Although I can't, and don't, disagree with the favorable reviews that others have shared (Flybussen provided a quick, clean, spacious and timely way into the city from Flesland), there's a significantly cheaper way to make the trek without sacrificing much convenience: Take the light rail. Had I realized the convenience of the alternative, I would probably have used it to travel both to and from BGO.
Operated by Skyss, the metro literally pulls into the terminal. Tickets purchased at the on-site kiosks are only 37 NOK one-way, compared to 100 NOK for Flybussen.
While not as comfortable (it's hard to beat the cushion of motor coach seats), the views from the light rail are pleasant enough, you'll get to travel off of the main roads a bit and (again) the cost is significantly lower.
There are still a few reasons to choose the bus including:
* Speed... The bus is a classic express, shuttling between the airport and downtown quite quickly. Compared to the light rail and its somewhat frequent stops, you'll save time with the bus.
* Luggage space... Departing from the airport, the trams are probably rather empty most of the time, but may fill up somewhat as you get closer to the main part of the city. With luggage, this could make getting on and off a bit difficult, especially compared with the generous amount of luggage space allotted on the Flybussen service.
* Pre-booking... I believe that you can purchase light rail tickets in advance through the Skyss mobile app. I know that you can purchase Flybussen tickets in advance. If it's an important factor for your travel planning, Flybussen gets the slight edge.
* Terminus... The bus travels all the way to the popular Bryggen area, while the light rail terminates a few blocks from the central rail station. The walking distance between the two end points is perhaps 15-20 minutes, so it might be worth considering where you'd prefer to be let off. read more
