When you have an altar for Selena (the one and only), a velvet Dolly Parton poster, a bunch of Mexico old school film posters on the back wall of the "register" I know that I've come to the right place. On my other side I noticed a gritty photo of a couple bathroom stalls. I asked Brandon (working at the register) if it was the Mars Bar. He mentioned it was actually "Death by Audio". I guess he used to work there and he was in the documentary. No need to ask and embarrass yourself. I did that part for you. If you don't know, Death by Audio was "THE" DIY venue in Brooklyn for many years. RIP As I passed the wall of tapes, the eighties WF video game, I reached the records. This collection felt so close to me. I'm Mexican and I found myself right in front of the Tito Puente records. I really couldn't resist. This is the kind of album that is great on vinyl. I asked if I could use the record player to listen to the "Dance Mania" album. Brandon stated that if the record is not sealed then I'm able to give it a listen to. It was perfect. I had to break my no shopping rule and get the record. As I continued to peruse there was classic kraut rock "CAN" and old teen faves like Nirvana and the Cramps! I adored the fact that they had an old school Goblin album that I was drooling over! This place is incredibly dangerous to my wallet but makes my heart pitter patter! I'm so happy that I found this little Ridgewood record store. I like lazy Sundays and I can see a record store visit on a said Sunday. I'm so dismayed by the BS smear by the reviewer Patrick K. Who gave Deep Cut records a 1 star review. I've had nothing short of amazing digs here at my local record store (2 min away); and found things I never knew I wanted on vinyl to boot. First off, the owner and all of the staff I've met are knowledgeable, warm, and have excellent taste with what they play inside the store. I recall having a fond conversation with Matt when he heard me blasting the Yamatsuka Eye side project, Audio Sports, from the listening booth before taking it home with me! I also have Deep Cut records to thank for selling me OG copies of Julee Cruise's Floating into the Night which I got signed by Angelo Badalamenti. As the owner mentioned they are a small business, but a special one I hold dear to my heart. I still cherish my mireille mathieu and heiner goebbels lps! Love the fact that they also have a handful of hardcore and punk 7 inches which is what I'm usually looking for. Great selection of old school hip hop and soul along with classic rock etc. I'm usually broke and window shopping but the owner is always chill and friendly on the days I don't actually buy anything. read more

A miserable experience! $15 credit card minimum!?!? Ever wonder if they are playing annoying music so you will leave? (It was on before I got there) I put up with an hour of the worst atonal, shrill, random, da-daist, chaos sound collage while figuring out that I only wanted 1 record in the pile of selections I chose. It was hot inside. At the height of the most stressful section of this torment OST a car outside laid on the horn too long and the store clerk went out in the street yelling like a madman. After all this I went to by an $11 record and he says it's $15 card minimum. I could have found an ATM and paid a surcharge but I really couldn't see going out of my way to buy from this place. Out of the 30+ record stores in the NYC area nowhere else has a credit card minimum this high. Really not an ideal environment! read more

This place rules. Every time I've gone, there's been really amazing records for good prices. (One time I got a 2nd pressing 'Not Available' by the Residents in great shape for $15) Plus the dudes who've been at the register when I've gone in have been knowledgable and super helpful. A+. NYC is not the great record store haven people might think it is. BEST SHOP ON THE BLOCK Well, it's the only one on this particular block, but certainly my favorite in ridgewood and one of the best used record stores in the city. Almost always spinning something i haven't heard before that occasionally becomes a favorite. They have a great selection, helpful genre groupings (early 00's, indie, dad rock, etc.), and i rarely leave empty handed. Happy to have Deep Cuts as my neighborhood shop. read more

Worth the trip out from Huntington even in traffic. Found a few things I have been looking for forever (Ween the pod and Rufus Wainwright Want) also they had My Morning Jacket (New stock) which no one can keep in Stock Sometime it pays to go out of the way and do a dig somewhere else. Stopped by this store to kill some time on a long layover at JFK (it's about 20 mins cab ride from the airport) Well worth visiting if you're in Queens or NY, it's a small shop but is very well organized and all of the records there are interesting in some way. It's rare to find a store that doesn't stock "filler records" to take up shelf space, but this store does not. The staff member who sold me my records was also very friendly and helpful. This record store started as an outpost at the local music venue Silent Barn, and caters toward the local music scene as well as eclectic tastes and pop. The store owner Brandon is really awesome! He has a amazing and eclectic selection of record's and a vast knowledge of all kinds of music genres. He isn't a dick like some record store owners, is not pretentious and really likes to help people find new interesting music. During the summer his shop is really cute little cookouts and such. This is actually a review of this seller on Discogs.com. I have not been to this store in person, but since this Brandon guy has gone unresponsive, this is my only recourse. I made an order and there was a snafu in shipping (my fault entirely) that resulted in the package being returned undelivered. He never refunded my payment or resent the items, even after he requested an additional $5 to resend it. Now he's failed to respond to several messages. So I'm out $77 and have no records. I'm sure this kind of thing won't happen if you make a purchase in-store, but do you really want to support a business that's run by such a dishonest person? read more
