Mead on Keeper's Cut Meadery outdoor porch!
    Estee S.

Best service I've ever had! They we're so welcoming and hospitality was top tier. The mead was delicious and the set up was fantastic. We just finished a hike when we saw they were nearby, they provided us with great suggestions and fun places to go in town! Forgot to mention, but they're also dog friendly!

    Ambiance for Christmas!

Charlie and Kathryn make this place. They have the best meads and some of the best craft wines. A gem that must be experienced. Beautiful decor. Make this a must see place to visit!

    What a great flight!

Just the best folks. The time and patience taken to create this beautiful space is amazing. You MUST come, see this place, and sample their award winning meads.

If you've never had mead, you've got to try it! The owners are extremely kind, and the space is really neat. They have a great dog-friendly patio with umbrellas and streaming music. They also have live music on some weekends. My husband and I would definitely return if we are ever back in Marion.

I had not had a mead, so I did the Still (wine style) Meads which is a lot to sample at 17 half oz pours.

We ended up going on a night that the pirate show was going on. We almost didn't go to the show since our drinks and dinner was already a bit pricey but last minute decided to do it and started with Pirate Bingo then the live music. I have to say I think that was our favorite part of the entire thing was being able to just hang out. Listen to some cool music and dress up and sing along to sea shanties Now I've drank mead at a couple places across NC- my particular taste is primarily sweet and not super dry. I love trying new mead so of course we got flights to try every single one they had. I'm not sure if it's because of the storm, but they only had four different flavors when we went. A seasonal chai one, a reserve one, traditional and a hibiscus one. Personally, all of them were very dry, and some of them were very bitter, but the flavors were definitely great. I just don't know if I could have a whole glass at a time of it. I did end up buying a bottle of the chai because it was very tasty and the flavor was great and not as dry as the traditional- the traditional was still really great flavor because it tasted exactly like a wildflower honey would. I'm not a personal fan of the reserve flavor, but it was extremely smooth and we liked that aspect. The hibiscus just wasn't my type of flavor but I don't usually drink hibiscus flavored things, but wanted to try it anyway. The bottles are a little bit expensive and I guess I should've asked before just saying that I wanted to get one - the chai was about $40 for one bottle which is more than what I'm used to paying for my bottles of mead but I think, considering the circumstances of the storm hitting as well as them needing to make more money I don't mind it as much. I'm trying to support them. I do kind of wish they would've had prices on their menu for bottles as well. Maybe I missed it. The food itself was pretty decent and their french fries were great. I got a pretty basic burger, but it was tasty. The one massive con is that it's just so far into the mountains that it's hard to get to depending on your location and if you go at night, you have to drive down a miserable mountain with a ton of twist and turns, and by the end of leaving, we all were nauseous (I'm used to flatter land over in east Carolina) I also just wanna say that their events they do are awesome and they definitely are worth it. They do also have fireplaces, which were really nice to be able to stay warm, especially when it was kind of chilly out. We had a great time

We tried another new muscadine wine this weekend that was released in between our last visit - Plum Crazy - which is a red muscadine wine with plum and edible glitter! It was our favorite wine of the day in our wine flight. Wines We Love: Plum Crazy - Plum muscadine wine. White Sangria - Good fruity sweet wine, perfect for the summer! Crystal Dreams - Strawberry muscadine wine. Cherry Smash - I definitely get tart cherry, not as sweet as the other sweet wines they have, but still enjoyable. Summer Breeze - A nice light sweet white wine. Windsorberry - A nice light sweet blueberry wine. Apple Mead - Apples and cinnamon. Enjoyable, but I have to be in the mood for this one as it is not an everyday wine for me. Snow Cream - Vanilla muscadine wine. You can definitely taste the vanilla, but I really enjoyed sipping on this on a warm day. Another one I have to be in the mood for as it is not an everyday wine for me. Fortified Wines We Love: Midnight Run/Midnight Run Grand Reserve - You can definitely taste the difference in these and we prefer the Grand Reserve, but both are very good. Hillbilly Holiday Honey Moon (This has not been in rotation in awhile, so I'm not sure if it will be made again). They also offer great slushies which can be part of the wine flight. My husband did the distillery tour this time and he really enjoyed the background information plus the samples that he got to try. They give you tips for pairing as well. Service is always great when we come - they are dog friendly! Highly recommend this winery if you are in the area.

Since they serve food--a plus given the remote location--we were able to enjoy a full experience without needing to go elsewhere. We had the option to sit indoors or outdoors and chose the upper outdoor patio to enjoy the live music, while still keeping a comfortable distance so it wouldn't be too loud for Luna. I initially wanted to sit on the lower patio, which had heaters, but it was a bit of a walk to the bar and there weren't other guests down there at the time. When I mentioned being cold, a staff member kindly brought out a personal heater for me, which was a thoughtful touch. Several employees stopped by to chat about Luna--my favorite subject-and we bonded over our shared love for Labradors. The food and wine were both excellent; we even took home a few bottles. Owner-operator Nick sells his own brand of locally produced (the vineyard and winery is down the road) meads, varietal wines, and blends among and between the two with reasonably priced pours. There's plenty on tap and flights available for sampling along with some guest beers on draft and in bottles. Almost everything on tap can be bottled and taken to go, a nice touch for those who'd like to spread the word or offer a unique gift. There's an indoor, dog-friendly bar, an attached patio, and a large outdoor area with a cornhole set and a pit for a big, crackling fire. The combination of the beverage and the outdoor space around the pit is ideal for a chilly fall or winter night in NC. Local bands play the attached patio on weekends. There's parking in front. T-shirts and other swag available. The host, regulars, and travelers make for great conversation. Check it out if you're local or passing through, but make a reasonable detour even if you're not to this unique and engaging small business.
