Super cool cafe that also sells vinyl records! The music they were playing was really nice, it wasn't too busy inside, vibes were great overall. The flat white I had was great, milk was micro foamed properly so it was velvety, and the espresso was pulled well - floral and chocolatey and well-extracted, no bitterness or sourness at all. Give it a shot!

Great coffee shop in Greenpoint! They sell a bunch of vinyls, which you can easily browse through at the back of the place. The main thing I like about the place is how they utilize their space to host community events! My first time visiting was actually for a stand up comedy show. My 2nd time here was during their 1 year anniversary event (where they played good music and had some local vendors). The owner is super friendly and down to earth. Drinks: I got an Oat Latte and it was really good. My friend got their Lavender Latte and they really enjoyed it as well. I have also gotten their Kombucha in the past which was also amazing! I would definitely recommend checking this place out and coming out to their events.

Came here with my sister who lives around the corner and loves this place. The barista was super friendly and knew her order which made ordering really fast. I got an iced coffee with caramel and cream, and it was pretty good- the syrup was the perfect amount of sweetness and had good flavor and the coffee was pretty strong! The pastries are REALLY good! The chocolate croissant and apple tart were the best. My sister also likes the lemon loaf. I would definitely come back!!

Vintage. Vibes. Vinyls. Very friendly staff. Very cool cafe worth visiting to catch up on work, hang out with friends, or simply enjoy a solo treat. Iced americano was great. Greenpoint's gem for sure!

In 140 characters or less: Solid coffee and pastries all housed in a thoughtfully designed space that also sells records. For the Record is a new cafe concept in Greenpoint -- the owner is a native New Yorker and was really friendly when we came in during their soft opening. They roast their own beans and the coffee is worth making this your neighborhood spot. Their iced coffee is great and while their espresso could be a bit more flavorful my cappuccino was still good. They have a limited pastry selection from a local bakery and includes your usual assortment of croissants, chocolate chip cookies, and muffins. There are a few gluten free and vegan options. The space is really bright, large, and beautifully decorated with plenty of space to sit and work or meet up with a friend. Sick of the usual coffeehouse beats? The store gets its name by playing records on rotation, with the record player hooked up to a sound system. The store also sells a wide array of records and succulents in the back. What better way to kick off your morning than with a cup of coffee and almond croissant and then browsing through a carefully selected collection of records!

This is a great neighborhood coffee shop. Nice staff and great coffe. As a wonderful bonus, they have a great collection of mostly vintage vinyl. First time I've see 2 of The Monkeys albums. They have such a diverse selection they have a "no way" Ricky Martin & Christina Aguilera Christmas album!

For the Record is a great coffee shop with a friendly atmosphere, blending two of my favorite things, coffee and vinyl. I've been only a few times so far but I plan to make this a regular weekend stop.

Warning: Controversial opinion ahead…read more For the number of stores it has and its position in the music world, New York is shockingly bad when it comes to record shopping. I don't get why you people pay obscene amounts of money for records, especially when they're in terrible condition. I've been to A-1, Academy, Human Head, Superior Elevation, and others, but I haven't been impressed. Although I don't enjoy living in DC (I am moving soon), record shopping in the District is wonderful. I regularly find rare records for half the cost (if not cheaper) than I would in New York. I also have far less competition. However, Brooklyn Record Exchange is one of the few shops I can wholeheartedly recommend. I went to the smaller location in Greenpoint, which is beautiful: clean, stylish, and well-organized with plenty of rarities in excellent condition. You can tell this shop is run by someone with a discerning eye. I immediately spotted Stockhausen's "Hymnen", compilations of musique concrete, hard-to-find early Nicolas Jaar and Ricardo Villalobos, and a duophonic copy of "Pet Sounds" that sounded like angels singing on one of two high-quality listening stations BRE provides with Technics turntables, Sennheiser (!) headphones, and a Bellari pre-amp. I bought "Pet Sounds," the Stockhausen, and an astonishing 2011 repress of Slowdive's "Just for a Day" that pummeled me with its wall of sound. Everything was fairly priced. The dude working the counter was super friendly and helpful. I also went to BRE's larger outpost in Bushwick. I found OG pressings of Radiohead's "Hail to the Thief" and Chavez's "Gone Glimmering." The electronic/house/techno sections are substantial. Still, I prefer the Greenpoint location on Guernsey Street for its immaculate curation and tasteful, minimal decor. These people don't mess around; the shops reflect a TON of work. BRE places a premium on the customer experience. Their stores are designed to spend hours in. Bring your cash to these good folks.
