Went into Food Basics this morning to buy a "Deli Shop" ham that was on sale for Thanksgiving. The bin was empty. I asked a young man working in the Cheese/Butter/Margarine area if they had any. He responded it was not his department. No problem, I understand. I asked if I could speak to someone in that department. He responded" I gotta do this right now" and walked away with a handheld device. I said "Fine" and did the same. I walked away and left my cart with groceries in the middle of the aisle-way and drove down the street to "No Frills" to purchase the groceries. I was in retail for 20 years before I took a teaching position. What has happened to "Customer Service"? Why is it that young men have such an attitude. I am not saying all, that would be an asinine statement, but the young girls seem to be more friendly and helpful. I worked in a grocery store as a "bagger-boy" when I was in high school. For those of you too young to remember, I bag the customer's groceries at the check-out and carried them out to the car/truck; sunshine, rain, snow, did not matter. I was in and out of the store dozens of times per day. This store is not an anomaly, I see it more and more everyday. It is time customers fight back and use our money to do the talking for us. If you get poor service, walk out and go elsewhere. This is not my first time. I have walked out of stores leaving a cart of frozen groceries behind. There are good businesses out there. read more
