I have had my wife's 1997 C230 serviced at this shop for some years. My recent visit due to failing SMOG, an "OBD" monitor error resulted from jump starting a dead battery. I was told to drive the car until it resets. After a week and approx. 300 miles, the car still failed to pass so I returned to see what the next step is. I was greeted with an arrogant, judgmental rant - "there is nothing I can do, your car is a piece of junk, take it to the scrap yard to be crushed, buy your wife a new car" and more. A novel way to greet a repeat, loyal customer. The history behind me maintaining this car is; My wife emigrated here fleeing South Vietnam to Thailand to the Philippines then CA after the war - with only the clothes on her back. To show her gratitude to this Country, she learned English, became a citizen, obtained a Bachelor degree, built a career, purchased a house and "her" Mercedes, achieving the pinnacle of her American Dream. I realize how silly this must sound (a '97 Mercedes) to some materialistic, elite Americans, however, until my wife decides to move on, I will do what I can to keep this car well maintained and on the road for her, just not at this shop. BTW - subsequently, I had a diagnostic run to find out the upstream oxygen sensor needs replacing, the reason behind the error code. Lastly - pulling all past repair (not maintenance ) invoices for this car ( I keep them all) - annual average repair costs are less than $90 per year, in-fact, the average annual repair cost since coming to this shop is $83 per year - not bad for a piece of junk! read more

This shop specializes in Benzes and Bimmers. They know their stuff and do good work. I've brought in 2 cars for different reasons - service, repair, and diagnostic. Every time they've been helpful, fair, and honest. On a recent visit they took the time to inspect an issue and gave me good recs, but decided they were probably not the best choice for the work (even with $$$$ in labor). Not what I hoped for, but I have to respect them for keeping it 100. Real pros know when to defer to others and don't fake the funk. They earned my confidence and continued business. On 8/16/19, I contacted Folsom Werkstatt because my 2009 328i BMW sedan had leaks in my windows. I explained that my car leaks when it rains and when I wash it. Ian stated that they could certainly look at it and let me know what they found. Later that day, Ian called and said they had found the problem and that three of the windows needed new seals. He also shared that Gus, the mechanic and owner, said that they think the car may have been in an accident because of some sticker on the inside door panel showing that the door was from a wrecking yard. I explained I received a Car Fax report before I purchased the car, almost three years ago, and there were no accidents reported. They then stated that the seals for the car would be $753.04 and I would need to bring the car back the following week, 8/22/2019 to be repaired. I agreed to the purchase of the parts. I brought my car back in, as planned, on 8/22/2019. Later in the day, Ian called me and said that they needed to order another seal; the seal they ordered was defective. I agreed, and was told the car would be ready the following day. The following day, I picked up my car. Ian said all the leaks were repaired. A few days later, I washed my car, and noticed that the car still leaked in exactly the same spots as it did when I brought it in the first time. I called Ian and he said they would take a look at it. On 8/28/19 I returned the car to Folsom Werkstatt to have them look at it because all of the leaks were still there. Ian called me a few hours later and stated that they needed to order another seal and that it would not be ready until the following day. The next day, I came back to collect my car. I asked to have my car tested with a hose and the mechanic/owner, Gus, came out with me. The car still leaked. The owner became irate when I pointed out it was still leaking. He stated the car was a lemon and that I should have told him the car was in a wreck. I explained, again, that I had a car fax completed and there was no report of any accident. He said it clearly had different paint in the door panels. He stated on several occasions that he was a professional and that he had been in business since 1987. The Better Business Bureau website says it has been in business for 8 years. I asked him that if he was a professional and knew it was in an accident then why did he ask me to purchase $753.04 in parts for a car that he could not fix. He said it was my problem and he did not know it had been in an accident. I pointed out that in the receipt for the first attempt he made to repair the car, he clearly stated it had been in an accident. He said he saw the paint on the outside of the car was different; then as a professional, he clearly should have known. Again, he said it was my problem. I asked if he was going rectify the situation as I paid him $1093.15 to repair my leaks and the car continued to leak. He became even more irate at this point, repeated the car was a lemon and that I should have told him it had been in an accident. He stated that he had done all he was going to do with it and with me and walked away from me. I paid Folsom Werkstatt $1093.15 to repair my leaks, took time to bring my car in twice and my car still leaks. read more

This is the best auto repair shop I have ever experienced. The owners, Ian and Gus, are highly trained Mercedes Mechanics, and they are HONEST! My girlfriend and I are a Mercedes family, and we have had bad experiences at other shops. We drive all the way from The Pocket to Folsom just to have our cars worked on here. My girlfriend had a problem with her transmission, and they got it all covered under a recall a couple years after her warranty had expired. It would have been a $1,400 job but she did not pay a dime. I should also mention how clean the place is. You could eat almost eat off the floor! I hate a dirty, smelly shop, and you will not find that here. I've been telling all of my friends that they must go here since I learned about them last summer. There simply is nothing bad to say about Folsom Werkstatt, bring your car here and you will be treated with white gloves. read more

I was not aware that they worked on BMWs as well until a good friend of mine recommended them to me. I was informed by my dealership that I had a leak in the oil filter housing gasket and radiator hose and was given a pretty large estimate to get the work done. I took my X5 in to have it checked by Ian and team and was told that there were no leaks and that I did not have to spend a substantial amount! Great service and trustworthy. I brought my convertible CLK500 to Folsom Werkstatt to diagnose a front suspension noise and an annoying whistling noise from my AC with the fan turned up. I dropped off the car and headed to work. Later that day I got a call from Ian saying that, "both control arms are cracked." Ian seemed really confident that this would resolve the issue so I gave him the go-ahead to fix it. I liked that Ian was up front with me about everything before going ahead and doing the work. When I got off work I headed to Folsom Werkstatt to pick up my car. I asked Ian to show me the cracked control arms and he said, "Oh, ya. You know... Our scrap guy just left with those. Sorry." I really didn't like that. It made me feel like he maybe didn't even replace them, or that they weren't damaged in the first place. I later looked and I do indeed have new control arms, so I know the work was done. But unfortunately it didn't resolve the abnormal suspension noise. About the AC whistling noise; Ian said that all CLK's sound like that. "Don't waste your time chasing that noise, they all sound like that." Well, even if that's true you shouldn't have charged me over $120 to run a diagnostic on the AC system for something that is typical. I really like the professional manor in which Folsom Werkstatt communicates, but they're not perfect. I'll seriously think twice before I bring my car back. read more

I just found out about these guys and WOW are they good. I simply got a card in the mail and decided to give them a try. What another place told me turns out was entirely wrong - these guys got it right and saved me tons. Then I went again, this time with a Porsche, not even their specialty, and once again they got the diagnosis correct and fixed on time and for less than I thought. Really happy with the repair performed. Ian even reached out to my warranty provider to handle all backoffice paperwork. Grateful I went with them this time for my S63 AMG but also unhappy I did not try them earlier :(. Could have saved some heartache and wear. Had a terrible experience with the Eldorado Hills Mercedes Benz Dealership. They "welded" my exhaust catback pipe to the frame instead of ordering and attaching the correct part. Of course, the shoddy weld came off in 2 days and the exhaust started rattling at low speeds again. Ian spotted the problem in a second, and ordered the correct part to resolve it. Gus was also very quick to diagnose another issue with the hydraulic suspension and within a day my car was ready, and like new(!). Thanks guys. read more

I recently bought an 01 e55 and took it to another shop that replaced the shocks, brakes, etc. I'd had the car inspected before I bought it, and the motor mounts were fine per the inspection. The shop I had the initial work done at told me the mounts needed replacing and quoted me $963 for the job. I decided to get a second opinion at Folsom Wekstatt, and was happy to find out that the mounts were actually fine. They had quoted me much less than the other shop as well. I bought a used E350 which had an auxiliary battery issue. The car had been garaged for 3 years prior to me purchasing it. My husband took it in because he was told the error messages were because of the auxillary battery. The battery was then automatically changed because of the date on the battery being 2011. It was never given a battery test by anyone at Werkstatt. I drove my car after the battery being replaced and still had the same error messages coming up. I personally called and was told by the owner that this particular auxiliary batter could not be tested due to its size. That did not sit well with me considering the smallest Duracell batteries can be tested. I went to Von Housen Mercedes Sacramento and talked to the senior mechanic who told me the auxilllary battery CAN and should have been tested before ever replacing it. I called to get my money back and was told I would have to bring my car back so they could take out the new battery. And replace it with what? Nothing! Poor customer service and even worse tried to lie to a woman about a battery that couldn't be tested. I'm stuck with a new battery that never needed to be replaced and out $200. I will NEVER AGAIN take my car back to this shop. read more

I own a 2011 E350 and I have always gone to Mercedes dealerships for my scheduled maintenance and a couple of repairs. I called el Dorado hills to have a xenon low beam replaced and was quoted over $400; I decided I would give Folsom Werkstatt a call after doing a google search. It was almost four times as less and the location was even better for me. I am not sure why I haven't shopped around for a local mechanic earlier for stuff like this but I am glad I did this time. I am not afraid to own a used Mercedes anymore.
