I am sold on this salon and my new stylist Lia... The salon itself has a trendy appeal to it.. although tucked away in a rinky dink shopping center in the Bel Air area. The venue & vibe is professional w/ a hint of Luxe. Love my stylist Lia. Lia has an amazing bubbly personality and she always works with me. I have problem hair!! so this is probably as good as these reviews go. Lia cut my natural hair in a cute pixie w a bit of edge and styled. Lia is talented, I've had my share of hair issues and she always does her thing and I'm happy. This stylist thing is a process for us AA women. I decided to Ride Out with Lia.. Let her learn what I like and don't like... As for the Owner-Cheryl Williams.. I think she is very professional and all around great person. Was a bit taken aback about the comments I saw prior to trying this salon. I will add, if you don't like something, let it be known.. My second apt I didn't really like the color, miss communication. CheryI Williams stepped in, and made it her personal business to fix. I did not see eyes rolling.. I felt genuine concern at my unhappiness... They redid it and I left satisfied. On my third appt.. Cheryl said the color was free. Fist Pump!! I gotta give credit where it's due. By far a professional establishment, talented stylists...AA Business owner On The Move. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!!!!!!! I NEVER write reviews. Usually if I have a bad experience, I will consider it a lesson learned and move on. I debated on whether or not I wanted to post this review, but I feel like there is no choice. People should not be allowed to continue getting away with such despicable practices. I went to this salon and spoke to the owner Cheryl to find out if she would be able to do a sew in on my hair, as I have alopecia with thinning on the top. We talked about options and what looks I was interested in. Note, this would be my first experience with a sew in so I had no prior reference point to start from or experience. After discussing the options and I settled on the look I wanted, I made an appointment for the following Friday. Cheryl said she needed to order the hair and to call her back Tuesday to confirm she had received it to be able to proceed with Friday's appointment. I confirmed Tuesday and showed up Friday for my appointment. After arriving, she showed me the hair and proceeded with the service. At no time during the consultation, during our phone call or prior to her washing and clipping my ends did she tell me what the cost would be. I initially thought I would be getting crochets and not a sew-in which I had seen those prices on the website. I will take responsibility on myself for next asking prior. With that said, after she washed and cut my hair, she said, did I tell you how much it will cost. I told her no, that she had not told me what the price was. While under the dryer, she proceeded to pull up figures on my phone where she want to charge me in excess of $1,000 for this service. I was shocked and explained to her that I would not be paying that amount and that I would pay for the hair and the cut and leave. She began to try to negotiate with me by telling me I could do a payment plan. I explained that I was not going to pay that and that I would pay $500. Again, my bad since I had not prior experience with sew-ins and how much the service would be; however, she stated she had paid about $200 for the hair, so that means you want to charge me over $800 to install it???? I told her that I would be willing to pay her $500 and she asked if I could pay $600. Stupidly, I accepted and paid that amount, but after getting home and speaking friends and family who have had sew-ins, I realized I still overpaid. Also, after consulting with another stylist, they pointed out the issues and stated it was not a good job. On top of the fact that I asked for closure, she did a leave out and tried to convince me that if I curled my hair, it would be cute but the texture of the hair installed no where near matched my hair texture which is why I knew I needed a closure. The only thing I can call this type of business is ENTRAPMENT!!!! I believe she purposely did not tell me how much the service would be to try to get as much out of me that she could. It should have been a red flag that she has a beautiful modern salon with at least six chairs which were all empty on a Saturday morning except for one other stylist. **Extra Long Post** I don't usually complain. Most of the time when I'm wronged I take it on the chin. Recently however I was taken advantage of by a local business owner and after my attempts for them to right them, I have no choice but to complain in this setting. On 30 Jan 2024, I went to For the Total You Salon in Bel Air for some style advice and possibly a cut to shape my long curly hair. When I arrived there was no-one at the salon, as I walked back to my car a woman flagged me down explaining it was her shop and that her appt had cancelled so she had time to chat about my hair. She was friendly, knowledgeable touting her 30 years of experience in Bel Air. I had explained to her my previous experiences with other local establishments and how I was always charged for the length and thickness of my hair and that most often times I left unsatisfied and stung by the cost. As we spoke I became comfortable that she understood what I was looking for and my plight from previous experiences. She showed me some styles, I told her of musings of color for my hair but explained color is tricky because I'm a Service Member. She asked if I wanted to not look so old (because of my grey) to which I replied how I didn't care about considering so many who hadn't made it as far. She laughed it off and we continued chatting. She initially quoted me $595 dollars for my hair. Extraordinary. I told her that was far too much for a mom of two and that I'd feel guilty for spending that much on myself. She gave me alternatives and we proceeded with the service. She washed my hair and told me she was adding a gloss/demi color and explained that it was not permanent. Once washed she began to cut my wet hair. At some point there was a pause, then the suggestion to dry my hair and touch up the parts that needed it to ensure that the cut was good both straight and curly. My hair did have shine and on its face was pretty straightened. It had been styled wavy and was generally ok. I could see layers had been cut in but thought the severe difference in length was due to the wavy style.I was photographed and quoted $471. I was told $375 previously. I had been in the for a couple hours salon and tipped her $40 for her time. I left the salon. The more I looked at my hair the less I liked it and the more it seemed to be unevenly cut. I wanted to be fair since I hadnt my hair styled this way before and thought I'd give it the weekend and a wash to see if I truly didn't like it. I waited til Monday, washed my hair and that's when I discovered how badly my hair had been cut. I attempted to reach out to the owner Cheryl Williams to explain my concerns and to ask to be refunded. After searching on her page I found several very similar accounts to mine. When I spoke to a friend, they said "...and she charged you a car payment for your hair, didn't she". After several attempts I was able to reach her over Facebook. On 01 Feb, she insisted that she be allowed to "fix my hair" after my requests to be reimbursed, and insulted my womanhood for connecting over Facebook (the only number available on her website offers a landline). After being told that I was not woman enough to speak to her directly I told her I was on the way to her salon that moment. She was not there due to an emergency at her home. She didn't get back to me about my hair until 02 February 2024. I was waiting outside her shop that morning at 0800 and sent her a message asking when I could come by, she told me 1000. When I got there she had other customers and talked over them about her perception of what had transpired. When I got in the chair, she acknowledged that she could see what I was talking about "girl, your shrinkage is real" and "I just don't know why it looks like that when YOU style it" but again that she's seeing what I am. She then attempted to show me by pulling my hair towards the front of my face so that I could see that it was in fact evenly cut. She cut my hair again to get the pieces she thought she'd missed, wet my hair, two straight rowed it and sat me under the dryer as she worked two other clients. Trying to maintain professionalism and respect for her business I told her I understood that since she had used "a color treatment/gloss" in my hair that I would not ask for that portion of my payment back or for the tip considering the time it took for her do my hair, but respectfully requested the remainder of the services to be refunded considering that I wasn't satisfied and that I'd have to go to another salon to have my hair fixed. She told me the refund would be between $75-100 because of the length of my hair (can't make this crap up). I was then told I'd be refunded for $75. (Which has not posted to my acct to date) I was told the gloss treatment was $195. Beyond the tip, and the $75, there remains another $161 that has not been refunded nor accounted for. Needed my hair done and didn't feel like doing it myself. I am new to the area and finding a new salon is a little hard. I found this salon on the internet and decided to call. I asked about how much a flat iron/wash/condition was but the woman on the phone said that they didn't discuss prices over the phone. I thought that was a little bit weird esp for a salon. A price list should be standard. It was pretty crowded. When I arrived and went over to the sink immediately to get my hair washed. The woman washing my hair was a little rough with my scalp!! After I went had my hair washed I went to sit under the dryer. When I finally got in the chair it was it was about an hour and half from when I arrived. The stylist did a great job. And my hair lasted for about 2 weeks. Only thing they are too expensive $65 for just wash and flat iron! read more

There is a reason that Cheryl (owner) does not have any employees working under her. She is a money hungry scam artist- charging people car payments basically for a partial highlight. Her website says she will consult with you about pricing beforehand but she DOES not. I went In for a face frame and trim and she talked me into partial highlights which was the worst mistake and I so regret saying yes. I have no idea how she is still in business when she basically makes up pricing as she goes. She charged me well over 500 for a trim and partial highlights ( I did not consult or agree to this). I have no idea how much the product was I purchased because she told me it would not allow her to put it in her system so I'm sure she made the price up on that. It's a shame that in an industry like this where we are supposed to just make women feel beautiful all she cares about is scamming people out of money. She turned my hair green and then wanted me to come back in and get it fixed. I asked for a refund or told her I was going to dispute it and she ignored that completely. I was looking for a new stylist, that's how I came about going this salon and Cheryl did my hair. It's okay - really nothing special as it was just a plain haircut without any styling. She did not even give me a shampoo, so no blow dry, of course, so it was a "sprit - sprit - cut" out in 30 minutes, of which 20 minutes was wait time as she was chatting with someone else, but I paid a lot for all that 10 minute service - $85 dollars. read more

I give the owner stylist five stars because, I've had many colors in my hair, including Blonde and I've never had breakage. I've been using Cheryl for 21 years, I travel 21 miles weekly because i know my hair is in good hands. her color and her products that she uses on your hair is for your type of hair. I use to go to someone who used the same of shampoo on all the clients hair regardless of the texture. when she colors my hair it's never dull it is never bland....when i leave the salon my hair is bouncy, curly, healthy looking. the best thing about my travels to Cheryl is when i leave there i don't go home and have to redo my hair......thank you for 21 years of health hair. read more

The owner suggested color so I agreed not knowing that I'd be charged over $400 just for the coloring! I thought it was regular hair dye. She never mentioned prices or what products she was using. My total bill was $565!!! I am NOT exaggerating. There were 3 separate charges on the invoice related to coloring ($100, $110 and $225). I felt disrespected and taken advantage of. She offered to wash and condition my hair on the house but that doesn't make up for her willingness to ride customers. I simply won't ever go back or recommend her to others. I was a client more than 10 years ago when I resided in the area based on a colleague's recommendation. She was and still is an excellent stylist. The color correction performed this time and the first time I came into the salon was the best bar none (even in NY). The salon is clean, pleasant and the location has lots of free parking. Online booking is convenient. However, I had difficulty cancelling appointments ... so it might be best to follow up with a phone call/text. The price for services is not listed on the web page or I wasn't able to find it. Although the priciest I've ever experienced (even in NY) for a basic haircut, wash style and set, it was miraculous! Even with the deep conditioner, $125 was well out of my beauty budget. The first color correction with cut wash and set was $400. I always leave with a smile, a healthier head of hair and a style that inspires confidence. The only reason I could not give 5 stars was that she was more than 15 minutes late for both appointments (5 am). Maybe a later start would be easier for everyone. Be sure to get a price for the service you've requested or services that are recommended for you before you come to the salon as it may be higher than your previous salon experience. If I win the lottery or really need that special look for a special occasion, this is the only place I would go. She is a master stylist and this is an awesome one-woman operation (lots of personal attention and a fantastic consultation) -- it is well worth the cost for the result. read more

AWFUL BUSINESS, I'm 19years old and on my birthday she charged me $500 in the end when all I asked for was a texturizer & she told me that all the things that SHE wanted to do to my hair caused the price to be $500 in which she wouldn't tell me in the end although I asked multiple times. She's the worst person I've ever met in my life & I would never recommend a dog to go there. I couldn't enjoy my birthday the next day because she took all of my savings. Once I find that stylist; I will remain loyal. My stylist is just not a stylist, but she is and will always be consider a friend. Please believe the poor reviews for this salon. I wish I could share the full picture of what was installed in my hair when I requested Havana Twists. Please do not go to this Salon. Please do not support Cheryl's business. I wanted to support this business because it's a black owned business, despite the awful attitude I received and the complaints about price gouging. I have never written a poor review for black owned business, but Cheryl shouldn't get the opportunity to treat anyone else the way she treated me. The twists that were installed in my head were a mix between poorly constructed braids and poorly constructed twists. I mean full braided plats in my hair despite the fact that I asked for twists. When I complained she insisted that I was at fault because of the type of extensions I brought despite the fact that she ok'd the extensions in a written email. When I told her this wasn't the hairstyle I asked for, she told me she had to mix braids with my twists because my hair was too "coarse" for twists. When I asked if she would redo my hair with the correct hair, since she ok'd the wrong extensions in the first place and did not give me the style I requested, she said she would have to charge me the entire cost of the hairstyle again. Despite the fact that she never did the hair style requested in the first place. She also rejected a request for a discount on the poorly constructed twists even though she clearly knew she had messed up. So, to try to rectify the problem, she stepped away from two clients without explaining anything to the clients and began to try to twist what was braided in my hair. She twisted some of the braided plaits, but not all of them insisting that the plaits stay plaits because of my coarse hair. This is my first time ever giving any hair stylist a poor review. I have been to many stylists and have dealt with a lot. However, I have never experienced such flagrant lack of integrity and dismissal customer service in my life. I was reluctant to try the salon because of all the bad reviews but figured I would give it a chance for my 10-year-old. We went in December to get a texturizer. I was stunned after her hair was relaxed and blow dried trimmed and straightened to come to the cash register and be charged $220. I ask why and was told because of the gloss she put on that I had never asked for but I paid and tipped $30 as she assured me that next time it would not cost that much. Fast forward to yesterday A touchup on my 10 year old child cost $195 again I ask why and this time was told because of the deep conditioning. Even on her website it states children's relaxers are like $70 so it seems as if she is charging full price for a 10 year old and then some. Please believe all the reviews of the extreme price gouging as well as not so friendly atmosphere . My daughter was in tears in the car and she just turned 10 because of how much heat was close to her scalp and she has been burned before, yet even then she wasn't in tears. I would not say her work is bad but it is definitely not wonderful. There is nothing that justifies these astronomical prices. read more

Cheryl has been my stylist for years. She does a FANTASTIC job with cuts and color AND gives the perfect scalp massage. There is noone I recommend besides her in the northern Maryland area! You can expect awesome professional products, a priority for healthy hair, and a beautiful environment to enjoy your services. I tried this salon twice because I am a firm believer in second chances, and the actual result was great. However, she overcharges and adds fees in depending upon what she is in need of that day. I received a silk press for medium natural hair which general runs around $50-$70 dollars. The first time I asked for a wrap which was listed $50 on the site, she gave me a silk press and treatment which she charged me $80 for. The second time I came in I asked for the silk press since I knew exactly how much it was from my last visit. This time when she finished she charged me $165, which is over double what she charged me the last time for the same services. I will not be back. read more

I have been going to this salon for the past several years. In 2007, I was new to the area and needed to find a salon. This is the first salon that I found to be concerned with total hair care including the scalp. My scalp is really dry and Cheryl has done a good job keeping it under control. My hair has also grown past my shoulders under her care. On another note, Cheryl and her staff aren't going to put any extra chemicals in your hair if it is going to hurt your hair. I have heard her turn down customers that wanted to get a relaxer too soon. This to me says a lot about her character. She's worried about the healthiness of your hair. At times, the salon does get busy. When this happens, Cheryl and her staff do not rush through but try to give everyone the same amount of attention. She wants her customers to be happy. There are some days during the week when the salon isn't as busy. All a customer has to do is ask. As far as prices go, I believe her prices are comparable to other experienced salons. Try going to a salon within the DC, MD, and VA areas; I don't think the prices will vary much. If you're looking for a salon. I recommend giving her salon a try and then making an informed decision for yourself. read more

Horrible experience with a full weave service on 13 September 2017. I paid Cheryl Williams $225 for the service and gave her the recommended tip that she pushed into my face! At first I thought she had done a great job until I was told by that a person, she could see straight through my scalp. I did feel my hair or look at the top of my head, I trusted that everything was okay. I found out within an hour that it was not! I called Cheryl immediately to let her know that a hair stylist that happened to be in Walmart saw the imperfections, I was totally embarrassed and felt duped! Cheryl tried to blame me and the lady that showed me the gaps in the weaving and the messed up closure. Cheryl said that the lady was being mean by showing me the mistakes! I sent Cheryl a picture, she told me to come back over later! I was so upset that I could not go back until the next day. After speaking with two hair stylists who happened to be at Walmart, they told me that she overcharged me (the going rate is usually 170$) and she totally messed up my foundation. I asked one of the stylist if she could at least fix the loose section, she did it for $40, so that was another expense. The next day, I went to see Cheryl, she acted as if she was happy to see me! I asked her to take the weave out and at least give me half my money back, I was highly unsatisfied and disappointed with her professional debacle. I looked her personal review (from her friends), she maybe can do everything but WEAVE! So please Ms. Cheryl Williams stop taking people money, if you know you cannot provide the service. Evidently, you must needed my $225 so badly, that you were willingly to loose a customer and future customers, because I will continue to share this bad experience with others. The woman I booked with in the salon was nice enough and very accommodating when I needed a last-minute sew-in. The shampoo and conditioning were fine, but I should've known something was up when she put me to work threading needles before starting to install the tracks. The quality of the job was nowhere close in value to the time I spent in the salon and the money I paid. I wish she'd just admitted she was not that experienced with sew-ins and sent me on my way. The job was really poorly done, though it looked and felt fine when I left. I have only had a few sew-ins before this one, so I didn't really question her process. But a week later, I was at another salon consulting them about it because I thought it was odd how quickly the braids loosened up and how lumpy my ponytails looked. I couldn't wear it down and the ponytail was puny, so I was left with a messy bun or half up and half down. The consulting stylist showed me photos of the work done from the back and could fit multiple fingers under the braids. She was surprised to find the original stylist had done just 5 fat braids, sloppily sewed a ridge in the back to tie down the ends, applied unnecessary netting, left out WAY more than I explained I needed, and not even used all of the bundles in the pack I brought. This other salon took pity on me, squeezing me in that day and giving me a discount on the removal and installation. I was fine with the occasional breaks to eat and do quick preliminary work on another client, but I do not plan to return to this salon. In order to be fully honest about what I saw while there, though, I can say that the other customers who came through while I was in the chair came in and left very happy with their less complicated services. The interior of the salon is tidy (though there are some little areas being renovated) and there's plenty of parking in the shopping center where it's located. I think had I not seen other clients leaving happy with their experiences, I'd give it a single star. read more

Cheryl went on to tell me how damage and overprocessed my hair was, when in fact my hair has been naturai for ten years. For the total you should be For the Total Screw up. Cheryl Williams is suppose to be an educator of hair, but has no knowledge of natural products for ones hair. To be an educator and professional in the field of hair care, there is no need to chop up a customer hair without discussing what the customer wants or to ensure her clients are happy customers. I witness another client's dye was cut out of her hair,.Cheryl re-dyed the top of her hair....I wonder if the client was charged for the total screw up of the professional educator. Cheryl Williams doesn't know the difference from a hair cut vs. a hair trim.. Will never vist For the Total You again. I gave this shop a two star rating because the shop was nice and clean.
