I love the food lion on gateway Dover de. the staff is wonderful. Laurie and Christ in the deli and bakery are fabulous. cannot say enough nice things about them. Now move to the meat and fish department. Thomas is a dream come true. He is such a great help when I am looking for a certain item. always with a smile on this face. Food Lion has the best prices on produce. I have shopped at their stores numerous times when traveling and it is really a shame that they don't have any stores in Pennsylvania. They are better than ACME, Giant, and ShopRite. They would perform well in small towns such as Schellsburg and New Holland. read more

Food is constantly going bad faster than usual fruits,veggies,an now meats I'm over it!

Good prices, well-stocked, almost always clean, if you don't have an MVP card a cashier will scan one for you--the way any grocery store should be. I used to love shopping here as it was just a quick walk from where I live. However, let's go into why I stopped shopping there and note--this was a long time coming as I have been processing it and wondering if I should say anything at all. See, I was a regular customer who either shopped with my sister or my mother or both. They (the Food Lion employees) knew us well-enough or so I thought. Well, one time my sister and I were looking to buy some groceries for a recipe we wanted to try. We decided that we would need those cloth Food Lion bags, so we brought some from home. My sister and I placed them in our shopping cart--folded and in the child seat part of the cart so it was highly visible. However, we started down the dairy/frozen isle, but as we were coming down, a Food Lion employee passed us and told us that we needed to leave our bags up front by customer service. The way she looked at us and spoke to us was as if we had stolen something. What. The. Freckles. The killer here is that our mother takes the same bags with her to shop at Food Lion. She has never had this happen to her--shopping with or without us--and the only reason we can think as to why is because she is an older White woman. Meanwhile my sister and I are rather young looking mixed (Black and White) girls. Needless to say we knew what was up and though we complied (leaving our Food Lion bags up front), we were extremely embarrassed and angry at being treated like thieves though we were regulars--paying customers who NEVER stole anything. We decided to finish our shopping, but afterward we started scoping out other places to shop and Food Lion is on our "only if we have NO other choices and are being tortured" list. read more

Not a bad place. Very clean store. Friendly employees. Location is good considering there isn't much for grocery stores in that area. I only shop the circular sales since normal prices things are typically too expensive. The produce department here isn't the biggest but it has some good produce. read more

Let me first start out by saying that I have patronized this particular Food Lion for several years now with no noticible problems. I am a young African American woman. Today I was stalked through the store by two men- one who appeared to be the manager, and the other who may or may not have been Loss Prevention or some sort of security guard. I was intimidated, stalked, and glared at until I felt so uncomfortable I simply dropped my groceries and left. I felt as if I were being silently attacked, I felt like I was being racial profiled and unfairly singled out. Today was like any other day- I walked into Food Lion with my headphones in, pulled out a small list of items, an inkpen, and a calculator. I then proceed to shop in the Produce section, crossing of items and adding up totals. I add a few vegan products to my basket, along with some spices and whole chillis. So far so good. I enter the Bakery aisle to see what sort of interesting and unique spices and extracts they had in stock and decide upon some much coveted pink salt. No problems. So far. I had never been inside of Food Lion's Beauty section, so I decided to take a look. I'm a little ashamed to admit that in three entire years I've never once been inside that aisle. qSo I make a right turn down into the aisle... ...and at the same time a very tall, husky man is entering the aisle from the other end. This man appears to be over 6 feet tall, and looks like he could weigh about 300 pounds. He's wearing the Food Lion uniform, so I smile and say "Hello, how are you doing today?" This husky dude barely makes any eye contact with me and proceeds to brush by, muttering under his breath "I'm fine how are you". Not really put off, I say that I'm doing fine and continue to look at the beauty care products. I was actually pleasantly surpised at their stock of Olay face creams, took some time to check out that Garnier cleansing water; and just kick myself for not coming here to shop sooner. I see two conditioners that I like and add them to my basket when I FEEL eyes burning into the side of my head. I turn to look, and who's been standing there watching me the entire time I shop? Husky Man™ So as soon as Husky Man™ sees me he proceeds to slink out of the aisle. So I'm thinking to myself "Well; that was weird." but I continue on with the last part of my shopping- the frozen aisle. Men staring at me and milling around isn't abnormal or strange at this point, so I push down my unease and head for the frozen goodies. There are two other associates who appear to be unloading a handcart in this aisle, I make my way to the center where the frozen vegan/vegetarian goods are, a little uncomfortable because I'm worried about being in someone's way or making someone's job harder. I wasn't in this aisle for more than two minutes looking at the prices on some fairly new vegan Chick'n tenders when ANOTHER man comes purposefully and arrogantly strutting his way towards me. This man is wearing a tie, a tan shirt tucked into black slacks, and is swinging an (empty) basket. Not casually as would a regular shopper, but like a man on a mission. So while I'm still looking at the fakity-fake vegan meats, this man is no more than three feet away looking at the real Tyson chicken (or pretending to). He then proceeds to come EVEN CLOSER, within a FOOT of my personal space, trying to pretend that he's not looking into my basket. He was so close I asked him "Am I in your way?" before he proceeded to say "No, you're fine, I'm just looking for something." before backing off. Dapper Man™ then mills around, humming and hawing while agressively watching me. Now, as someone who has been attacked and sexually assaulted by men, I felt extremely intimidated. The unapologetic nature of his invasion of my personal space combined with his aggressive determination to witness me shoplifting gave me uncomfortable flashbacks and made my hands shake, both with anger and from the feeling that I was being profiled. I do not go into a store to be stalked by men, especially by a man three times my size who could cause me serious physical harm. What young woman would feel comfortable having such a man follow her around the store? Why would he evern need to follow me into this aisle I don't know, because there were already two associates in the aisle I was in. He simply wanted to antagonise me and make me feel uncomfortable. Needless to say I called up a friend, dropped my basket and left. I will not be shopping at this or any other Food Lion again. I will continue shopping at Redners and Safeway, who have much wider variations. read more

If you like good inexpensive hot wings try the deli at food lion. I love their wings, and you can order 30 wings for $10 bucks! Awesome deal... they sell dings with bone in, or boneless dings...which dings mean not hot. They also sell Zings both ways as well which means already hot. I prefer Dings with bone and get u some Texas Pete hot sauce and melt with some butter. 30 wings 10 bucks.... u can't beat this deal. read more
