She welcomed us in and let me chat her head off. My wife and I are from Morganton and had never been inside Fonta Flora. Lots of seating, both inside and out. It's a cool space with a variety of textures and colors. Lots of plants and animals excellent selection of brews. Good music and good vibes. I made my first visit to Morganton over the Memorial Day weekend and could not go without stopping in Fonta Flora. What a cute little gem. Fonta Flora has a small spot, with a few stools at the bar and tables around, with a few tables outside, but don't let that turn you away. Service is on point and their beer is even better. Like a lot of towns in North Carolina Morganton has a very cute downtown and Fonta Flora is one of the gems of the area! They are located just on the edge of town and they have good parking spots right out front. Now on to their beer! They have a wonderfully diverse line up and I say start with their 5 beer flight. Love the idea behind the brewery. My wife and I have made Morgonton our COVID getaway. We've been staying across the street at the Marriott. I came back from the from the brewery the first time and said, I'm not sure if I love that place or hate it. As that is how I felt about their beers. I'd have one and be like hmm, and then the next beer I'd go buy some to go. Wife loved the slushy. I've been back over and over again, so I'm going with love more than hate ;). They've got plenty of variety and everything that we tried was well done. We sat outside on a beautiful night. The service was fantastic and the atmosphere (inside and out) was really comfortable. Wait, wait, wait... How have I not reviewed Fonta Flora yet? It's one of our favorites! Hard to believe I haven't heaped the praise already but here goes now. Inventive and creative beers in a gorgeous tap room. Bar tenders are always friendly and happy to describe their beers. Dog friendly. Better than all of the above is their steadfast support of local businesses and agriculture and their willingness to work collaboratively with other brewers and businesses committed to the same values they are. I think I read that they've spent $11,000 on NC ingredients just this year (so, over 6-months) and I'm always excited to see them partner with the likes of Burial, Heirloom, AMB, Free Range, Barbee Farms... The list goes on and on. And that's just locally. They have friends like Jester King in TX and Creature Comforts in GA. They throw a hell of a festival, too. If you haven't made it to State of Origin and/or Give Cheese a Chance, put both of them on your calendar right now! read more

I was really impressed with this place. I can't wait to go back, in fact. I love the location, the atmosphere, and the beer is great, which helps. The staff was friendly and helpful. They gave us samples and explained the different beers so we could make a, informed choice. I loved all the saisons that I sampled. I only had one drink here, because I was exploring the area that day, but will be coming back soon. I'd really like to spend an afternoon here, I liked it so much. They have plenty of places for seating and table shuffleboard in the back. The parking is on the street, but pretty simple to find a spot. Highly recommend. read more

What a great place! Came here about a month ago to try out their beers after hearing nothing but great things. This was a cute little brewery in a small mountain town. There were lots of options of beer to choose from, perfect for someone studying for the cicerone exam, and all were delicious. They had fantastic COVID precautions in place; no one allowed to drink inside or otherwise be inside except to use the restroom or purchase a drink or merch. By the way, their merch is GREAT! The sweatshirts and hoodies are sooo soft. Highly recommend. read more

I'm in Morganton for a work conference and since a location will be opening in Charlotte I really wanted to try the home base! The outside has a cute, cozy, mountainous feel. The inside is the same! You walk in and on your left you see the brewing system, which is always cool to see. But I like how they built it right in the tap room. Local artist work was hanging everywhere which is always nice. The bartenders were super friendly and inviting. They let us try samples. The prices are wonderful! About $4-$5 a beer. I love it when places incorporate the taxes for a flat rate. It's awesome. The beer was really good. I'm a stout person and I really appreciated the stout on tap even though it was summer time! It was smooth and "light" tasting (to me I'm weird). I don't remember what the others in my group got but I tried all of them and there wasn't one I didn't like! Overall, great atmosphere in a small town. Fun place to visit and spend an evening! read more

I have always loved this brewery and their beer! I was excited to come back to this brewery today after a hike nearby... that quickly changed upon walking in. The music was atrocious and offensive. The lady behind the bar wasn't very nice. She had an attitude that hinged on "can't be bothered". The mask rule didn't bother me... but the place seemed over the top about it! I like to come to a brewery to relax and escape the world... not have more propaganda shoved down my throat. Gave two stars because I do enjoy the beer... but I really dislike the environment. Fonta Flora is a cool little spot in downtown Morganton. I think what sets this place apart from other breweries in NC is its concept of using fresh local ingredients. They say that they want to take "brewing back to its agricultural roots." I think that this really shines through in both the beer and the atmosphere of the place. I also love that this brewery isn't just lost in the crowd of Asheville or Charlotte. Instead they are putting Morganton on the map. I stopped here on my way back from a work trip. I saw the Morganton exit from the interstate and had heard so much about this brewery that I had to stop. I came in on a Friday night and the place was packed. One of the negatives of my experience is that there weren't many seats available. I came in by myself, so I didn't want to grab a whole table, but all of the seats at the bar were taken. Basically what I'm saying, is that they are going to need some more seating, if they continue to grow in popularity. Once I did find a seat, I bellied up to the bar and ordered a flight. I got five different selections. To be honest, I was disappointed at first. Just about all of the beers were average to me, but then I hit two very good ones: the Papamace and the Double Hop Beard. The Papamace was a very unique tart saison. The Double Hop Beard, by far my favorite, was a double IPA that they had just brewed. This is most likely what I will stick to in the future. The way that I feel about their beer is that most of their stuff is average, but the good beers are really good. The service was great and both of the bartenders were very friendly and knowledgable. It seemed like just about everyone in the place was a local, except for me, and they knew just about everyones name and drink of choice. Fonta Flora is doing something unique in Morganton and you should go check it out. The service is good and the bartenders are friendly. The atmosphere is nice and Morganton is a cool little town to check out. On my next visit I'm going straight for the Double Hop Beard. read more

Fonta Flora makes a big splash in the world of craft breweries, and somehow it's located in the middle of nowhere. Funny how that happens, isn't it? I've only been here once and I already immediately regret not checking it out before. This was the main purpose of us coming to Morganton (along with Catawba, that cool bottle shop, and Wysteria) and was the highlight of the day. The tap room is small but gorgeous, and the secondary room has a really nice long table right beside a table shuffleboard...table. The scene is chill and the bartenders are efficient at moving people through. The beer was delicious, but at the time we went, there wasn't much that was super unique other than a corn saison, which was really pretty special. I love their efforts towards sustainability and foraging, I think that's what really makes this place special. I'm sad to miss State of Origin this year, but I didn't know any better! I'll just have to come next year. In the meantime, with their *constantly* rotating tap menu and close proximity to Charlotte, I'll happily take an hour day trip and check it out if I'm in the mood for some mountain views :) read more

Ugh, For a place that has so much fan fare I sure expected it to be better. Nearly no place to park in a weird side street. Inside looks like an old leather shop from the wild west. Lots of beer on tap. I tried 8 of them and not a single good one there. 2 servers were taking their sweet time serving people, and I have to say that the customer service was definitely lacking all the way around. The serving area was small and people were all piled up trying to get a beer. Definitely not worth that. Fonta Flora makes some great beer.. in their main lineup. Its sure not here. The boo and I are from Charlotte, but we make the hour+ drive out here just for a beer because it's worth it! This place is like the mecca for sour beers. Situated on a quiet corner in the downtown of historic Morganton, NC, the vibe in this place is very relaxed and they just want you to sip your beer and enjoy. The tap room has a wide variety of seating options with a variety of small tables for 2-4 and they have a back room which can accommodate larger groups. The bathrooms are cool too! Unique tile and plants all around make this a fun little room to visit even just to wash you hands :P. Outside they have tables along the sidewalk too! And of course the beer! This past visit I had the Funk Fuzz, which was basically a wild sour ale made with local peaches. Just about everything on this menu is made with local ingredients, which I love. It's hard to find these beers just anywhere, so we also got a bottle of a special release to-go. read more

This brewery is more for those adventurous with their beer choices, so if you're not super into craft beers this probably isn't for you. They use all local ingredients and are all about local, which is pretty cool! They don't have a kitchen or anything though so all they can offer you are packaged snacks.
