The inside is unique as we discovered the outdoor rooftop eating area after several stairways and tight turns. The restaurant area is surprisingly large. We ate in the upstairs outdoor area which was charming. For my order, I tried to order the scone meal but they were out of them so I got the bacon and egg sandwich on a brioche bun as a backup. It came with two hash brown triangles and was fresh and filling and very yummy. My dining companions had the Veg Cockney which is a full vegetarian breakfast and another had the Eggs Scotland (Eggs Benedict with Scottish smoked salmon). I tried a bit of each and enjoyed them. The Clarence Court Leghorn Eggs they use have a brilliant orange-ish yellow to the yolk and I swear they taste better than the ones in the States. This is cute place with great homemade food that hits the spot!

Let's talk about this place…read more The building was under construction when I moved into the neighborhood and I was extremely excited to have a non-chain coffee shop within Saturday morning stumbling distance. It seemed to take forever to open, but once it did it had the cuteness thing nailed. The coffee is good. It's not the best, but it's good. It is excellently curated in terms of decor, vintage finds, and other miscellaneous fancy food items sold in the store. For what it is, I feel that the coffee is overpriced. You get less coffee for your money than you would elsewhere, and it doesn't taste like it's of exorbitantly higher quality. It's a small shop so somewhat awkward to sit and have coffee with a friend inside, though you can sit outside or if you're by yourself, it's a quiet and lovely place to sit. I still go here but I am not obsessed with it. I want to be obsessed with it because man, that would be convenient. Alas, I typically just make my own coffee at home because I can't justify too many visits. It IS really adorable, though. I don't want it to close. I just don't really want to spend much time there, either. I AM SO TORN.

I've stopped for lunch a few times and sampled very good quiche, an excellent falafel platter with shredded beetroot inside and today's lunch special: a quesadilla with guacamole, salsa and a poached egg. Mmm. The coffee is good, staff are super efficient and friendly and food comes quickly and is made with care and attention. Prices are reasonable. The cafe is compact, clean and airy so top scores all round. Oh and it's vegetarian and vegan.

Although there are all the usual mixed feelings about gentrification, I can't say I'm not excited about the current influx of posh cafes and coffee shops just outside my door. EZ & Moss is a delightful new addition, serving up vegetarian & vegan fare (fantastic brunch!), great coffee and wonderful baked goods in an atmosphere that isn't "too" hipster - nowhere near the level of extreme hipster you'd find a few miles east. (Part of the reason I love Islington -- cool, but not too cool). The *only* reason it loses a star is because of the lack of meat on the menu -- I'm an unapologetic carnivore who is partial to a bit of bacon with my weekend brunch. Islingtonites, check this new spot out! PS - Unlike nearby Vagabond N7, these guys take card payment, hurrah!

It did feel a bit more like a dessert than an actual brunch meal though (but I enjoyed it nonetheless). Colombian eggs (12.90 + 2.50 GBP for chorizo) - This is sort of like an avocado toast, with avocado, eggs, some greens, and (optional) chorizo on top of sourdough toast. The toast was slightly tough around the edges but this was a tasty dish. The chorizo definitely brought it to another level, although it was an extra charge. Strawberry rhubarb milkshake (6.50 GBP) - Delicious with a great consistency (slightly on the thicker side), although I didn't taste much rhubarb flavor (mostly just strawberry). The place is slightly on the small side with cozy cafe kind of vibes. We were able to snag one of the last available tables for weekend brunch without a wait. The staff are friendly and very attentive. The service speed is quick. Overall, Sage Kitchen is a great choice for brunch with a variety of tasty menu options.

Inside they have a nice set of tables and chairs to sit back, relax, and enjoy a coffee. And, any dog-friendly place that lets people bring in their fuzziest family member is a good place in my books. On my second visit, I booked a half day in the downstairs desk sharing space and found it to be a handy place to work from when I need to change locations.

Who knew such a little kitchen in the middle of a green could be so good? They've recently opened up a new branch a few miles away which shows how successful this place has been.
