Once in the exam room Dr. Sorce showed up just a couple of minutes later. ; Update: 10/29/2010 I'm removing 4 stars from my initial review. The majority of what I previously had to say was true, Dr. Sorce was eager to prescribe an anti-depressant. I've never taken an anti-depressant before so I didn't know what questions to ask such as: Will I be able to stop taking this drug whenever I want? NOOOOOO. The drug she prescribed is extremely habit forming and you cannot simply stop taking it when you want. I fault Dr. Sorce for not warning me about the risks involved in the medication. After several uncomfortable weeks I'm just about off this drug.

If you're looking for an allergist...Dr. Malde is your woman…read more She pricked me dozens of times, made my arms look like I had chicken pox, and told me I can't have soy sauce with my sushi anymore (GASP), but I'm still giving Dr. Malde 5 stars! So my gastro (another great doc by the name of Dr Ollinger) just informed me that I have eosinophilic esophagitis. Yeah- try saying that 3 times fast!! Apparently it's a rare condition in the esophagus (I'm always blessed with the rare ones) where I actually have allergies in my esophagus and sometimes tend to stop breathing when I'm eating And if you've read my other reviews y'all know that I LOVE to eat! Dr. Ollinger suggested I make an appointment with an allergist, specifically Dr. Malde, ASAP. ASAP in doctor world typically means 6 months so I expected to wait a while, but after phoning Dr Malde's office they said they could see me within a few days. Already a fan! And I liked Dr Malde even more the minute I met her. She doesn't seem to keep her patients waiting long (or at least I didn't wait long) and spent hours chatting with me and testing me so that we could get to the root of the problem. I'm always annoyed when my doctors are rushing me out the door, but this definitely isn't the case with Dr. Malde. But she also moves at a good speed (she may even talk faster than me- if that's even possible) so she had me out of there as soon as possible. I have to be honest that I didn't love the outcome of the tests allergy tests. Apparently I need to be locked up in a clean bare room for the rest of my life (seriously, I'm allergic to trees!), but Dr Malde understands that a girl's gotta live so she prescribed necessary medications to help me with my allergies. She also made a list of foods to stay away from. Good-bye corn, beef, soy, almonds, and shellfish- it was nice knowing ya! Having eosinophilic esophagitis (I think I've finally learned how to spell it!) is no fun, but at least there are Dr's out there like Dr Malde willing to help! I went for a physical, and…read moreI spent about an hour with her, and then another half hour with her assistant doing a couple tests. For the most part, I felt Dr. Shirley was patient and willing to answer questions without rushing or interrupting you. I was pretty satisfied with the whole experience, and only withhold a fifth star because of the price. I have not been to the doctor in a looong time, and am only going now because my current employer has a health reimbursement account for me. In other words, my complaints could be totally unjustified as I am ignorant about current medical pricing. That said, my physical included a flu shot, tetanus shot, EKG reading, hemoccult, and urinalysis. My total came to $359. Maybe the reader of this knows if that is reasonable or not. If not, maybe one way to save money would be to get the flu shot (Influenza vaccine + Pneumovax vaccine= $57 at Dr. Roy's) at a public clinic and get the rest done with the doc? Anyways, it seems like a lot to little old me. All in all, if you have good insurance or are sick of substandard care at the low-income clinics and have the money, I'd definitely recommend Dr. Roy. UPDATE: I originally went to Dr. Roy in Feb. 2007. It is now almost May, and I am having real trouble with the organizational/secretarial aspect of this office, so I'm taking back 2 stars. I had some testing done (per Dr. Roy's orders) at a clinic while I was travelling in Canada. I paid for the tests and a international fax fee to have the results sent to Dr. Roy so we could discuss them at my next appointment. I have called 7 times over the past 3 weeks trying to find out if they have been received. The first week there was no answer, and a "Voice message box full....*click*". The next week there is a voice mail greeting from the actual secretary saying messages will be checked several times a day. I have left 3 messages over the past 2 weeks and still no response. Medically I had no problem with this office, but if you are in any sort of time-sensitive situation and/or getting tested at a clinic unfamiliar to this office, the one-secretary setup probably isn't going to be able to handle it, technologically. They don't even take credit cards here.

She is also smart and asked about my full medical history including whether or not I flossed! :) She gave me a mini-gynolocical exam and then referred me to an endocronoligst (female) who is the bomb! I was driven there by my social worker, who has taken two people to Northwestern Urgent Care, and she is now switching to Northwestern because of the efficiency and care that she has witnessed. Thank you all who work there. We have world class care in Chicago, you just have to know where to go, and this makes all the difference in the world. I have a long term illness requiring care from various departments at Northwestern, and always have good experiences. This was Great for an Urgent care. You can call and see how full they are. I have been going to this urgent care centre on and off for seven years…read more It's a safe and well run place. They know what they're doing. It takes less time than an emergency room, and even if you're paying out of pocket and have additional questions about something completely unrelated to the reason you randomly walk in for, each doctor respectfully takes the time to answer the question and if they can't they are quick to provide an appropriate referral. I always get there just before closing bc of work and I've never been met with anything but kindness... These guys are great and I think that collectively they could run a hospital.
