You'll go through two experiences one as a passive video watching, the latter is the actual adventure. The experience was like nothing else. It is truly a worthwhile for the money event for all ages. The views and realistic feeling, were great. You can smell it, hear it, and feel the City of Chicago. These things are my favorite and I love to do them wherever I travel. I like rides and this one seems to be suitable for the faint of heart. You really just sit there and there is no reason to hold on, but they do require you to wear a seatbelt. It also seems to be suitable for younger children and those with mobility issues. I'm working hard to convince the younger members of my family (7 and 9) to check one out with me, but they are a little fearful. So far I have done the Seattle, Vancouver, BC and of course the first one I encountered at California Adventure. It's expensive, but a good chance to rest your feet for a little bit, after a fair amount of standing around and see a new view of an area. It's short and can easily be incorporated in to other sight seeing plans of the day. It's touristy, but I would check it out even if I was a local. This one is located inside the building on Navy Pier, there are bathrooms and plenty of places to eat nearby. They also offer you suggestions for how to store your stuff, but you can put a fair amount of belongings underneath your seat if need be. I liked that this one incorporated some of the local people in it's video. I liked how they flew all over the city. We did this after being in Chicago for the first time for a few days already so it was fun to be able to see all the places we had been. I might do this sooner in a trip next time to give me some ideas of other places to check out. read more

We visited this flyover location Friday afternoon. It's not busy at all and we were able to get tickets to the closest showing time. Locker rental was free for 3 hours. It was very easy to use too. My main concern was with my toddler. He is over 40 inches but he got scared with one of those 4-D movies before because it sprayed him with water. I asked the front staff and he said kids normally love the experience. He said sometimes adults get scared instead of kids. So we decided to give it a try. Turned out my toddler loved the flight stimulation. He even put his hands in the air during one of the drops. Like other comments mentioned, I wish the stimulation is more high definition. For $30+ per person I expect better visuals than the somewhat blurry screen I saw. All in all, it was a good experience but I think it could be better. read more

Flyover is great. It's the new "must-try" at Navy Pier. I think the programming is very cool, but there's a huge lack of depth in the content. Not to spoil anything, but there's a preamble video experience in the line that talks about families from across the city. The actual experience though is primarily downtown. If you have ever been to Disneyland or Epcot, you have probably been on Soarin (over California). This is nearly identical experience, except Chicago (and now Iceland). I love it at Epcot and I love it here, especially since we are "Soarin" around my hometown. I am a local so I might have some bias on the experience, especially for the price. I am also greatly comparing it to Soarin which is a pretty high bar that I think this one generally hits. First of all, this is an experience all onto itself. There are actually two "preshows" including a Circle Vision 360 ala Epcot. As for the actual ride mechanics, its very similar to Soarin so if you have been on that, you get the idea. I do like that they have introduced extra smells and water that isn't on the OG Soarin. You get alot of the same smells as that great ride (minus oranges, we don't have oranges in Chicago....except at Jewel). If I were to give it any "downsides" its that it still shares some of the same problems as Soarin. Depending on where you sit, some of the buildings get warped and bent. Soarin always gets pegged for its bendy Eiffel Tower. Now, see Bendy Marina Towers! Also, some of the shots are a little fake looking. One perfect example is that there isn't any reflection of the glider on any of our glass buildings. Also, the glider moves in unnatural ways with stopping, backing up, and moving in different spaces. Soarin has you moving "forward" the whole time. Finally, there is the price. Its like $33 a person. That is a little steep for what you get, but I guess thats par for the course that is Navy Pier. I love that pier, but it sucks away tourists money. Still, the Customer Service and ease of purchasing tickets at Flyover were real standout parts of the experience so while I felt that I spent a little more than I wanted, I didn't feel scammed. If you are to read anything in this criticism section is that this is NOT A SCAM. Will I be back? Probably! I don't got to Navy Pier often, but if I return, I will certainly come to this attraction. A Disney-esque ride at Navy Pier? Sounds good to me! read more

This was a fun experience! We participated in both the Chicago and Iceland experience with a 20% discount on the second experience. My one suggestion would be that the actual flyover experience was longer. There was a small amount of time (about 5-8 mins) where we all sat around then went to a second room with a nice pre-show (8-10 mins). The visuals and effects during the flyover were amazing, it really was an interactive experience, think of it as a VR amusement ride tour. During the Iceland experience you smell flowers, feel the cold winds and mist of Iceland. The best experience was definitely the Chicago, there was music, a wonderful narrative of the city, beautiful visuals of the city and it's landmarks. If you're ever in Chicago, carve an hour out to experience both! read more

We used our GoCity pass and I would have been very upset if I'd actually paid $25 per person for this attraction. The experience itself was cool however the actual flyover experience couldn't have lasted anymore than 10 minutes which was disappointing. It'll take time to get through it simply because of the many different layers of safety talks and a video that preps you for a Chicago experience. This was so fun!! While researching different things to do while in Chicago I found Flyover. Located inside the children's museum, Flyover is an immersive experience that takes you all through Chicago in such a creative way. Flyover exceeded my expectations, it was such a great way to experience and learn about Chicago. The experience is broken up in two parts with the first part being a video of Chicago and its rich history, then after the video we were all escorted to the immersive part where everyone is strapped in to their seating to go on quite a ride. The ride was so fun, exciting, emotional and I was sad when it came to an end. If I had more time , I would have definitely done this again, I highly recommend! read more

EXPENSIVE! It is advertised as 30 minutes of experience, but the actual "fly" experience is only 10 minutes! Rest 20 minutes is just watching videos, etc. Actual experience is AMAZING and I just wish it is more than 10 minutes. Customer service also needs some improvement as staff are not friendly and appears to be there just because they have to. They do have free stroller parking if you are bringing any. read more

From a technology point of view it's outstanding. You truly feel as if you're flying over the city. From an experiential point of view it's ok. It comes across as a "Visit Chicago" tourism thing, which is fine, but we're here already! The "flight" is 95% over downtown ... neighborhoods are pretty much left out. It's about an hour in total with the first half being a very good ra-ra video about Chicago. It doesn't cover the city's history at all though. The 2nd half is the flight itself. In Amsterdam there is "This is Holland" which uses the same format and technology but there you actually learn something and enjoy doing so. Navy Pier Flyover is a fun diversion but once done, you've done it. I've done "This is Holland" a bunch of times. I don't feel I need to do Navy Pier Flyover again unless I have a visitor who wants to do it If This is Holland is an "A" grade, I'd give Navy Pier Flyover a "B-". read more

I wouldn't recommend this for those who don't like planes or rollercoasters, as the motions can feel very much like either, but otherwise it will as a lot of fun. It reminded me of the "Star Wars," ride experience at Disneyland where you felt completely immersed in sneaking aboard an imperial starship and forced into a light saber battle with Darth Vader. Reservation times are required since the ride experience accommodates 30 persons per half hour time slot. They have an elevator for people who cannot walk up four flights of stairs into the theater. If you have pre-purchased tickets, skip the customer service desk next to their ordering kiosks on the first floor and take the escalator up to the second level where the main entrance is located. They offer free storage lockers on the second level next to the escalator for large shopping bags. This wasn't even on our list of attractions to go to that day. We were going to go on the ferris wheel at Navy pier and we happen to see the sign for flyover. I remembered that was on my list on my Go City app so I looked it up. It was on my list. We were able to secure a 7:30 PM slot and it was included in my Go City app, we had no idea what to expect since we had never been there before. It's sort of like soarin over California at California Disney adventure but much better and longer. We really enjoyed the attraction and it was a highlight of the trip. I suggest you try it and it takes about half hour. They have lockers that are free for 3 hours that you can put away your stuff. read more

Flyover was really interesting. Initially I wasn't too excited about it, but we got to go for free, so we tried it. We were pleasantly surprised. There's a lot of build up to the actual "flyover". A superfluous intro to Chicago, but once you get there that the actual flyover was a really cool 10-15 minute experience. You zoom around Chicago in what feels like a mild rollercoaster. Similar to "4D" movies you get a breeze and the occasional misting as you fly over a fountain or among boats. Anyway, it was neat. If you're in the city for a weekend and you're looking for something light and fun to do between activities, it's a cool way to "see" the whole city. read more

What a disappointment. First of all it's pricey. The ride is very short - less than 10 minutes? It's also not very racially diverse and a misrepresentation of Chicago demographics. Certain cultural groups are wayyyy overrepresented and certain cultural groups it's like they don't even exist. Definitely would pass. read more
