I can not stress this more IT WAS A STRESSFUL TIME! FAMILY MEMORIAL WAS THE LEAST OF THE STRESS! They were wonderful and so easy! My brother passed away , the old Victorian was warm ,comforting, and like home ! They treated my request with love ,understanding! I wanted to dress my brother he made sure I had gloves,and all the items I would need ! My daughter requested to do his makeup he offered to assist, my brother was perfect so no need for makeup to look Normal ! He allowed us to come early to set up ! Everyone said they had been to a few services but this was the first time they felt at home relaxed and comfortable! Thank you I can't express enough how it was amazing ! I guess I understand why a place like this has so few reviews. It's really not something someone wants to think about more than necessary--even the extra 5-10 min. to write a review. But, a friend of mine used this place years ago and I saw her review then and bookmarked it in case I was ever in the same predicament which I recently found myself in with the surprise loss of my mother who hadn't even been ill. Michael was quick to respond to every email with multiple details because my situation got very complicated including the medical examiner, a pathologist who cancelled out at the last minute and my traveling long distance during Covid to handle matters. During the most stressful and depressing days of my life, I came here to this nice Victorian house for my mother's body. He told me the family picked this home because it wasn't cold and he was absolutely correct. Michael was patient and efficient and I found the prices reasonable because who wants to feel screwed over when dealing with the body of their most loved one. At my request, he even divided my mom's ashes into packets that I could give to her friends who wanted to do their own little ceremonies during Covid. I was embarrassed to ask, but knew I wasn't up for that task myself and he handled it with grace and warmth and refused at tip I offered for that extra step. Highly recommended. The people that work here are very kind. I came in to pre plan my fathers final arrangements. They are in no way pushy on any item to buy or services. Great experience on something so hard that needed to be done. I live out of state but I highly recommend their services. If you are looking for care in your lived ones arrangements, this is the place. I know when my father does pass it will be a positive experience working with them at that time as well. read more

This is depressing, but since Family Memorial Mortuary made a really traumatic experience a lot less awful than I expected, I thought I'd be the first to review them. My mom passed away unexpectedly and I had to get up to Portland from Los Angeles immediately to take care of everything. Having no plans in place and not knowing what to do, I looked online and sent some links to my other family members to start calling while I was in transit. We decided on Family Memorial because they had fair pricing, were very upfront about everything and Mike, the owner, was really helpful on the phone. Understandably, I was not looking forward to having to actually go there and deal with any of it. Who does? But upon our arrival, it was a sweet little wood frame house instead of what you'd normally think a funeral home would look like. Mike immediately put me at ease and was very kind, compassionate, respectful and friendly. His sense of humor was appreciated, and he is genuinely nice. We discussed the environmental impact of various choices and he was very open with everything. Under the circumstances, I chose cremation. He explained the process in the most tasteful way possible. There was no up-selling, or pressure to do anything we weren't comfortable with. I wonder how folks in his line of business deal with all they have to do and see on a daily basis, but I'm thankful that he's who I dealt with and would highly recommend him to anyone else in need. read more

I'm not quite sure how to review a funeral home, as there's so much emotion behind using a service like this. Family Memorial Mortuary was a great resource for me in a difficult time. They were expedient and knowledgeable and overall I am happy with them. There were a few issues I had toward the end, but if you don't have, um, difficult family members, you probably won't have to encounter these issues. If you choose to use them, they are very understanding about finances, logistics, and, most importantly, grief. read more

It has been over a year since our mother passed away, and understandably, it has taken our family some time to rebuild our equilibrium & come to terms with our "new normal." That said, it has been in our minds to review Family Memorial Mortuary so others will know of its outstanding service and genuine care throughout the entire process. Our mother had specific requests for a certain type of casket and to be buried in a pioneer cemetery. Susie at Family Memorial orchestrated both with such care and sensitivity that it made an unbearable process much easier than expected. In addition, the undertakers (which included Susie's husband) came to my mother's condo when she passed away (at night on a Sunday) and took her with loving dignity, all the while being extremely sensitive to what chaos and grief this was causing my sister and me. You can truly tell this is a family owned business by the way the owners (Susie and her husband) treat their clients during one of the most difficult times in life, and what is truly appreciated - - they do NOT try upsell you on items or services you do not need. They provide options and from there, the family can choose what it prefers. The pine casket was a work of art, and the owners took beautiful care of my mother right through the funeral service, which was nearby their Victorian home. Susie cared for us like loving family through the end, which we so appreciated during this most devastating and difficult time. Five stars isn't sufficient to describe the service and care of Family Memorial Mortuary. Truly, TRULY excellent. read more
