art gallery. They have openings on fridays every 2 weeks and we've been back a few times. Who doesn't love art openings? Super cheap date and easy way to instantly feel sophisticated!

I live downtown just a block away and I wanted to help paint the board ups. I don't currently have paint at my house but when I heard paint was being delivered for folks to come and paint the board ups, I headed out. Bryan, the owner of this gallery was there with a design in his head that would cover every single broken window on the street. Also, his design was very juvenile and crappy compared to the board ups that have been painted on Delmar. He wouldn't let anyone touch anything and we were certainly am emphatically told we were not allowed to paint. We were allowed to clean up after him if we wanted to. Ha! Screw that! I am an artist. I would've been a wonderful asset to this project. The only reason he's doing this is because he wants exposure for his gallery. I get that most artist are not team players and are used to working alone but this is a community event and should've involved all the people in the community that wanted to be there. When I arrived there were at least a dozen people there to help. When I left about 20 minutes later, when I realized I would have no input or ever see a paintbrush in my hand, there were two people left-- NO THANKS! I will never patronize this man's gallery or patronize him as an artist. Shame on you!
