I has been going here since 2002 and have never been treated thr way I was today!! I Bought bad ribs and the manager was very rude!! He refunded the cost but the hassle and accusatory and frankly bad attitude towards a customer isnt worth shopping at this location while this manager is there. Great prices on simiar items compared to Safeway, and loooong lines (8-8), due to the self-bagging and that the Hispanic clientele my local store serves buys boatloads of groceries at a time. I absolutely hate coming to this foodmax. No matter when or what time you go here, there is always 20 or less item lane and one lane for 20plus. The lines take forever. They need to hire people so that people don't come in the 20 items or less lane. Shopping doesn't take that long but the lines take more time than the shopping. read more

I love FoodMaxx but today, March 25, at 10:30am at FoodMaxx in Newark California there was just one (1) checkout operating with 15 customers waiting in line. This ruins the whole shopping experience. read more

FoodMaxx is definitely one of the better super markets around. I come here specifically for the produce which is always cheaper, sweeter and better tasting than anything I can get at the bigger chains. You can usually find some good deals on the more exotic fruits like mango and papaya too. FoodMaxx also carries a pretty good mix of ethnic foods (specifically Mexican and Indian) so you can find some tremendous deals on spices here. I also love their baking aisle which is very well stocked. The cashiers here are pretty fast but the lines can get a little long. If you can manage to shop at odd hours (they're open 24-7) you'll be more likely to avoid crowds. There's a small discount if you bring your own bags for bagging. read more

I work in the same plaza as food max so I come here a lot for groceries shopping. I like the idea that you bag your groceries. But their service is very slow, and they don't open many registers. Usually 1 register was open at a time, sometimes 2, you will always see long lines. I sometimes come in and walk out right away because of the long line at the register. read more

Best place to shop for groceries (if you are not looking for organic produce). They always have their shelves stocked with fresh produce, cereal, and spices - and all with reasonable prices! There is also tons of parking available. Paper bags are 10 cents. Lines tend to be slow, especially in the evenings and on Sundays, but that's standard. read more

Not a wide variety of produce, but they had a lot of fruit comparably cheaper than Asian markets! In addition, I was surprised to find chicken breasts cheaper than Costco! The quality was the same except there's a little bit more pieces of fat I had to trim off, but very minimal. Extra lean ground turkey is much more expensive but that goes with most markets outside of Costco. Didn't see much baked goods aside from stale bread. Safeway and Luckys definitely have an advantage there. The Cashier was super friendly & also glad that they're open until midnight. Much less people = no lines read more

In general I like the store. Has lots of variety and what not, but the huge letdown is that the registers are always packed. This isn't just for a one time visit, but every single time I go. I want to emphasize that it's not because of the clerks speed, but there aren't enough. I usually have to wait 10 to 15 minutes. It's a bit ridiculous. I like going here because it's closer to where I live, but I'm thinking that the extra mile at target is a bit better because I don't experience those issues there. read more

Save money and shop Food Maxx in Newark. I give it 4 stars because sometimes some of the produce is on its last day or two of freshness. I don't buy meat there, either. For that, I go to Costco. The store is MUCH cheaper to buy milk, butter, oils, spices and those expensive pantry items. They may not have a specific brand of something, but the house brands seem to be just fine. Really try it just once, and you'll see just how much money you can save. The fresh bakery is nice, too. You can also order a day ahead a large order of sandwich rolls (like 150) and they will be waiting for you to pick up. read more

I shop here often. Prices here are reasonable (think Walmart). The goods are arranged properly. The checkout folks are quick and polite. Though it is a warehouse type of setup, the items are not bulk size (unlike Costco). Only one negative I can think of: The aisle arrangement is like maze. Once you pass thorough the initial sections, you will have to retrace your path to get back if you forgot something. There is no way to cut across the aisles to get back to the front part of the store. So if have the habit of forgetting stuff or shopping sections randomly, you will find this store a bit frustrating. read more

Not a one split Chicken Breast was available but bucketloads of Legs and Wings were I was then told by a worker their shipment for the day contained NO split Chicken Breasts and I should try on Friday but call the store before I come in, what kind of sorry !@#$ is that. The reason I went was for that item what a waste of gas and time. They also had a special on med avocados @$.49ea. all that was available was some moldy, old, far from medium sized garbage. Tried to contact Manager was told nastily by the shift super named Mauricia he wouldn't be there till the morning what a snotty !@#$ she was....needless to say I will never shop there again. Prices are great, on the low side. The store is kept organized and clean as well. Customer service is on the down side though; lines are ALWAYS long, some employees are rude or just ignore you. Something that is really annoying is watching a good amount of employees walking around with their phones or cracking jokes with other employees, while the check out lines are backed up. read more

Like any foodmaxx you will find fresh produce and fruits here. I like their bakery section as well. But the problem is checking out. I have never seen more than 2 registers opened there ever. No self checkout too. Sometimes the length of the queue and delay might frustrate you. I found couple of cashiers very rude. Once I took some veggies which doesn't have the barcode sticker on. Lady cashier made a big issue out of it. I had to go and check the barcode for that one. Its a poorly managed good store. read more

I normally shop at Safeway, Lucky, or the FoodMaxx in Union City/Hayward. All in all, I aim for the market that is conveniently located to where I'm at in the moment. Which brings me to this FoodMaxx. I thought I'd get out of this heat and pick up a few things. First stop during my trip, I had to use the restroom. I asked one of the cashiers where it was located and got a rude response, "in the back of the store!" Thanks for being specific man. When I finally picked up the things I needed, I went to check out, but had forgotten my ATM card. Nowadays, no one writes checks, but with all that I had and not enough cash, I went there. My checks still have my old address, so I was first informed that my check would not be accepted because it was out of the distance of their store. Then I was questioned twice in regards to proof of address, since my drivers license was not updated either. Who carries proof of address with them. How was I supposed to know? All in all, they were extremely rude about the situation and poor customer service all together. I left my crap on the belt and have no plans to shop here again. read more

This Foodmaxx is shit. I typically avoid it if at all possible and I'll go to the other one on Fremont Blvd by Panda Express. They seem to never have more than two cashiers at this one in Newark. The lines are super long and slow. If you only have a few items to buy don't bother. This Foodmaxx is totally lame. If your New Years resolution is to exercise more patience then this Foodmaxx is perfect for you. read more

Customer service is spotty. But I've come to expect that at this store. Although Malik is very courteous and polite. I enjoy his company while checking out. Generally, this store gives you the feeling that you've saved money. I've seen prices much higher at Safeway and Lucky's. But I caught on to something by chance when i questioned the price of a bag of chips when I checked out. It was 50 cents higher than the advertised price on the shelf. There was quiet a bit of confusion with the staff until I went back there and pulled the actual paper that showed the sale price. Eventually I was given the sale price. I was peeved with the fuss, and more so that the customers behind me waited needlessly. Since then, I've always checked prices as they ring up. Sometimes, I can't because I need to bag and keep things moving. But every time I find items coming up higher in price than advertised. I even take pictures with my phone sometimes and have had to show the clerk so I could get the correct price. Price differences vary from $0.10 to over $0.50. Small amounts. But they add up over many items and multiple visits. I've mentioned this many times to the staff. Maybe it takes time to implement the measures to correct the pricing system. Check your receipt. I'm certain most people don't like the feeling of being over-charged, even if it is a few cents here or there. read more

I also agree of the rudeness of the cashier I had today. I didn't get her name. I believe she may be a twenty something dark hair gal. Upon checking out I realized that the kitty litter wasn't the right one that my wife wanted so I set it down well out of the way of people walking by so that the store help could re stock. I was immediately questions by the cashier if I wanted that product and I said no it wasn't the right one. She lectured me for a more than reasonable time as to why I shouldn't put it there and I am supposed to give whatever I don't wish to purchase to her. Then she had to go on and on and on about Fooxmaxx store policies. Hey I'm just a customer and returns of items are not spelled out. I see the point for safety and legal purposes.
