There's a real disconnect between the doctors, schedulers, and billing team. I think they are running scams to get $100 here and there. They double schedule you and charge you for the appointment missed, they schedule you at a location you've never been before behind your back, and boom another hundred dollars lost. I called and explained and they told me they could do nothing for me. I cried and mentioned not knowing what to do and mentioned the police as I did not make these appointments. They immediately got defensive, fixed the problem, and then threatened to me that they could refuse my business do to me bringing up the police in regards to money, something really concerning and fishy is going on... I've spent a whole year receiving amazing treatment from the doctors, it's a shame that getting your money back with them is next to impossible, save your money, if something happens, you won't be helped, and I guess you're never allowed to call the police either.

This includes the new mole that appeared on my arm recently. I'm very pale and go from white to red hot burn in about 30 minutes in the sun which means skin cancer is one of my biggest fears. SO, when I noticed this new thing pop up and realized it looked a little funky (darker than the rest of my moles, a little wonky in shape, etc) I got pretty freaked out and made an appointment at the UofM derm clinic asap. When I called they were SUPER nice and managed to get me in within 2 weeks. Initially I called my primary care doctor and I couldn't get an appointment there for 2 MONTHS so I was pleased I wasn't going to have to stress out about it for that long. Since I was nervous my fella went to the appointment with me. The only complaint I have about this clinic is the teeny tiny lobby. It was pretty crowded when we went and finding two seats next to each other proved to be a bit of a challenge. It was like trying to grab a table at a popular restaurant--hovering and waiting for someone to get up so you could jump in and take their spot. Anyway, the wait to go back was a bit long but not terrible. My appointment was 1:30 but I didn't get taken back until close to 2pm. The good news is once I got back there I didn't really have to wait. The super nice resident came in within a few minutes and took a look first, she explained that while it was small, it *was* atypical so they recommend a removal and biopsy. Not going to lie, this was the point I freaked. I was hoping I'd go in and they'd look at it and say, "Ehh, looks ok. You're just paranoid. Go home!" like every other time I've gotten something checked but this time it was not meant to be. She left me to ponder a removal as she went to bring in the attending. The attending came in a few minutes later and checked me from head to toe to find other wonky looking things or a mole that resembled the new one that popped up. Luckily she didn't find the former but since she didn't find the latter either she reiterated what the resident said, let's take it off and make sure it's ok. So, I found myself stretched out, arm up, getting numbed up and cut up. I thought they'd make me come back for it but nope--they did it right then. The lidocaine numbed me up real good so I didn't feel a darn thing other than the initial shot. I got a little woozy when I looked over before she put the bandage on and saw the hole but it wasn't too bad. The resident was quick and chatted pleasantly while she did the procedure so I wasn't too focused on what was going on, which I appreciated. She also answered my fatalist questions ("soooo, what happens if it is the big C? If it's abnormal cells?" etc) and didn't seem exasperated which I was grateful for. I was discharged and told that it would be about a week, most likely sooner, before I had my results. The resident told me she'd call me either way which I appreciated since most places say "no news is good news" and you drive yourself crazy waiting until the max amount of time you'd hear something passes. Given I went in a few days before a holiday weekend I wasn't hopeful I'd get news in less than a week but on Monday afternoon I saw the familiar UofM number come up on my phone. Single scariest phone call of my life to date but I'm happy to report everything checked out fine. Kind of anti climactic in the end, really. But I did have a huge "I don't have cancer!" ice cream cone that evening to celebrate. In the end my mind is at ease and I'm glad they were so wonderful to work with. The wound is healing but the bandaid ended up hurting more than the incision since I had a weird reaction to it and it pulled off some of my skin when I took it off to clean it. But that's it! I'll have a small scar but it's a small price to pay for peace of mind.

So when you schedule an appointment for a tattoo removal they will only consult with you on the day you go. Fine. Dr. Erica Stevens told me I needed a second appointment to do a "test" area for $175 to see which laser she will use. Fine. At The the third appointment they would begin a series of at least 8 treatments, separated by 4 weeks each for a cost of $450 each treatment at a total of AT LEAST....$3,500. My tattoo is 3.5 inches exactly. I did NOT like the doctor or the way she interacted with me. She said she can't guarantee full removal as well, which I already assumed. This place is a scam. They probably collect a lot of $95 five minute consultation fees all day long. They refuse to tell you how much they charge over the phone, when they know EXACTLY ABOUT how much it is. I'll tell you again what I was told for my small, GREEN only tattoo...$450 a session. Also, the laser machine looked dated to me. Not sure. Anyways I would avoid at all cost. My opinion...I wouldn't do any procedure Botox, fillers, lasers, nothing at all with Dr. Erica Stevens MD, or the clinic. U of M isn't always the best.

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! My mom paid almost $3,000 for a laser treatment that was recommended to her by…read morethe esthetician (Chloe), who confidently told her it would be a "one and done" treatment. She even said that if any dark spots remained, they would be taken care of at the follow‑up appointment 4-6 weeks later. She made it sound like the results would be amazing once the skin peeled and healed, so we trusted her. After the first treatment, my mom's forehead and chin looked a bit brighter, but the dark spots on her cheeks were still exactly the same--no improvement at all. I reassured my mom that it would be okay because they had promised to treat any remaining spots at the follow‑up. But when she went to her follow‑up appointment today, they suddenly changed the story. They told her that treating both cheeks was not included, and that the follow‑up only covered one small freckle on each side. They then tried to sell her another full treatment for the cheeks--after the first one didn't work in the first place. When I reminded the esthetician that she had said "one and done," she backtracked and claimed that "one and done" sometimes means up to three treatments--something she never mentioned before taking my mom's money. This feels like a scam. They expect my mom to keep paying thousands of dollars for treatments that didn't deliver the results they promised. Quality treatments are worth the price when they actually work, but this place did not deliver what they sold us. Don't waste your money here. We regret trusting them.

I saw Dr. Laing for a skin outbreak issue and she sent me home with some medication. I noticed some new issues on my skin and called the office - the woman I spoke with - who apparently had no medical knowledge - told me I should come in again. I returned for another visit and Dr. Laing saw me for 30 seconds and said I shouldn't have come in, I needed to wait out the medication. Then their office proceeded to bill me for the nonessential visit and I got a $70 bill. I called the office and explained that I was incorrectly directed to come into the office and I wasn't really seen at all. Their raised my concerns with Dr. Laing and she said too bad - you scheduled, so you have to pay. I went in one more time, and I had a few questions about hair loss and potential dermatology issues. Dr. Laing said she couldn't discuss it at all and hair issues had to be a totally separate visit in three parts. The first visit she could discuss the issue with me and the second visit she could examine and the third visit she would talk through the diagnosis, if any. And I'm sure she would be billing the whole time! I switched to Granger Dermatology over on Huron Parkway and they are wonderful! I had a quick visit, the doctor even answered my hair questions on the fly.

I have been to a different dermatologist's private practice (still go there for Botox), michigan medicine dermatology and both places prescribed dandruff shampoos that were too harsh for me and made it worse. Dr. Laing knew about an oil in combination with a shampoo that fixed my scalp in no time. She also got rid of eczema on my leg. Sadly, I just called to get my dad in for a skin check and they are not taking new patients at the moment. Clearly I'm not the only one who thinks highly of Dr. Laing!
