It was a Sunday morning (March 6th) and a last minute thought, so I called the number instead of using the online booking. The message said they were busy and to use the online booking service on their website. I then placed a request for later that day and waited for a confirmation or rejection. It is good we were not waiting at the helo pad, because I received the rejection of the request over 48 hours later (Wednesday afternoon of March 8th) with an explanation that is was "Past Date" as if I did not have access to a calendar. I am not advocating that every business has to be open for every whim of a customer however, if your site conveys that the business is in operation, then they should definitely act like they are open, even if to say we can't accommodate your request. We noticed that as the only African American guests by the pool, a waiter walked past us several times and did not serve us. She literally served every White couple and White family but us. She would stop directly at the White couple next to us and not serve us. We also noticed that after we got into the pool, she walked past the spot where we had been sitting and went on to serve a White couple who had just arrived. She even appeared to cut side‑eyes and smirk, as if she was enjoying what she was doing. I just think it's blatant and sad that things like this are still happening in the 21st century. What's crazy is that she likely missed what could have been a very generous tip. Because of the blatant nature of what happened, I give this place one star, and if I could, I would give it zero. I do not claim to speak for all Black and Brown people, as everyone has different experiences. This just happened to be my wife's and my experience, and we waited and hoped she would change the narrative and serve us -- but she never did, and even doubled down by serving a White couple who had just arrived. She even took the orders of White couples while they were in the pool and did not acknowledge or ask us if we wanted anything.

During this time, I took my first flight with 1st CFI which was about 45min, I asked a ton of questions as to who would be my flight instructor, how long it would take and the cost. I was advised that the flight instructor will depend on a few factors, My schedule and compatibility. Great! On my second flight I was introduced to 2nd CFI, an older retired military pilot, we hit it off right away, during our first flight he introduced me to a few maneuvers, Slow flight and S-turns, he then asked if I have ever flown before, I advise just as a passenger. Things went well for the next 5 flights, Then Covid hit, for 3 months the school was closed. On 5/14 /2020 the school opened up and I was called, at that time I was advised the 2nd CFI would not be coming back so they paired me with a Younger CFI, I was concerned about this and because I began with 2nd CFI and already had time and money invested. It was explained to me that my log book will tell the story and not to worry because I would not have to start all over again that the new 3rd CFI will just continue where I left off with the 2nd CFI. I said OK and began working with 3rd CFI. We had flown from 05/14 /2020to 08/24/2021 fly approximately 3 to 4 times a month with some cancellations due to weather, maintenance and other life events. On 08/24/2021 we were scheduled to fly to Conway but I was advised that it would be my last flight with 3rd CFI as he was picked up by an airline which was great for him but my concerns grew once again, because I would have to work with yet another flight instructor. The next three flights were with 4th CFI, which was one of the worst instructors I had encountered in any profession. On the third flight I cut the flight short because he was too cavalier with safety and more concerned about building hours for himself rather than instructing. I had a conversation with him and provided him some feedback and explained that I cannot fly with him. At this point I was going to go elsewhere, the original owner at the time, apologized and got a new instructor and again my concern was time spent on training and money. She introduced me to my current instructor 5th, I was with him a few times and we also hit it off well. Here comes the hammer, the original owners decided to sell and retire, I was again concerned because I had accumulated 49 hours of flight training, 13.72 ground training and spent $10,785. Again, I was told not to worry that my logbook will tell the story and not much will change. Now 60.4hrs flight time, 21.64hrs ground a total of 82.32hrs and $13,720 spent, I was once gain mislead, the new owner has implemented a new process 6 months after he took over and without notice. According to this new process I am only now 30% completed and my instructor stated that unfortunately the time I spent with the school and instructor prior only will count as experience only. I didn't understand, experience comes from flying; I am paying them to teach. This feels to me as once the new owner took over everything prior is a wash. Now I am stuck, this is horrible.

We got the next one up which was $49 called the north tour...however, the prices are a bit deceptive. They add in a "fuel surcharge" for each flight. It was $5 for this flight. Our flight lasted 7 minutes from takeoff to touchdown. It was fun. It was neat to see the beach from the sky so close. But it was also really fast. They try to upcharge you for headsets and getting a photo with your phone on the landing pad under the chopper. It's a bit intimidating if you've never been on a helicopter walking under the rotating blades that are very loud and jarring. Please be aware of this with children. Plus anywhere past the doors is extremely dangerous and deadly due to the rear rotor. Keep ahold of your babies please. The ride is a bit shaky and once you go up you're there until you come back so make sure those bladders are empty!! I think that the long tours that take 45 minutes would be a bit too much. I bet the 15 minute tours would be ideal. They have a 300lbs per person limit which doesn't make sense. My buddy was 11 pounds off the limit. The guy in front of us was 305. His girlfriend went up without him. I probably had 100lbs on her. Their combined weight would have been less than our combined weight so I'm not sure why they wouldn't let him go up. They also act like the pilots work on tips....it's mentioned everywhere including the cockpit. I asked what a good tip was and they said 20%. I guess everyone needs a tip these days...remind me to tip my pharmacist next time I pick up a prescription. All in all I think it's worth a quick ride if you've never been in a chopper.

We planned part of our vacation around this experience and had been looking forward to it for days. Then, just five hours before our scheduled flight, the company canceled our reservation because of a "last-minute private event." It's incredibly unprofessional to bump customers who booked well in advance for another booking. At that point, there was no realistic way to make other plans or book with another company. Vacations are short, and experiences like this are what families remember. Instead of making great memories, we were left with disappointed kids and a ruined part of our trip. I understand that unexpected situations can happen, but canceling on customers at the last minute for a private event shows a lack of respect for the people who planned ahead and trusted your business. I would not recommend booking with this company if you want to rely on them to honor your reservation.

During my first visit to Charleston a few years ago, I took one of their daytime carriage tours and left feeling... underwhelmed. I didn't learn all that much, the tour wasn't especially memorable, and I wrote that I'd rather have explored the city on foot. Fast forward to my most recent visit when one of my friends wanted to do the Haunted Carriage Tour. Since it was something different, I happily went along and I'm glad I did. Our horse, Ron, was a 2,000 pound French Percheron and wow.... talk about a workhorse! From what I observed, the horses seemed well cared for despite the small stable. It was fun learning a little about Ron before we set off. Our guide, Matt, was informative, engaging, and did a great job mixing Charleston history with the haunted stories. While I'm not really into ghost tours, I still learned quite a bit. In fact, my favorite takeaway wasn't haunted at all - it was learning the difference between a graveyard and a cemetery. This tour also had a digital component as we were prompted to scan the QR code to see photos of the individuals/"ghosts" he was talking about. The tour also gave us another opportunity to see Charleston from a different perspective and this time around I enjoyed riding through the historic streets by carriage. Overall, this experience was much more enjoyable than my first. The company clearly has these tours down to a science and if you're deciding between a daytime tour and the haunted evening tour, I'd surprisingly recommend the latter. I'm glad I gave Old South another chance.
