    Uneven, hair pulled from the back to the side

    **Extra Long Post** I don't usually complain. Most of the time when I'm wronged I take it on the chin. Recently however I was taken advantage of by a local business owner and after my attempts for them to right them, I have no choice but to complain in this setting. On 30 Jan 2024, I went to For the Total You Salon in Bel Air for some style advice and possibly a cut to shape my long curly hair. When I arrived there was no-one at the salon, as I walked back to my car a woman flagged me down explaining it was her shop and that her appt had cancelled so she had time to chat about my hair. She was friendly, knowledgeable touting her 30 years of experience in Bel Air. I had explained to her my previous experiences with other local establishments and how I was always charged for the length and thickness of my hair and that most often times I left unsatisfied and stung by the cost. As we spoke I became comfortable that she understood what I was looking for and my plight from previous experiences. She showed me some styles, I told her of musings of color for my hair but explained color is tricky because I'm a Service Member. She asked if I wanted to not look so old (because of my grey) to which I replied how I didn't care about considering so many who hadn't made it as far. She laughed it off and we continued chatting. She initially quoted me $595 dollars for my hair. Extraordinary. I told her that was far too much for a mom of two and that I'd feel guilty for spending that much on myself. She gave me alternatives and we proceeded with the service. She washed my hair and told me she was adding a gloss/demi color and explained that it was not permanent. Once washed she began to cut my wet hair. At some point there was a pause, then the suggestion to dry my hair and touch up the parts that needed it to ensure that the cut was good both straight and curly. My hair did have shine and on its face was pretty straightened. It had been styled wavy and was generally ok. I could see layers had been cut in but thought the severe difference in length was due to the wavy style.I was photographed and quoted $471. I was told $375 previously. I had been in the for a couple hours salon and tipped her $40 for her time. I left the salon. The more I looked at my hair the less I liked it and the more it seemed to be unevenly cut. I wanted to be fair since I hadnt my hair styled this way before and thought I'd give it the weekend and a wash to see if I truly didn't like it. I waited til Monday, washed my hair and that's when I discovered how badly my hair had been cut. I attempted to reach out to the owner Cheryl Williams to explain my concerns and to ask to be refunded. After searching on her page I found several very similar accounts to mine. When I spoke to a friend, they said "...and she charged you a car payment for your hair, didn't she". After several attempts I was able to reach her over Facebook. On 01 Feb, she insisted that she be allowed to "fix my hair" after my requests to be reimbursed, and insulted my womanhood for connecting over Facebook (the only number available on her website offers a landline). After being told that I was not woman enough to speak to her directly I told her I was on the way to her salon that moment. She was not there due to an emergency at her home. She didn't get back to me about my hair until 02 February 2024. I was waiting outside her shop that morning at 0800 and sent her a message asking when I could come by, she told me 1000. When I got there she had other customers and talked over them about her perception of what had transpired. When I got in the chair, she acknowledged that she could see what I was talking about "girl, your shrinkage is real" and "I just don't know why it looks like that when YOU style it" but again that she's seeing what I am. She then attempted to show me by pulling my hair towards the front of my face so that I could see that it was in fact evenly cut. She cut my hair again to get the pieces she thought she'd missed, wet my hair, two straight rowed it and sat me under the dryer as she worked two other clients. Trying to maintain professionalism and respect for her business I told her I understood that since she had used "a color treatment/gloss" in my hair that I would not ask for that portion of my payment back or for the tip considering the time it took for her do my hair, but respectfully requested the remainder of the services to be refunded considering that I wasn't satisfied and that I'd have to go to another salon to have my hair fixed. She told me the refund would be between $75-100 because of the length of my hair (can't make this crap up). I was then told I'd be refunded for $75. (Which has not posted to my acct to date) I was told the gloss treatment was $195. Beyond the tip, and the $75, there remains another $161 that has not been refunded nor accounted for. PSA steer clear of this establishment.

    I give the owner stylist five stars because, I've had many colors in my hair, including Blonde and I've never had breakage. I've been using Cheryl for 21 years, I travel 21 miles weekly because i know my hair is in good hands. her color and her products that she uses on your hair is for your type of hair. I use to go to someone who used the same of shampoo on all the clients hair regardless of the texture. when she colors my hair it's never dull it is never bland....when i leave the salon my hair is bouncy, curly, healthy looking. the best thing about my travels to Cheryl is when i leave there i don't go home and have to redo my hair......thank you for 21 years of health hair.

    Excellent Master Stylist. However, you never know what you are paying for. It's always sprung on you. Too expensive.

    Needs to go out of business, the way she rips people off. She charges high end prices, and that's not even a high end location.

The private room was very calming and relaxing while having my facial and I felt very relaxed when I left. Negatives: the facial itself didn't yield any results for me. UPDATE: Two weeks later and my skin is breaking out like crazy and peeling in some places. I have texture where I didn't have it before. It looks worse than before I went. I got them done for my engagement photos & I was so pleased with the outcome I booked another appointment before my vacation. I will say that the pricing is average or a little above average, but you definitely get what you pay for. I think the overall atmosphere of the beauty bar adds a more upscale feel and makes getting pampered more of a treat. I will definitely make this my new go to nail salon in Bel Air!

The spa is on the second level and as you are going up the stairs you can hear slow, relaxing music playing. I love that the setting for this spa is in a house because it makes it feel much more homey and relaxing. The "trendy" spas seem too busy with people rushing around and I can't fully relax. The atmosphere here is very calm and soothing and definitely made my massage more enjoyable. Roseanne was my masseuse and she was very friendly. While I was filling out the initial visit form, she introduced herself and offered me a cup of water. She took me to the room and we talked about what areas I would like her to focus on and then she stepped out so I could get undressed. The next hour was completely wonderful and relaxing. Roseanne concentrated on my upper back and lightly touched upon other areas, just as I requested. After the hour was over, Roseanne left the room and I got dressed and met her back in the main waiting room where she gave me another cup of water. We chit chatted for a few minutes and then I left and felt so rejuvenated. I would definitely return for another massage :)

He was gentle yet thorough-- didn't scrub or exfoliate my life away but removed everything that needed to be removed. Wish they were a bit more friendly but otherwise, excellent pedicure at just the time I needed it in a clean and sanitary environment. I'd return when I'm in the area!
