My uncle and I were looking around Foodmaxx to see if there's anything to get there. It's basically a discount version of other groceries I usually go to. They have all sorts of sections like dairy, meats, vegetables, etc. Usually, they would have deals like where you have to get a specific amount of items for the item's price to be discounted, but they don't label the original prices which I don't know why. Also just like other discount grocery stores I go to, they lack options like I couldn't find any Oatly products as well as flavored sodas like Cream Dr. Pepper. The service here is kinda slow at the cashier because there's usually just one cashier lane open sometimes two. I enjoy the low prices here, but don't forget you get what you pay for here. The past two times I picked up New York steaks, I brought it home and it was slimy on the bottom side and on closer inspection was browning from being too old(I should have checked closer at the store, but I feel like these things should be checked daily by staff.) These steaks smelled horrendous. My last trip I did purchase more steaks and inspected better at the store before taking it home and it was fine. Just be cautious about what you grab and you should be fine. On my last trip, I did pick up raspberries too that were moldy. I ate them when I got home and started noticing moldy ones near the bottom of the tray. I threw them away. I will admit I am too lazy to go return these items, so I do not have a comment on what their return policy is like. In summary, the prices are cool, just be cautious about the individual items you grab. There is an employee there named Meanu and I don't know how the hell she has kept her job there for several years now. EVERY time she is at the register she is swearing and cussing under her breath about how she hates her job, she can't stand it, she's so tired, etc. Then QUIT already, good lord. I usually go to the Food Maxx in Union City if I'm in the area. Then I discovered this one. It's in a more convenient location for me, so I tried it out. Frankly, I wasn't sure if I was in the Newark store or the Union City store, they're so similar. It's a short drive from Stevenson, and you can access the smallish parking lot from either the front or the back. On the south end of the Newpark retail area. I did find the layout a little different from the others and similar to Union City. Most have the stand-up freezers where you can get frozen food, and this does not. As a result, it doesn't have as large a selection as the others. The produce looks fresh, though. Deli? Fuggetaboutit. This is a low-price joint. Basically, Food Maxx is a basic grocery store big enough to sell lots of the basics you'll need, and at good prices too. read more

I went to FoodMaxx during my lunch today to pick up a rotisserie chicken. Immediately after getting home I sliced the Rotisserie chicken down the middle to begin shredding it. I was disgusted when I saw what looked like a rotten chicken. The sticker on the lid said it was packaged at 7:09 AM this morning. it really made me question just how fresh their food is. This was not the first time I purchased a rotten chicken, but today I was truly disgusted and decided to contact the store. They did offer to return my money, but I think my concern was more for others who Will eat something like this out of necessity. My first ime in FoodMaxx. I think I will go back again if I see one close by. It was very strange when we walked in. The rows of aisle and the way they stack their good are all so eerily familiar! My favorite discount supermarket, mainly because of their vast, fresh produce department. You notice this right away when entering - and it's a reflection of the entire store; clean, neat and well stocked. There are even lighted ceiling fans keeping things naturally cool. Since the store is a little like a maze, you have no choice but hit the meat department next. They like to contrast their prices with Safeway, with posters comparing how much you can save by shopping here instead. In the far corner is a sizable bakery, with the rest of the store containing the usual assortment of grocery's at cut rate prices. One thing though that I dislike, is that at checkout time you need to bag your own groceries. I like to watch as my items are rung up to verify the prices, but you're too busy trying to keep up with the bagging. I do love FoodMaxx. It brings back a lot of great memories like in the show "Fresh Off the Boat" where Eddie went to a "FoodMaxx" equivalent in the show to get Lunchables. That was totally me growing up. Anyways, you can find cheaper prices here than at Safeway and Lucky's. Though it's always subject to change if there are special deals. Trader Joe's still has the cheapest bananas by far. This past time we went we were on a mission to find little smokies and ingredients to cook them in which were grape jelly and BBQ sauce. Generally in FoodMaxx you can get a free cookie but that's only in some bakeries. I always go here for cheap eats and cheap fruits. The parking lot here has some interesting folks around, but that's why Newark is so special :) read more

I don't know if the worker, Tristan, was having a bad day, but he had a subtle attitude towards my friends and me. We waited in line and he excused himself calling us kids despite us being in our mid-20s. When I went to pay, I didn't realize there was a sign about not pressing the "skip" button. He had an annoyed tone saying "Did you not see my little note?" I understand that he didn't know that I don't have good vision, but his tone still threw me off. We've been here twice and I was really impressed with the prices on fruits and veggies! A lot of other things were also marked lower than Safeway. The trouble is with the parking lot. People drive so crazy and run stop signs and I've almost been hit both times while trying to park and while walking into the store! Crazy! I purchased a rotten watermelon for $6.49 @ January 3rd. I was too tired and disgusted to return it. The produce quality in general is haphazard. This is an old store and building that used to be Food for Less. Their freezers and refrigerators are old. I believe they repackage and extend the sale dates on their meats, baked goods and other items. Food prices vary weekly, making it hard to know what you will pay in advance for staple items. There are several rude employees, especially, an old, mean, fat, white woman. Service is poor across the board. On several visits all grocery carts were scattered all over the parking lot. I came to this store to pick-up some chicken quarters to roast in my off-set grill. My son and nephew said that they wanted my to cook this weekend on the grill and I could not say no to them. This one is located near the Asian Market where I get the soy-sauce based marinade for the chicken; therefore, I decided to go into this store. It is located a small strip mall away from the main road; therefore, it is not too busy. Prices are reasonable for a no frill market and competitive compared to the major markets in the area. The interior is bare and it is self bagging at the checkouts. Service was efficient and fine for this store. However, I did not notice any clerks on the floor when I was there!
