The Dollar Dream is somewhere in between. My wife was making a crock pot chicken recipe that called for Thyme which she did not have in the spice rack. So instead of waiting in line at Wal Mart for a bottle of spices, we went to the Dollar Dream. I think it's closer to us than Wal Mart too. Big parking lot right next to Pat's Pizza. Pretty big store too. Several aisles offering everything from baby food to potting soil. Party supplies to laundry detergent. Pet food to spices. Most of it a dollar. We found the Thyme she was looking for (for a dollar) and she also grabbed a can of chicken broth, also a dollar, "just in case". The place is really a cross between a dollar store and a convenience store. They have a lottery machine and sell cigarettes. They once had a frozen food section with TV dinners but now just offer milk, juices and teas in their refrigerated section. They sell ice, for a dollar a bag. Not a big bag but still, can't beat a bag of ice for a buck. They sell outdated Tastykake pies, much cheaper than fresh ones everywhere else. Not sure what is up with that. I am a fan of freshness so I would rather pay full price for a fresh pie. The guys working here seem friendly. Will stop here again, for whatever.

I actually met the owner, Karen, on a shuttle bus at a NY tradeshow last year. When I got on the shuttle, there was a seat open next to her and I took it. We got to talking and realized that we live close to each other. She was telling me how she is opening up her 2nd clothing boutique in Medford. I finally stopped in there last night (after my visit to the DMV). I wasn't planning on it but happened to see the sign and made a beeline for the 1st available spot. I have been meaning to get there since she opened. WOW! Was I glad I stopped. I had no idea what I was in for. I get so excited when I walk into a store and my heart starts to pound - I know I found a little treasure. That's what happened when I walked into Sandy Banks. So much to look at, so much to touch and so much to try! Her lines are classy and tailored, trendy and hip and fun & easy clothing for women - quality and very stylish finds....of course I ended up buying some stuff! I found a cozy fitted short sweater that buttons up and has a v-neck with a foldover collar and is a marled brown/ivory color. SOFT!! I also picked up a cool retro design makeup bag AND a rope bracelet that is black leather with a silver open square in the center. I went here for Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) as a way to finally get a feel for the place. I had…read moreheard of Fat Jack's, but I always keep forgetting to check it out considering it's right down the street from Secret Origins. But I figured FCBD was the perfect opportunity since most shops use it as a way to connect with and introduce new patrons to their business. Upon opening the front door, I was immediately greeted by a very friendly cat. I thought, okay, this is my type of place, being a cat guy myself. But that's where the warm feelings end. Unfortunately, the feline was the only friendly personality here as the owner didn't want to acknowledge or make it feel like I was really wanted. (And after reading some of these other reviews, I can see that I'm not alone in that regard.) As for the selection of books itself, there is certainly a HUGE selection of new releases and back issue bins to go through. Unfortunately, all the back issues are priced at market value or higher. Not exactly a competitive price considering all of the other local comic book stores in the same area have much better pricing. Plus, dollar bins.

It's also located next to The House of Fun toy shop. Interior of the shop is nothing to look at; it's rough and could use a renovation. New pull selection of comics was fair, but had a good selection of graphic novels. Almost no wall books to speak of. Where this shop stands out is, like the other location, is the large longbox selection. This takes up the majority of the shops space. An important item worth noting is the shop does have several comic cats. They are friendly and like pets. Overall, while this location could use a renovation, I think it's easier to access and better then the Philadelphia shop.

The shops on and around Main Street of this Historic Village include antiques, boutiques, home decor, restaurants and more! (Before you read any further, let me just say, shopping is not my thing, probably one of the things I dislike the most to do! ) As if this adorable town wasn't grand enough, my husband and I stumbled across a boutique set back off Main Street named Annie's Cranny, and we met Shannon, the owner. I will say, when I first walked in, I was afraid it was going to be the same as most boutiques, if you aren't a "tiny size" there's nothing here for you. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised!!! Not only does she carry size women's small all the way up to 3X, she really did have plenty of inventory in all sizes!! Shannon almost immediately came over to see if I needed help and became like a personal shopper for me. Well, that's her job, right, to give the best service for her business. Yes, I agree. When you shop in Annie's Cranny and meet Shannon you get so much more than merchandise. On the website under "About the Boutique" it states "Our women's clothing boutique aims to provide an exceptional shopping experience of empowerment, inclusivity and good vibes." Shannon did all that and more. When I leave an establishment, especially a clothing boutique, feeling better than when I walked in and happier, that, my friends, is a job well done!
