This is probably the best record store I have seen in Brooklyn. I have been to about six or seven of the more popular shops in Brooklyn this past month. And this was the best experience so far. Fantastic collection of reggae, soul, hip hop and rock. Prices are great as well--super competitive. They also have a listening station, which is always convenient. I find that I buy more LPs when I can preview them before purchasing. Their stock is well organized. It is a smaller sized store, but I easily spent two hours looking through everything, including their 45s. I saw a few locals walk in so it felt like a cool neighborhood spot. The shop is definitely worth the trip down to Prospect Lefferts Gardens. It is not too far from the subway or park either. read more

Great selection although they tend to over charge. However they are always closed! It's almost like they don't want your business. More then once now I came in at the end of their ridiculously early closing time and was basically hustled out. read more

This is a very special record shop. The pricing is the best I've ever seen in the city. This goes to the heart of the owner's (with whom I've had a conversation) philosophy: Be a human to vinyl collectors/fans. There is ZERO pretension or pressure from staff or owner. Just feels like digging through crates in your own living room. Selection is amazing for all genres. Feels very un-picked through in terms of what they have. Worth the trip down the Q/B train. 100% plus plenty of bars and food options on Flatbush right by the store if you want to make an afternoon of it. Only been to Record City a few times, but from the first moment I walked in I was treated like a long time customer. Bottom line, it's an honest and no BS record shop with crazy good selections and wonderful staff/owner. New favorite shop. read more

I've visited this shop a few times and had an excellent experiences. The guy behind the counter knows his records. He was patient and helpful. I was looking for a song I'd heard at a DJ set. While he didn't have that particular Lee Scratch Perry album, he directed me to some related stuff. Maybe my favorite part of the shop is the listening station. I got to listen to a few cuts before committing. The store has a huge reggae selection including a whole table of '45's. I got a couple of Jazz Lp's and some hip hop as well. I was looking all over Brooklyn for Michael Jackson's first album and look where I found it. Right here at Record City. There are variety of music genres one can choose from. They have Jazz, Reggae, Soul, Rock, Soft Rock, Old school HipHop etc. Prices are great too, I found a few records for $1. I was lucky to get a few Elton John's for that price. I bought two Beatles for $5 and $10. When im there im usually in the Soul/R&B and Soft Rock section. I sometime look through the new arrival box to see what they have avaliable. I really didnt want to give a review for this spot because I didnt want other people finding my hidden gem. In order for this business to thrive it is only fair that I share. read more

Absolutely top notch selection of vintage/used soul, rock, house, techno, reggae records. Ian has an awesome sense for curating the collection, and has always been great to me with recommendations when I've gone in. I try to go every week and get there early to see what's new, it's always changing. In all honesty, I've avoided giving a good review for the last few months because I didn't want everyone to find out about this place and have competition for getting the best stuff, but...it's really an excellent place. So get there soon and check it out! Thanks to Ian for the help and Salaam for being great! I love that they stay open until 8 on the weekdays. My only beef is that I wish it opened at 11 on the weekends. I live in the neighborhood so it's not that big of a deal, but it would be nice to jam by earlier on sat/sun. read more

Awesome vinyl collection. I snagged some rock classics (Beatles, Clapton, Simon & Garfunkel, Mamas and Papas) in the $1 and $2 section and they were decent quality. The store leans towards reggae and soul (understandably, as the neighborhood has a strong Caribbean demographic) so if that's what you are looking for it would probably be the perfect place. Also had a decent collection of local artists. Staff was friendly and helpful. read more

Awesome record store in a really cool part of Brooklyn. Ended up picking up an original Beatles record (Magical Mystery Tour) but could have grabbed a few more. I'll have to wait for my next visit. Ian was super helpful and helped me discover some awesome new reggae, hip-hop and funk. They have a great jazz collection as well. Finally bought a record player, so I can now actually shop here. This place is great. Quiet, so far, and easy to browse without interruption. I get anxious at record stores with too many people and I end up leaving without buying anything. Found some great stuff in the $1 section. Will be back soon. read more
