My wife's potato flan was quite nice, but it arrived buried under a heap of truffle shavings that tasted of nothing in particular. My main was a special of roast suckling pig with potatoes and a savoury tuile made with the pork drippings. The tuile was gratuitous -- a chef-y touch that didn't actually taste very nice. The suckling pig was beautifully cooked but the potatoes were weirdly inconsistent; some crisp and others mushy. Il Fornacino is a good restaurant that would be the best restaurant around in most places, but the five-star bar is set pretty high in Tuscany. But the prices were very modest and the wine selection was great. It's a tremendously good value for what it offers.

Walter uses seasonal product sourced in the local area many producers within a 10 minute radius. The menu is constantly changing according to product availability. He then prepares them perfectly being a master chef in the area for decades !! Most of the restaurant customers are locals and therefore it doesn't close for the season like many in the area. We lost track of them when they began a new restaurant, but by luck found them again, this time in Sant' Albino, just south of Montepulciano. We've eaten there twice this week. The restaurant is warm and welcoming inside, and the food is as perfectly delicious as ever. This is not a place to breeze through, because everything is made fresh for you, and the owners pride themselves in making only the best. Massimo makes the savory foods, and Francois the desserts. The service was next level: from the giant glass of digestif presented to my father-in-law for his birthday to the round of complimentary desserts and limoncello, the service was full of joy! As we left, our server was sharing some personal tales with us. He really bonded with my father-in-law and ended up gifting him a bottle of wine that had familial significance/connection between us! We were so grateful for this special experience and have the signed bottle sitting out still today.
