I've had acupuncture a bunch of times. And in my experience it is always about the practitioner, not the practice. Acupuncture works. I've seen it work and do incredible things for me personally. Ryan is extremely thorough and listens to what is going on with your body. When I worked with him, he was eager, passionate about what he does and got me outstanding results. I can recommend him highly enough. read more

Dr. Fong has a very gentle way about him which let's you feel at ease. Always checking in throughout the process and even called after my appointment to make sure everything was good. I never thought GIRD was treatable through anything other than copious antacids and a bland diet. In just 4 treatments my symptoms have greatly abated and my antacid intake has decreased by 75%. I have also been able to reduce my anxiety meds and stop my sleeping meds entirely. I look forward to coming in every week and am so thankful to Dr. Fong for taking my insurance from the ACA and most of all being a kind, welcoming doctor that instills trust and enthusiasm for my future well-being. read more

Ryan Fong was so helpful every session I had with him. I had a couple appointments to help me induce labor naturally. He walked me through each step and was very informative which made me feel so comfortable. He is very accommodating in how you're feeling and what you need. I would highly recommend Ryan Fong to anyone!! read more

I have been dealing with a chronic wrist issue and have tried just about everything, with varying degrees of success. Ryan Fong was recommended to me by a colleague and I decided to give him a try - and I'm so glad I did. Ryan did a very thorough intake, made me feel comfortable and listened to my complaint. He treated me several times; a few times with work only over the wrist and other times with a full body treatment and it has really, really made a difference. My pain is considerably less, and is sporadic rather than constant. This is the best improvement I've had since the issue came up, so I am a very, very happy client. Acupuncture is not a "one and done" type of therapy; you have to be prepared to do the whole treatment plan but if you stick with it, Ryan will take good care of you. I recommend Ryan withe my whole heart. read more

MUST GO AND TRY FOR YOURSELF!!! I'm recommending Ryan Fong's Acupuncture to my family, friends, and coworkers! After 5 massages and 1 acupuncture session for back/leg pains (due to muscle tension/stress) all within a two week period at another place - the pains continued. I found Ryan Fong's Acupuncture through Yelp and decided to go see him. From making an appointment to the treatments, he was an absolute professional!! He knows his stuff and answered any questions I had -- without giving me a short answer or being condescending. He was extremely kind, listened to my concerns, and explained the process. During the treatments, Ryan checked on my comfort level and encourage me to let him know of any discomforts (if any - which none were from the needles) I was experiencing. He was extremely calm which made me feel relaxed and comfortable. I've had multiple acupuncture treatments with other Acupuncturists (for other reasons).. and by far, Ryan Fong is one of the best! I've had three treatments so far and feel better than I can remember! Thank you so much Ryan!! I think I'm ready to run that marathon! read more

Dr Fong is a really nice guy! Even his voice is nice and soothing for a spa like atmosphere. His prices are great compared to other acupuncture places and theres easy free parking out back. read more

This is a wonderful place! I highly recommend it! Ryan Fong is very gentle and knows his stuff. I had a groin pain that was affecting my walking and limiting my ability to go to the gym. The pain was so bad that I was using a walker to get around. Not wanting to be dependent on pain killers, my doctor suggested acupuncture. I decided to try it. Growing up in a family of doctors, I must say I was skeptical at first - but after my first session here, I am a believer... and this facility is professional, clean and comfortable! 5 stars for sure! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Fong for the past 4 months for stubborn weight loss and have been amazed by the results. I have lost a total of 25 lbs and actually reached my weight loss goal today!! Before seeing Dr. Fong, I had tried everything to lose the weight. I was working out twice a day and dieting heavily, but my body plateaued and I could not shed the extra pounds no matter what I did. A friend had recommended acupuncture, so I decided to go see Dr. Fong. After only one treatment, I had lost 3 lbs in just 1 week! If you are struggling with weight loss, I would highly recommend giving Fong Acupuncture a try!! read more

I sprained the top of my foot 3 months ago and it was healing at snail speed. I have been doing acupuncture off and on for 5 years and decided it was time to try it on my foot. I've had amazing acupuncturists before but recently moved to Pasadena so turned to Yelp to find a good one here. Dr. Ryan Fong had great reviews on Yelp so I decided to give him a try. His practice is in a shared space with a chiropractor. It seems that he doesn't have a receptionist of his own (since Ryan was the one I spoke with when making the original appointment on the phone), but there is a shared one when you arrive onsite at the office. The office is clean, but a little dated. Ryan had great bedside manners and was very thorough in asking me questions about my injury. However, he seemed inexperienced when it came time to stick in the needles. He didn't have the confidence or knowledge that you would expect from an acupuncturist and each needle that was inserted was slow and painful. Ryan did mention that he's only treated a few foot injuries, so maybe this wasn't his area of expertise(?) After the treatment, the back of my foot started to hurt. I decided not to go back and have since found another acupuncturist who's amazing and has helped my foot heal quickly. read more

Great experience! After only two treatments Ryan cured my heartburn/acid reflux! I've tried everything to help with this and nothing worked until I came here! Ryan Fong truly is a wonderful healer! read more

After a recent lower back injury at the gym, I decided to give acupuncture a try. I had been prescribed muscle relaxants over the years for this type of injury and they just never seemed to work. Acupuncture was to be the next step. Ryan put me immediately at ease, taking a very detailed medical history and then describing how the treatment worked and what to expect. He is very professional and communicative which I appreciate. After the first treatment my back started to improve and by the time I returned for the second treatment the pain had dissipated by 90%. I was completely pain-free one week from the initial treatment. Ryan is a true professional and I will certainly be returning to see him when the need arises. I can highly recommend him. read more

Absolutely as good as it gets! Without a doubt. I have gone to several acupuncturist from Monterey Park to Los Angeles area and none compare to the care Ryan has given me. He is very professional and courteous. He has excellent bed side manners. He listens well to the needs of the patient. I felt like a mess when I went to see Ryan for the first time. Ever since then I have been feeling better spiritually as well as physically. Ryan exudes positive energy. His attention to details is great. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great acupuncturist. His care is like no other. He is fantastic! read more

I started going to Dr. Fong a few weeks ago. I have had chronic pain on the left side of my neck and shoulder that had been causing me headaches for over decade. Now my pain has decreased and my headaches are less severe. I regret not going sooner and highly recommend Dr. Fong. He is so sincere and genuinely cares about his patients. read more

I got referred to Dr. Fong by my sister and it has turned out to be so amazing. I have suffered from anxiety for about eight years now and he and his methods and his knowledge have definitely helped me out. I have got a lot better since I started seeing him and his relaxing demeanor and calm attitude make you feel very comfortable. I for one have never been afraid of needles so it was easier for me to do this but he makes sure that you're OK with the pain and everything that goes with it before and during needling. Thank you so much. I still go by him twice a week read more

I have been coming to Ryan for the last few weeks and have been very happy with his treatment and service. I went to the emergency room on Labor Day and was diagnosed with cervical muscle spasms. I sought out an acupuncture that was local to the Pasadena area, got good reviews on Yelp, and also took my insurance. Ryan has me given meticulous treatment and educated me on how acupuncture as well as the body works, namely why the muscles in my neck and shoulder are in pain and what we have to do to fix them. Ryan's treatment is very flexible and he also tries different strategies and methods to help my shoulder pain improve. I have definitely made great strides since coming to Ryan. I no longer take muscle relaxers or pain killers and the pain has subsided tremendously. Finally, Ryan's also a genuinely nice guy that cares about his patients. I highly recommend coming to him. read more

Dr. Fong and his practice are simply amazing. I tore my lower back and I had to go to PT for about 1.5 years and although it helped the pain would come back and my mobility was hampered (there were times when I couldn't lift my legs while sitting). But Dr. Fong was able to change all that; after only 4 sessions my back completely healed and I have never had a problem since. He's healed my rotator cuff, my knee and my ankle to the point where there is no pain or lingering effects from any injury no matter the severity. He is patient and knowledgeable with any questions you have. It is amazing what his techniques have done and I continue to recommend acupuncture and Dr. Fong to anyone I meet. read more

Ryan Fong is a class act. He is such a good natured person and a great acupuncturist. I'm doing naet with him and my health has definitely improved under his care. My first experience being treated by Ryan Fong, although I have been exposed to the culture of Acupuncture and Eastern Medicine, Acupuncture is something I never pursued on my own. In February of 2012, I suffered a back injury. At this time I was introduced to Ryan Fong, who after I explained my situation, came and treated me at my home. I found Ryan Fong to be compassionate, considerate, knowledgeable, and professional. He was very willing to go, what I considered, above and beyond to help me through what was a very difficult time in my life. The treatment that Ryan Fong gave was very helpful. It helped alleviate the pain in my back from the muscle strain that I had suffered. I would recommend Ryan Fong to anyone who is looking for an Acupuncturist. read more

Ive been going to Ryan for about four years for a series of treatments when the need arrises. He's great for general maintain / overall treatment of shoulder and neck stress but he has really helped me a couple of times when I had extreme pain from muscular knots in my neck/shoulder and knee tightness. He's great at listening to my descriptions and customizing the treatments to my pain tolerance. He was able to work with my demanding schedule and get me back to work quickly with significantly less pain after the initial treatment. He's the real deal. read more

I've now gone for my third appointment with Ryan, and I feel AMAZING! My stress level is WAY down, I'm sleeping better than I have in years, and I just feel more grounded and calm. I had another very challenging weekend--a funeral and an international flight--and I remained calm throughout. Ryan is extremely gifted. He's also very kind and caring. read more

Ryan Fong is a great find. His gentle painless process with acupuncture is wonderful. He treated me for trouble sleeping the first time I had a session with him. Dr. Fong is very nice and has a calming presence. The first treatment he gave me was for stress and insomnia. A few months ago, I was caught in a vicious cycle of insomnia and stress. Stress would keep me awake at night - my muscles just could not relax. If I did get some sleep, I would grind my teeth. I was fatigued, moody, and experienced headaches throughout the day. I finally decided to try acupuncture after a recommendation from a friend. After the first treatment, I noticed my muscles were more relaxed. I was able to fall asleep that same night - it was a miracle! Since then I've been going to him for the same type of treatment whenever stress starts to affect my sleep again. The headaches are gone and I've been able to get back to a regular sleeping pattern thanks to Dr. Fong's care. The second type of treatment he gave me was for acne and an allergic reaction. I had an allergic reaction (hives and bumpy rashes) from eating bad crab at a seafood restaurant. Dr. Fong's treatment took care of the rashes in just 2 days and also cleared up my acne in the process. He is the best acupuncturist I have encountered! I highly recommend giving him a shot if you are in the Pasadena, South Pasadena, or San Marino area. read more

From the experience I had from another acupuncturist, I think he is more knowledgeable, and also talented. He adjusts points, thickness of needles, and the way he inserts the needles every time so that it would work better. I did not see this capability in my previous acupuncture experience. I visited him when I had been exhausted constantly and could not relax day and night. I had fatigue, headache, dry-eyes, constant cold(sore throat, running nose). I once tried massage and acupuncture that might have alleviated the symptoms a little bit, but did not feel distinct improvement. So I just thought, 'Well, I'm going to try this new place anyway since I know I need to do something'. I choose him based on the previous good reviews, but still was not quite sure since there are many places that have good reviews too. When I visited, he asked my symptoms, and explained what he will try. Then he measured my pulse on wrists. After the first treatment, I did feel slight improvements such as relaxation. Then on the second visit, he asked the reactions and symptoms, and measured the pulse again, and he decided to use thicker needle. After this second visit, my condition improved dramatically. I was more relaxed, could sleep better, the cold was going away, and surprisingly, my dry-eye got better. I needed to squint when I stare at the screen(that was probably because my eyes were dried), but I felt much better with my eyes since after. This was quite important since I work all time staring at screen. Honestly I did not expect this kind of dramatic improvement from acupuncture, but it happened to me. And I believe this is due to his talent. Also his advice on how to improve your health is practical. It may sound based on common sense, but it's with profound knowledge and wisdom(For example, Avoiding processed food, Breathing deep night and morning, Don't push yourself too much, Which food is good for your symptoms, Points that can be used for your symptoms etc). So there is no easy way, but still if you can follow his advices, you will be able to improve your health. In addition, he is willing to answer your questions any time. So if you're not sure where you go for acupuncture, he is the one I definitely recommend. read more

Let me preface this review by stating that prior to seeing Ryan, on a scale of 1 to 10 of being bad with shots and needles, I considered myself an 11. 4 weeks of miserable back pain from overdoing tennis and from work/career-related stress was enough for me to want to deal with needles in the hopes that trying acupuncture for the first time would help me get better and be able to even sit without pain. I called Ryan, and he was able to fit me in the very next day. During my first session, Ryan was extremely patient in explaining the process. Unlike other health professionals I have been to, I did not feel rushed or that my questions were a nuisance to answer, and I was able to put my fear of needles at ease. Though there were a couple times I started to feel a little queasy, Ryan was very quick to attend to pressure points that made the feeling dissipate quickly. The majority of the time, there was no pain at all when the needles went in. Upon completion of the first session, my back felt immediate relief! Two subsequent sessions have further improved my back. My back is no longer rock hard to the touch and I am not in pain while sitting down. Ryan's manner, voice, and the ambiance were very relaxing. He is very genuine and actually cares about how you are doing. I highly recommend him, and if my back tenses up again, he will be the first person I go see. read more

Dr. Fong has been great! I've had chronic pain from what I believe to be nerve damage for the last 3 years. There has been absolutely nothing to relieve the pain until I started coming to see Dr. Fong. I can finally do my day to day activities without my body cramping up on me. Other than being great at his craft, he's also a very genuine and caring person. Anytime I call to make an appointment he always knows who I am and asks me how my pain is doing. If I need to come in because I'm feeling desperate for relief, he takes me in on the same day! He makes sure to do everything possible for me to leave feeling great, even if it means staying there a little longer to solve the issue. Dr. Fong is truly amazing! I was in a minor accident and experienced whip lash symptoms in my neck, shoulders, and back that were extremely painful and limited my mobility. Within the first week of treatment I noticed a major improvement!!! I had never done acupuncture before so I was skeptical and nervous, but now I'm a BELIEVER. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Fong for anyone experiencing back, shoulder, or neck pain. He is very gentle, extremely communicative, and accurate. If something feels off or uncomfortable he will always adjust until you are comfortable and happy. Lastly, he was really flexible with my schedule and always did his best to accommodate me. He had to change an appointment once because he got sick so he gave me that session for free. He even worked with progressive insurance directly (since it was auto related) so I didn't have any out of pocket expenses. THANK YOU DR FONG!!! read more

I went to see Dr Fong for the first time today. He made a miracle for my back! I had major pain (neck, all my back) for weeks after a concussion. I went from 8 on pain scale to 2! I will have to go back a couple of times (this was major trauma) but that's the first time in weeks my back feels better. Really amazing. More to the point: Dr Fong was extremely careful, took a lot of time to understand the details and my history, is friendly, has excellent bedside manners. He kept checking with me all along about my comfort, explained precisely what he was going to do. And: he was careful to check insurance first and to keep me informed, efficiently. I started my first round of acupuncture through Ryan 3 weeks ago and have had 4 sessions since. I sought out acupuncture after going to the doctor who only prescribed pain meds for extreme pain on the right side of my head along with a headache that had lasted for over a month. After 3 sessions the pain and headache are gone. Ryan has also been treating me for chronic neck and shoulder pain that I have had for years. The doctor in the past prescribed muscle relaxers, which only knocked me out and did not treat the pain, and going to get massages seemed to only make the pain worse. Since working with Ryan the pain used to be a constant 10 and now it is about a 4, it is amazing that I am able to have almost full range of my neck back. I feel much happier and am definitely more relaxed since going to Ryan. I am definitely continuing to go to Ryan to treat my neck and shoulder pain. I have full confidence that Ryan will be able to heal me completely of my neck and shoulder pain. Ryan is concerned with his patients, he really listens and is very generous with his time to relieve the pain. I definitely recommend Ryan! read more

I recently had a laparoscopic surgery and was experiencing issues commonly associated with recovery from the procedure (shoulder spasms and post-digestive challenges). Pain medicine, massage, and chiropractic treatments were not able to help the symptoms I was experiencing. Kaiser gave me a referral for acupuncture. He has a very gentle and compassionate demeanor and he explains everything he is doing as he goes. It is clearly important to him that acupuncture is a comfortable experience for the patient. I began seeing Ryan Fong for migraines and he did an incredible job with not only easing them, but making them less frequent. The few times I would contact him when I had an unbearable migraine, he was accommodating and squeezed me in to help remedy the pain. From the moment I had my first session with him, I felt very comfortable and trusting of Ryan. He has a natural way of creating a relaxing and soothing environment in his office. About a year ago when I mentioned during one of my sessions that my husband and I were trying to start a family, he mentioned that the herbs that I was purchasing from him could help with fertility. It wasn't long before I became pregnant, and I believe that the herbs along with regular acupuncture sessions that helped my mind and body relax really contributed to this! I continued to see Ryan throughout my pregnancy and his treatment helped immensely with my aches, pains, and stress from work. I am so thankful that I discovered Ryan! read more
