It was close to work and it was a fresh breeze in the restaurant scene in the Textilviertel. Michael Vesely, owner and recent Yelp #localhero, made this place a gem especially for people who love good and honest food, that is delicious at the same time. Together with his wife, good food and drinks are freshly prepared, right in front of your eyes. The lunch menu is changing daily and if you go for dinner, you can enjoy their signature dishes. Currently those are pastrami and pulled pork. And those are to be taken seriously. For those who don't know, pulled pork is made of well... pork that is prepared for hours and is served with a self-made grill dip. Pastrami on the other hand is a way more complex process, and takes even longer. It's made of beef and served on rye bread, and it is just delicious. I would nominate to have them get the title "Katz deli of Vienna" - google if you are unfamiliar. Anyhow, went there yesterday, we took one pastrami sandwich and one pulled pork (take the mini menu, it's a bargain!) and some of their amazing drinks. Had some dessert as well and after a nice chat with Michael went home satisfied. Michael, I promise to visit you again soon! Payment options include credit card - not all however.

We showed up with my mom's little mobility scooter, and the bartender came out and helped me get it inside over the little step. They were very kind about helping us find somewhere to put it that it was out of the way. Atmosphere was lively, and I enjoyed the interior of the restaurant. It was much nicer than it looked from the outside! They had an ever dining area that was a little bit on the trendy side, and the lower dining area and bar was a bit more classy. Our server, Issa, was extremely kind and patient. My mom is not much of an adventurous eater, and she was being quite picky and asking a lot of questions and he never seemed bothered by it. He also listened to her explanation of what she wanted in a coffee and he made her coffee the way she likes. In Vienna, everything is espresso based and my mom just does not care for the taste. She likes something a bit more mild, and Issa delivered. When my eggs Benedict came out I wasn't particularly impressed by the looks of it, but the taste was amazing. The hollandaise sauce was so rich and creamy, and they were a little buttery, crunchy chunks of bread, I guess like croutons, sprinkled over the sauce. Get in my belly! The muffin that the Benedict was on was delicious as well. We both had fresh squeezed orange juice that was also outstanding. 100% make sure you come here for breakfast if you're staying in Vienna! Wonderful food, reasonable prices, great atmosphere and service!

The…read moresachsertorte is velvety smooth chocolate madness with whipped cream and a bit of apricot and raspberry jam. The apple strudel is a classic fruity standard baked to perfection. We chased it down with cappuccinos. Vollpension provides retirees with employment and social interaction. It also put to work their superior baking skills and incorporates their family recipes. Honestly, i think their deserts are superior to much of the commercial cafes around the city. Their prices are certainly better. Plus you get to support a great program so it's a sweet win-win all around. If you are looking for a non touristy cafe for a relaxing and yummy treat then try Vollpension. Highly recommend.

German for "full pension," Vollpension hires seniors to allow them to make extra money in their retirement/on top of their pension. Their website calls the restaurant "where old and young get together to eat cake." In that vein, the restaurant is filled with what I'd call Grandma chic: floral patterned chairs, mismatched chairs, mismatched plates, etc. Many of the dishes on the menu are named after Grandmas and Grandpas (who I assumed work or have worked at the restaurant). My friend had Mr. Karli's Cheese Masterpieces (cheese sandwich with Montafon cheese and a soft-boiled organic egg), and I had Grandpa Kurti's Good Cheese Wagon (2 spreads, Montafon cheese, mountain cheese, breakfast cheese triangles, seasonal vegetables, butter, jam, a roll, a slice of rye bread, and brioche). My friend also had a slice of cake (you walk down to the kitchen, take a look at what they have that day, and let them know which you want a slice of). We also had a couple of cappuccinos and orange juice with soda. The food was simple and delicious. The service and ambiance made it special. It really felt like we were at someone's home, and that made it a special meal on our trip. I'd happily return.

The reason for the 3 stars is that from the direction we approached the building, it was unclear where to enter. I saw an open doorway and when I went it, there was an unattended hostess stand. I was about to go back outside to find the shop entrance, but then I noticed that the shop was right there, so I continued in. After making our purchases, we exited what was, apparently, the correct door. I got my shirt, yes, but I was a little disappointed in the amount of gear they had...there wasn't much! Perhaps it's because Vienna doesn't scream rock n roll, but then why have this restaurant here? 55/2025

But after a full day on the train and getting settled into the BNB, I had a real moment with myself. Do I really want to gamble on my first proper meal of the day? It was 8 PM. I was starving. No room for risk. Then I saw it. Hard Rock Cafe, glowing like a beacon. A familiar face in a city of strangers. Some might call it a tourist trap. That night, it felt like home. Now usually I'd scoff at that. Chain restaurant? In the heart of a European capital? But that BBQ Bacon Burger hit like a warm memory. Juicy, smoky, and unapologetically American. Washed it down with two Budweisers. Not the Czech kind. The red, white, and blue kind. The kind that tastes like football Sundays and freedom. Sometimes your body tells you exactly what it needs. That night, it wasn't wiener schnitzel or goulash. It was protein, grease, and American beer. Thank you, Hard Rock. You understood the assignment.

Like Demel, Cafe Central is a MUST visit when you go to Vienna, where the coffee houses are a sight to behold on their own. Yes, the wait is quite long. Every time I pass by, there's a line, but it actually goes rather quickly and if you can find something to do to pass the time, it's like nothing at all. First off, the interior is STRIKING, a work of art in its own right with marble columns, stylish looking cafe tables, and paintings every where you go. Apparently Sigmund Freud has been a frequent patron here. Even if you were to get nothing at all, just the experience of sitting here is worth your eyes absorbing. But, oh!--the cakes--and the coffees! I had me an iced coffee that had a great body mixed with a delicate flavor to give me a jolt through the day. The hazelnut cake was airy and fluffy, not at all too sweet like American desserts have a tendency to be! The staff here move efficiently, and I love how there's no pressure to hurry up and pay your bill or make your order. A repeat place to be sure if I were to go back to Vienna.
