A pleasurable and relaxing dining experience on my first visit ever to the Flying Iguana Taqueria restaurant. Despite the cold, rainy and windy weather on this Saturday night visit near the beach I was able to warm up inside the coziness of the dining room. The interior is large and spacious. Overall service by the entire staff was superbly wonderful. Friendly, courteous and professional management and staff. My fav Athletic Brewing NA beer was on hand. In enjoyed the refreshing drink along with the deliciously fresh guacamole and chips. Ordered the Peruvian whole chicken that came with four sides. Chicken was baked to perfection and was juicy and tasty. Lucky to take home leftovers to also enjoy. Looking forward to my next visit soon and treat myself again! read more

A very pretty bar and dining area, with friendly service and solid food. The Ginger Beer Margarita was absolutely delicious, balanced and not overly sweet. The Queso Blanco was good, but standard Mexican fare. The tacos were good, but with a couple issues. The daily special (mahi-mahi) was well-cooked and the sauce and pickled onions were good, but the actual fish was WAY too salty. The Pork Belly was good, expertly cooked and crispy, and the Rum-and-Coke glaze was interesting but it was sweeter than I would have liked. The Steak Taco was also expertly cooked and tender, and spicy with a very good sauce, but again was too salty. But overall, a solid place with some unique choices! read more

Came here for dinner, it was great despite being very busy. We only had to wait 15 mins on a Friday, too, which was great since they don't take reservations and it was packed. Our service was decent but the food was great! We got the table side guacamole (a must) and it was delicious. Food came out pretty quickly too which was nice since again, they were packed. The inside area was decorated cutely to match the vibe of the restaurant & the patio outside looked nice as well. My boyfriend & I split the family sized roasted chicken which comes with 4 sides. We got plain twins, fries, and 2 sides of cilantro lime rice. My family got the bowls that were on special that night- 2 steak bowls and 1 chicken bowl. Someone with us also got a salad- everyone said they're good was very very good. They also had a separate gluten free menu (GF)- see photo attached. So many options!!!! Only deducted one star because the service was just okay- not bad but not great. Would come back again and maybe just order something else because it didn't sit amazing on my stomach. Flying Iguana has been my favorite Mexican of all time since living in Jacksonville. It's more of an American Mexican but is always so consistent and delicious. The table side guacamole is a must! Definitly big enough to share with 4+ people! My go to is the steak taco which is antichuco marinated steak, grilled onions, aji verde, Fresno chilis, and pepitas (the Fresno peppers are spicy but so yummy). My second recommendations is the pork belly taco which is rum n coke glazed, watermelon, cotija, and pickles onions. The other taco featured here is the carnitas which is good but nothing compared to the steak taco and pork belly! Lots of my friends like the junkyard taco too!!Go to recommendations for drinks is the blood orange margaritaand the flying iguana margarita (the highest quality margarita) I've never had a bad experience here and the staff is super friendly! Welll it was worth the hour wait. I was with a party of five. Everyone but me got tacos and really liked them. I got the Peruvian chicken. It was excellent. We came here one night after hopping arounds bars because they were open late and had a decent late night menu. We ended up having a blast. The live band was so much fun, the tacos were everything we needed and the guac was so good we came back for 3 to go orders the next day. read more

Oh Lordy " BRING BACK THE BEET SALAD!"" There's only 2 reasons I come here consistently. 1. Guacamole. 2. Beet Salad. What they've done is charred Romain lettuce, added cauliflower and tomatoes, less beets and cheese and in 1 word, failed. It's nice first bite, I love the charbroiled taste of most things, BUT..... You're simply left with soggy lettuce covered in Sriracha sauce . Gross, disgusting and disappointing...... Soon as you can get back to pre COVID beet salad, sooner I can bring back my family every day. And seating staff? Paying absolutely no attention to who walked in first and was waiting 10 minutes and who just stepped up and demanded a table right away. Then to top it off as I'm walking to the door ( we were seated at the first front table) my broke leg in a brace and on crutches one staff nearly mowed me down, as she wasn't looking up while walking! I left hight pissed off at my go to place. Gregory was our waiter and was the only person to get things right that day . If not for him, I probably would have only given 1 star. This may be one of my new favorite restaurants! I had been following them on Instagram, but never was over in the little town center at Atlantic Beach. It is so cute! We got a table right away on their patio for the two of us on a Friday night. I ordered a skinny margarita with mezcal. The waiter was so knowledgeable and recommended several different mezcals with the prices. It was fun to try something new. My boyfriend got the blood orange margarita. We both loved our drinks. For dinner we decided to each try the tacos. I got one fresh catch (mahi) and one scallop. Chips and salsa were complimentary. OMG the fish and the scallop both melted in your mouth. You can tell this place uses legit fresh seafood. Heaven! My boyfriend tried the pork and chicken taco, but loved the chicken one most of all. We shared the guava cheesecake and my boyfriend said it is his new favorite dessert since we moved to Jax. This is not like a cheesecake I've ever had before. It was juicy and savory all in one. Great people watching on the breezy patio too. We considered skipping the festival we were headed to at the beach and just staying for more drinks. We will be back soon! read more

Flying Iguana Taqueria and Tequila Bar has a fun vibe for all who come through its doors. I visited on a Sunday early evening and and at the bar. The bar tenders were prompt to tend to my needs throughout my visit. I started with the Flying Iguana drink which I ordered based on recommendation from one of the two bartenders. This drink was a perfect balance of flavor - not too boozy, refreshing, and not too sweet. My Stuffed Grilled Avocado came out pretty quickly. This dish is just as pleasing to the eye as it is delicious to taste. The avocado is stuffed with shrimp escabeche, green olives, red radishes, grape tomatoes. The tangy taste mixed with the avocado makes for an intriguing taste to each bite. The Peruvian Chicken Salad is made with field greens, romaine, sweet potato, caramelized onion, spiced pepitas, aji verde dressing with a very generous portion of shredded Peruvian style chicken on top. The salad has a great balance of crunch, sweet tangy taste, as well as mixed greens add a slight peppery bite. My visit at Green Iguana was perfect and paired with a pleasant cool night to stroll around the hopping neighborhood, made my experience a memorable one. read more

Service is always top notch. However, I have noticed that they have changed a lot of things on their menu. If it's not broke...don't fix. I used to look forward the churros; I got them every time I went. This past time I noticed that they traded out their delicious white dipping sauce (for the churros) with NUTELLA. Big mistake and part of the reason that I got the churros was for the sauce. I know this sounds silly but they have changed a lot of things on their menu and it is pretty disappointing. read more

Happy hour is good and the prickly pear is hard to find but the food here is no what it used to be. I ordered the fundido and used to be hot skillet of hubby cheese which rajas and chorizo. Now it's a cheese gravy def has flour in it and is baked in oven. Not the same they graciously took off bill but it stopped me from ordering anything further. read more

Dear Flying, It's been fun but this just isn't working out anymore. Don't worry, it's you, not me. Last night we ate dinner at Flying for, what will probably be, the last time. Our waitress dropped our basket of chips at the table and ran. When she returned ten minutes later we asked her for the salsa. Her response was, "we are now charging $3.50 for salsa, is that ok?" No! Thats is not ok. We have always thought that the prices at flying were a tad steep for what it is, but the free chips/salsa and delish tacos always helped cushion the blow. We had already ordered queso prior to knowing about the salsa situation, so we declined the salsa and then re-opened their shiny, new, leather bound menu to review any other sneaky price gouging. I typically order the garden marg and queso, both of which increased 20%, but other than their taco menu losing some tried and trues, did not notice any significant price hikes on the tacos. But wait...theres more. We get our bill: 5 tacos, split the chorizo queso with our friends, 2 garden margs and 2 double titos/coke all coming in at the exorbitant total of $110?!?!? What is happening right now?!?!?! Toto, I don't think we are in Jax Beach anymore. We reviewed the tab more closely. $18 for a double titos and coke? Surely, this must be an error. After asking our server, she said she thought they increased the ounces, so instead of a double being three ounces, it's now four. Side note, anytime staff have been trained to school the customer on ounces I simply just cannot (please refer to my review on the Refinery). Nope, our server asked the bar, still only 3 ounces in their "double." Absolute highway robbery. Let me tell you a little secret, Pete's has been around for nearly a century, and it's not because they measure 1.5 ounces per pour. Know your audience, but even more importantly, know your competition. This is Jax Bch (I know I know, Neptune, but you get it) not Miami. I didn't realize upgrading to leather bound menus was a free ticket to entitlement. Get off your high horse and come on back down to reality, you're a taco joint. Until then, don't bother calling. When visiting my son and Jacksonville Beach always like to give flying iguana a visit for some really great tacos or quesadillas and very nice atmosphere. The only issue that I have when they're not super busy is the staff loves to just stand around and gossip while customers are trying to gain their attention. read more

On a waiting list for table, fine. Given approximate time of 30 minutes, fine. About an hour and a half later we were seated. Server abrupt, not friendly at all. Ordered ceviche appetizer, supposedly "fresh " , inedible something that was supposed to be scallops. Very slow service, when meal arrived it was just okay. I really thought I would like this food. I just got takeout but the ambience looked nice. I ordered the beet salad, baja fish taco and dirty south taco. The beet salad had too many roasted tomatoes and tiny amount of goat cheese and arugula. It just wasn't a good flavor. The baja fish taco was the best, okay, but nothing special. The dirty south taco wasn't good. There was a blob of black eyed peas on it but no interesting flavor like the other reviews mentioned. Walkable from One Ocean, casual but still nice. We sat on the patio again, so gorgeous out tonight. I'm 50/50 on my Malbec selections, but I'm also a sucker for any red from Argentina, and this was fantastic. See pictures for the name. The service was fantastic, the food was delicious. I will say, the roasted tomatoes on the beet salad were a bit superfluous. Tasty yes, but more beets would have been better. A really great place for a boozy lunch while visiting Jacksonville/ Atlantic Beach. Loved everything from the service to the fresh salsa and guacamole to the strong and refreshing margaritas. Stopped in for some food after walking around with friends. The decor is really warm and inviting. The blood orange margarita is where it's at. On to the food: Hubs had the Peruvian chicken, he stated the chicken was moist and well seasoned. It also came with black beans and fries and aioli. The solid were solid and plentiful. I had the fish taco and pork belly taco. The Mahi Mahi was flaky and delicious; the pickled onions created a good balance. The pork belly was crispy and expertly dressed. My only critique is I would dial back the amount of cinnamon. It created a semi-strange flavor profile that didn't really work for me. However, it did work on the chips with the salsa. It might be because I liked it paired with the paprika on the chips. Who knows, I'm no chef! I'd visit again for sure! read more

Lunch menu Very hot on the porch and no fans. That is somthing that is very important in the warmer season in florida. The food was pretty salty and nobody really enjoyed their dishes. Would not recommend this place for anything other than a drink and their guacamole and queso dip. This is a place you go for a snack or before a dinner. The main entrees were all not worth their prices and the quality was lacking. Especially disappointed in the fish ceviche. It was beyond salty and had an pervasive fishy flavor, not refreshing at all. If I'm really being honest, even the corn chips for the guacamole and queso where chewy and stale. Hopefully their quality of food will improve because the overall atmosphere and theme of this restaurant is actually really cool. Been here a few times, pretty consistent food and service. Had a waitress (first day) and she did a great job. Queso was yummy as always, along with the chips and salsa. I tried a new drink today- Watermelon Bliss- super refreshing, I would recommend. I had the pork belly taco- always yummy. My son tried the beef taco, minus the extra toppings (not his favorite, but he likes regular beef). I tried a bite and it was good and not too spicy- More of a savory flavor (but some grease with it based on the type)- didn't bother us. We also ordered the chicken quesadilla in case he didn't like the beef- we actually didn't get to it and had to pick it for go, but did try the guacamole on the plate and were super disappointed (we both love guacamole). Honestly, it lacked flavor and tasted like it was sitting for a while- we left that behind. Important to note, it's a small quesadilla for the price tag- definitely seemed more like a kids meal than for an adult.
