    Moldy raspberries.

The service here is kinda slow at the cashier because there's usually just one cashier lane open sometimes two. I enjoy the low prices here, but don't forget you get what you pay for here. The past two times I picked up New York steaks, I brought it home and it was slimy on the bottom side and on closer inspection was browning from being too old(I should have checked closer at the store, but I feel like these things should be checked daily by staff.) These steaks smelled horrendous. My last trip I did purchase more steaks and inspected better at the store before taking it home and it was fine. Just be cautious about what you grab and you should be fine. On my last trip, I did pick up raspberries too that were moldy. I ate them when I got home and started noticing moldy ones near the bottom of the tray. I threw them away. I will admit I am too lazy to go return these items, so I do not have a comment on what their return policy is like. In summary, the prices are cool, just be cautious about the individual items you grab. My recommendation to management: Inspect the produce and meats daily, and if possible manage the lines a little bit better.

About 25 people in line on Tuesday afternoon and only one cashier. No self checkout. Got to cashier after 20min and finally they got another checker

    Rotten rotisserie chicken

I went to FoodMaxx during my lunch today to pick up a rotisserie chicken. Immediately after getting home I sliced the Rotisserie chicken down the middle to begin shredding it. I was disgusted when I saw what looked like a rotten chicken. The sticker on the lid said it was packaged at 7:09 AM this morning. it really made me question just how fresh their food is. This was not the first time I purchased a rotten chicken, but today I was truly disgusted and decided to contact the store. They did offer to return my money, but I think my concern was more for others who Will eat something like this out of necessity. I truly hope FoodMaxx gets it together because next time someone may decide to it further and report the store for an inspection too.

I'm frustrated that they don't seem to care about the coffee they sell in bulk. Peerless Coffee. They were out of not only the bags to keep the coffee fresh but pretty much there was no coffee to buy.

I'd love to keep Pie Dreams my little secret, but out of respect for the proprietor's mad baking skills, it's behind Dino's. The owner is passionate about his pies and shared his philosophy about how pie can make us all nicer, gentler people. I mean, that's not exactly verbatim, but the pie case made it hard to pay attention. On my visit, there were two savory pies (hand pies) and a selection of sweet pies (hand pies and slices). Being a big supporter of small businesses, I ordered 4. All I can say is I'm super happy I don't live closer. The chicken bacon hand pie was delicious. Big pieces of chicken in a flavorful creamy sauce. There may have been some vegetables in it but I was driving and it was unsafe to inspect my pie closely. The caramel apple hand pie was good. Because I'm not an apple pie fan I appreciated that the apples were sliced thinly, not chunky, and I loved the addition of the sanding sugar on top. I ordered the apricot frangipane (AF) for two reasons: it was double-crusted and it didn't have whipped cream on top. I wasn't totally on board with frangipane since my experience with it in boxed chocolates was "meh." Plus they seem to love it on the Great British Bake-Off and it always looks so unappealing. But paired with the tartness of the apricots and a crust that reminded me of shortbread, I think the AF was my favorite, though I haven't tried the blueberry lemon yet. If you love pie, go to Pie Dreams and have a slice or three (no judgment here). If you're not sure or don't think you like pie, go to Pie Dreams. You may surprise yourself.

Now for the options, they all sounded good and were hard to choose from! I like that they have specials of the month, seasonal, and mainstays. I choose one of monthly specials coconut pudding, and mainstay french silk. I also ordered the cheese burger hand pie for my husband, which he loved! The coconut pudding pie was sooo good, loved the texture and flavor, they had toasted coconut on the side to add on top. The fresh silk pie was my favorite! It was not overly chocolatey and had a nice mousse texture, there was an under layer of crisp ganache that made all the flavors and textures pop! The crust is nice and buttery and flakey. These were not heavy pies, just creamy light melt in your mouth. They also have frozen pies so you can take and bake yourself. This definitely satisfied my sweet tooth, and will be back this time to order a whole pie!

The malasadas were definitely good. It feels like care went into each one--they tasted all homemade and fresh. They definitely did not skimp out on cream or filling. I'm typically not a fan of desserts, but these had the perfect level of sweetness for me. The fruits were nice and ripe as well. The two flavors I got were the blueberry matcha and the mango. The blueberry matcha had this nice rich blueberry jam mixed in with cream that actually has a good matcha taste. The mango one was really fresh--this one was my favorite. Although they aren't cheap at about $6.25 per one, they were definitely delicious. It seems like a family run business that puts a lot of care into their products though. There were a few people in line and it did take about 10 minutes before we were able to order. During that time, some of the malasada flavors ran out, but they were quickly replenished. We grabbed an assortment of flavors, an iced oat latte, and a black sesame latte. The banana creme brulee malasada looked so good that we had to try it in the store while waiting for our drinks. The dough is so soft and pillowy with a crispy layer of bruleed sugar and a delicious banana cream that was absolutely to die for. At $6.50, it's not a cheap treat, but it was super delicious and I'm glad we tried it. The drinks were also great. The espresso shot they pulled perfectly complemented the oat milk -- this is one of the better iced oat lattes I've had. We tried the black sesame latte because it sounded interesting and it was so creamy and loaded with black sesame flavor. For anyone that doesn't drink caffeine, I highly recommend you try the black sesame latte. With such great quality malasadas and drinks, it's no wonder there was a line! We'll definitely be back!

The store itself is easy to find as well, with a clear label outside. Walking in, it looks half-closed--their cakes are all stored in a large refrigerator, with nothing in the case on the counter. There is a sign proclaiming "takeout only" in slight disarray, and the seating is pushed to the side. That said, the service is friendly and the employees are quick to help you and show you what they have in stock for takeout. I ordered the 4" Berry Berry Light Cake for a birthday, and they were able to write a birthday message on the cake board, which I really appreciated. The cake also tasted very light and the sweetness was subtle, which I really enjoyed. The berry flavor in the sponge was a little too subtle, though. My main concern is that the cake does not fully resemble the picture they advertised online. It is missing the freeze-dried berries on top, and the berry glaze did not reach as far down the cake as was shown in the photo. Because the berry glaze is the main source of the berry flavor, this was a little disappointing. Also, the cake was not finished when I came to pick up the cake (and I was ~5 minutes late). I'm uncertain if this is for freshness or if there is another reason. Overall, I like the spot for the fresh and light cake. It's pleasantly unique compared to your standard sheet cake, and everything is rather cute. However, it may be a better idea to buy the cakes in-person to be 100% sure of what it will look like, though daily stock is definitely more limited than if you place an order online. I hope they reopen their indoor seating soon.
