On a scale of 1-10, you truly are a 25!…read more I've just returned from my 7th year in a row, week-long stay at Arowhon Pines, where perfection is the watchword, where attention to detail is evident at all levels, from the continuous renovations that blend into the environment so well you'd think they'd always been that way, to the lovingly prepared food always with a new twist every year, to the friendly and helpful housekeeping staff, to the hardworking kitchen and dining room staff; to the groundskeepers and maintenance men, whose invisible presence is felt in all the beauty, cleanliness and perfection around the property. Nothing is too much trouble for the approachable yet unobtrusive staff. I ate well, slept well, played well and worked well. Heaven couldn't possibly be more beautiful or more perfect. Coming back is always like coming home to an amazing family. It's my annual pilgrimage for rest, rejuvenation and restoration, while the Arowhon muse helps me write up a storm on my books and blog. Thank you to Theresa, Adam, David, Edward, Erik and everyone for your effective, tireless, welcoming hospitality. I didn't think you could improve on perfection, but you've done it again! On a scale of 1-10, you truly are a 25!

It was delicious and scrumptious. The appetizers and desserts are the highlight for sure - there's sushi, chicken wings, sandwiches, a variety of dips and veggies, soup etc etc. For the entree, you can eat two entrees, so I got the steak and fish. The steak was great but the fish could use more seasoning. The desserts were so great - full selection from mousse to date squares. After the meal, you can sit outside in the balcony and it's truly beautiful. Algonquin Park at its finest. It was definitely one of the best meals I've had this year. We sat for too long and they shut off the lights at around 9:30pm for the main lodge and that was our cue to leave. :)

Couples Resort - Holes in the porch flooring and rot

We slept in one of the lower-floors Master's suites. Overall, we had a lovely time in spite of the April Canadian weather. We spent some time in the hot tub outside, which sits on the balcony facing the lake. We also sat in the jacuzzi, watched some Netflix, lit the fireplace, and used their Algonquin parking pass to do some hiking in the area. The best part was dinner; everything was delicious. The best courses are the entree and dessert. Make sure you go in with an empty stomach and bring your own wine! There is a corkage fee of $20 but it's so much better than purchasing one of theirs. On the flip side, I wished they had just omitted the separate but mandatory parking and firewood fees. I wouldn't have noticed a difference if they jacked up the room price and just hide the parking and firewood fees. When you see those extra items on your bill you feel like they're really penny pinching you, which kind of ruins the overall experience. The in-room coffee fee is also quite ridiculous; $2 per k-cup - are you kidding me? Nonetheless, I would recommend this place to my friends and family and may consider coming back again. I would strongly encourage the owners to get rid of the stupid fees; they really ruin the experience for you when everything else seems so flawless.

Outdated and run down…read more The food was delicious, we love the breakfast room service, but the cabin we stayed in needs some fixing. I wouldn't step on the front porch for fear I'd go thru. We had a terrible smell in the coffee bar area the first night, I'm sure it was a dead something, they took care of it right away! Charging extra for the in room coffee is very cheap! Come on!! The foot stool in our room has seen better days, it was FILTHY! There's old and there's need to be replaced, the patio chair covers are disgustingly dirty and old. I'm sure they're at-least 30 years old. Small details like updating visions and tub stoppers (brown and disintegrated) can go a long way. We had a private parking spot next to our cabin and STILL got charged parking fees. That's a bit ridiculous, for the price everyone pays there is plenty that should be included. Ice to get the park pass for free, we used it daily. I'm not sure I'd recommend to anyone, unless they got it as a gift.

This is a four season resort offering golf, lake front activities like swimming and boating, snow mobiling, and the like, depending on the season of course. We visited during mid-July and enjoyed a wonderful stay with such friendly staff. I cannot stress this point enough - EVERYONE here is just so nice and friendly, to the point where coming from Florida, it took a day or two to get used to. John, the owner, was gracious and always there to help you find something to do in the area or a town or two away. This is a 3 story resort, with a wonderful lobby, a pub with lounge and bar, conference room, a new upcoming spa being built, and a new pool. During our stay, breakfast was available every morning served by the wonderful staff here, and always with a smile. Lunch is on your own, but dinner is served in the restaurant. On most nights, the pub opens for fun and food. One night there we met some nice folks from around the US/Canada on a fishing vacation. Myself, my wife and my daughter were invited over to a table of fine chaps along with John the owner one night (John even bought me a beer - Thanks John) and we chatted for hours about everything while consuming Famous Grouse Scotch whiskey provided by our new friends. Also on site is a lounge area with two pool tables, which we loved. The resort is located just outside the limits of Harcourt, Ontario, and sits between many other small cities which we visited, enjoying nature drives, hikes, local restaurants and bakeries. The resort allows guests the use of a golf cart if you wish to take a cruise around the golf course across the street, or down the road to their lakefront property where swimming and small boats (paddle, canoe, row) are available. This is a somewhat rural location, with the nearest town with services (bank, restaurant, liquor) is about 20 minutes away, so prepare for that. Full service gas stations (petrol) taking credit at the pump are about 35 mins away, but I believe there are some old school pumps with pay-inside just down the road 10 minutes or so. The guestrooms here are different from what you'd expect at a regular motel/hotel....some amenities like iron/ironing board are not in-room, but if you ask they are available - our room did not have hanging closets, but plentiful dresser space was available. WiFi is available in most parts of the resort, basement restaurant and bar may not get a signal...also some far corner rooms may not get signal. There are different types of room, some having suite type setups where there are two bedrooms with a dividing door, HD TV, refrigerators and the like. We had a wonderful corner room with double queens separated into two rooms....which had plenty of space. Our only complaint was that it was an eastern facing room and during the morning and afternoon the sun would heat our room up quite a bit...requiring us to ask for a fan, which mostly solved our issues. It appeared many new improvements are occurring/planned while we were there. New construction was in progress for a new spa, and what appeared to be new a bar in the lower level lounge where the pool tables were. New refrigerators, washing machines and all sorts of improvements were seen. Hopefully John can make this place all he wants it to be - from what we experienced, we were very happy and could not have asked for better staff and better location. On a dark night, we stood outside away from the building and I was able to show my 6 year old daughter satellites in orbit moving across the sky -- it was that dark....awesome....can't get that in Tampa Bay Florida.

Extremely Poor Management and Communication - Avoid This Place…read more We arrived later than expected and tried calling the phone number listed on their website several times -- no one ever answered. When we got there around 8:00 PM, the office was completely dark. A note taped to the front door said we had been assigned rooms 12 and 13, and that the rooms were unlocked. However, when we went to those rooms, they were locked and already occupied. The people inside told us they had been assigned those rooms. We encountered someone who appeared to work in housekeeping, but he didn't speak English and couldn't help us. Fortunately, another guest who overheard the confusion offered to help. He had experienced similar issues and had the owner/manager's personal number. He called -- no answer the first time -- then contacted the restaurant manager, who thankfully spoke English and managed to get us into different rooms. This was a completely unacceptable way to handle guests' arrivals. For two days, the owner/manager avoided speaking with us, claiming over the phone that he wasn't on site -- even though we saw him several times. When we finally did meet, he offered no apology, only excuses about not being able to find staff to keep the office open more than an hour a day. There was no gesture of goodwill, no compensation, and no accountability. We will never stay here again -- and you should think twice before booking.
