Students have the option of baking camp (they bring home daily baked goods) or cooking camp. My son did the later. They learn food prep and clean up, how to properly sauté, chop, hold knives etc. They prep the daily lunch that is served for all the students. The bakery group usually sends home daily baked goods with this group in exchange for lunch. The last day parents are invited to feast on all the recipes that the students learned to make throughout the week.

The foods the classes prepared became lunch for everyone but then my daughter's class had to clean all the pots, pans, silverware, dishes etc. They spent an hour and a half washing dishes daily! For a $600 camp I did not expect that. The students were not allowed to bring home any leftover either (in the savory food camp). I can't recommend this camp.

It's an opportunity for culinary students to practice cooking and serving a wide variety of menus, and for the public to support their efforts while getting a great meal! Their normal schedule is Tuesday and Thursdays for lunch ($7) at 12:00 noon or Thursdays for dinner ($9) at 7:00pm during the months of February through April and again in September through November. During the fall they usually serve international dishes and focus on a different country each week. Spring is mostly American food. We've honestly never had a bad meal and really enjoy getting to know the students and hear about their future plans. Reservations: https://culinary.gtcc.edu/ They open dinner reservations on Thursday evening around 7:00 two weeks before the date and it stays open until all seats are taken. Only 45 seats are available at each seating.
