I'd rate these people a zero or less if that was an option.
I don't I don't usually shop at this location, but I had to stop in to shop for my grandmother who lives near by this past Saturday night. During checkout the teenage (Or at least acted like one) cashier, without any greeting or words toward me (he was busy laughing and horsing around with fellow employees) held my money ($80 in 20's) up to the light & then instead of calling a manager over he suddenly walked away with the bills, stopping to whisper and laugh with a couple coworkers. An older female employee five registers down held a bill up to the light and shook her head no. Then my cashier came back-- of course stopping to laugh with his work buddies. I said, "what's wrong?". He said one of the $20's was a fake. I hadn't noticed any difference between my $20 bills. I asked what the problem with the bill was, because he HAD INDEED checked fo the magnetic strip inside, he shrugged and said he did not know. I said, "You obviously made the decision to walk to show your supervisor (if that's even who she was) so what was wrong with the bill? He said, "It just look different". Of course I asked if I could see it. He answered no. I said, "So you're just going to take my $20 without any explanation as to why??" Another shrug and an "I guess so" face. I was so shocked. I wanted to see the bill so I could check my other money & trace where it came from. This was humiliating & I didn't want it to happen again. I insisted that I see it. Finally he left the register again to ask the other employee to come over. The other employee stomped over, highly annoyed, and scowled at me saying,"Ma'am, ma'am!" I asked her if I could see what the problem was to check my other money. So she showed me the bill and said it had a smudge from water damage. Nothing was mentioned about the strip inside of the Bill and no one tested it with one of those special highlighters. I said okay, seeing NOTHING, completely confused. There was a line of customers behind me. I gave him another $20 and cashed out.
At My car I inspected my other bills to check for any differences. I decided to go back in and take a photo of the money so I could study it later because I just didn't see a difference! The lady would not let me touch the bill to check for the strip. She wouldn't even set it down so I could photo it without her fingers covering anything. No one ever checked it with one of those special markers either. I took a picture of the front and back & then left.
I was scammed out of $20 bucks from some thieves at Food Lion. It's not really about the twenty bucks. I'm so angry at the audacity of this scam. I should have called the cops right there but because of the shock & humiliation of the whole situation it took me a while to process what had actually happened.
I guess I look stupid or something. I wonder how many people they've done this to? No one would question it because it sounds so crazy! These two people should NOT have access to a register. The most annoying part is that they all thought it was funny. If in fact the bill WAS counterfeit I should have received a more specific explanation. I don't think any of this was handled properly or legally for that matter.
I'll post the pictures of the bill she showed me when I went back inside, but even THAT can't really be trusted. Like I said it completely left my sight twice so who knows.
By the way, I don't remember seeing any name tags. The cashier was a young, heavy set African American male with tiny, kind of shaggy braids. The "supervisor" was in her 40's or fifties with long black & bright red dreads.
