I hesitate to guess how many pairs are hanging in this large-but-organized store, but the # must be in the thousands. I actually got into shopping, as I have Family in Boston & the NE, who wear out many pairs each Winter. They were sold out of Patriots socks, so I ordered them online through the NFL site. I have always used Yelp as a place to speak kindly of people who are doing a great job and making people smile. I've posted 20 5-star reviews in the past few years of top notch places with PEOPLE who are making a difference in whatever job they do. My point is I go out of my way to give props to some kind human beings because I believe in the power of positivity. If the owners of For Bare Feet had a card with a phone number or email on it I would've sent them a personal message instead of using Yelp in this fashion, however I feel they should hear this message somehow.... You're staff person working on 2/17/19 at 3:45 PM (cashier 1089) was a detestable human. She was exceptionally rude to my 4 year old son who was playing with stuffed animals on the floor (which were kid reaching level btw) belittling him for "getting my expensive merchandise dirty on the floor!" When I heard the commotion I moved closer to where he was in the store to realize this was not a kind human interaction in any way, shape or form. She was not asking nicely with a smile...She was wicked, with a permanent scowl on her face, wreaking of cigarette smoke and speaking down to him. I was right there at this point and I told her I was sorry he was playing with so many toys at once and he could put a few back while I continued shopping. However she continued to grab the stuffed animals out of his sad little hands and mumble under her stinky breath. My thoughts are that her nasty cigarette smoke was worse on the "expensive merchandise" than anything that could've happened with my kid and a toy stuffed elephant. What happened to store owners and staff who liked children, who understood if a stuffed TOY animal was 4" off the ground that a kid might want to play with it?? Estes Park is a magical place where store owners and their staff have been making our kids and us smile for years. Each store we go in is unique and the best part is when the workers engage with you in a kind manner and are genuinely pleased to teach you something or help you find something. This was not the case at For Bare Feet. We quickly bought our $50 worth of (awesome! This is what got the star) socks and left immediately. As we walked away we all concluded that we would've rather our hard earned money be given to some giant Amazon online corporate monster rather than supporting a local shop that employs people like her. Very sad experience and even more sad that such an unhappy person lives amidst such beauty. Maybe she has a great sense of sarcasm and can tell wicked funny crude jokes at the local bar....go do that lady.... but do not work at a family store in the heart of Estes Park. There are a lot of things we will do over and over again as we keep visiting this beautiful place, but we will NEVER go back to For Bare Feet. read more

Expect novelty socks here. You can put them on your feet. They will not last you a long time, as they aren't outstanding quality... But, hell. You're in Estes Park, doesn't that already mean you plan to spend lots of money for stuff you don't need? Here you can express your personality or obsessions through your feet instead of a bumper sticker. Also, I think they might sell stickers with socks on them if you rather go the opposite direction. I got toe socks. Socks that showcase my love of Boston Terriers. Socks that tell everyone that I like chickens. Socks with stripes. Socks with socks on them. Socks with ugly animals with their mouths open. Soft socks. Warm socks. Kid socks. Shin guard socks. Knee high socks. Ankle socks. And some other socks that were dumb, so I wanted them. No hand socks here, though. You'd want a novelty glove store for that... Yes, it's expensive here. Yes, some of the socks fall apart and get holes in them, but maybe if you try not to walk around on glass or drag your feet on asphalt they'll last longer than the ones everyone else seems to enjoy posting photos of. Stop complaining, Yelp friends and non-friends. For Bare Feet is just a novelty sock store in Estes Park. I am a sock lover and wanted to love this store too. We were here the evening of 3/29, and were the only people in the store. The person working (I imagine not the owner) did not bother to greet us, look at us, or put her phone down while watching some loud and rather disturbing sounding videos. The gentleman who owns the store is a very congenial guy. He has a huge assortment of most every school, sports Team and Colorado socks. Also many novelty items. They have many themes, including animal socks which is what I was looking for. I have now washed and worn these socks many times and they wear wonderfully. They are nice and thick like I like, stay true to size (women's sz 9 1/2 shoe), and they don't wear out quickly in the heel like many other socks I have. I love these socks. The reason for my 4 out of 5 stars is they are pricey (about $7-8 per pair), but then you do get what you pay for--and that is good quality. For the man looking for sz 14 socks, this town is geared for tourists and things that appeal to the general population. I know from shopping for my Dad's sz 15 feet that it can be difficult to find socks. My recommendation is to use a king size or big mans store, although I have found some extra large socks at one of the chain discount stores. read more

I recently purchased two pair of novelty infant socks for my granddaughter's birthday from For Bare Feet in Estes Park. When I went to Omaha, I found out that she needed the next size bigger, no worries, I would exchange them. My husband and I rode up to Estes on this beautiful day to have lunch and make a simple exchange. I had the socks with me in a brown plastic bag, as I had discarded the store bag and receipt, not thinking that I would need to exchange. I entered the store with the infant sized socks in the bag, chose two pair of the toddler size, and proceeded to the counter to check out. The manager (possibly owner) was at the counter (which, by the way is back into the store 2/3 of the way). I then took out the smaller socks from the bag, and placed them on the counter in her sight, and the two larger sizes on the counter next to them. She looked at me and asked if I had the receipt, to which I replied no, but the socks were in their original packaging. She then told me that she wouldn't exchange them because I had probably put them in my bag off the shelf when I walked in. I was so astounded at what she accused me of, that all I could respond was "Seriously???" She then said that I couldn't imagine how many people come in the store, and that I had probably grabbed them off the rack, i.e. that I had shoplifted them. I have worked retail for 30 years, and was completely taken aback by her accusing me of shoplifting those socks to exchange for the others. I then told her that I had indeed bought the smaller socks, and that I did not shoplift them to exchange. She refused my exchange, and I told her I would never do business there again. In the retail company in which I work in Denver, if I ever accused a guest of shoplifting, I would be fired on the spot, and rightly so. I don't know if it was the fact that I was dressed in my Harley gear, or the fact that I didn't have a receipt or the socks in the store bag that prompted this kind of accusation. This was the WORST customer service experience I have ever had in my life, and I strongly encourage folks not to do business with this store. I know that I never will again! read more
