I looked over the different surf instructors in the area and liked what I heard when I spoke to Jay on the phone. I booked my daughter a lesson for the Thursday after Christmas. Due to a GPS error we went the wrong way, oops! I called Jay and explained the situation. He got us back on track and was able to work with us due to no scheduled lesson he was able to accommodate us being late. Jay was patient with her and taught her about the ocean and how to respond to it before taking her out in the ocean. Jay spent a lot of time coaching her and she was able to get up each and every time she attempted! If you are looking for a surf lesson try out Sunshine Surf School, I know we are glad we did!

Today was our first day of surf camp. I'm just going to be very frank. This business has some…read morestrong points but also some serious problems and I hope they're soon addressed. Pros: ~ the instructors show a clear passion for surfing and it's contagious ~ the staff quite obviously loves being around children ~ my daughter learned a lot today; more than I expected Cons: ~ no sense of (or system in place for detecting) dangerous weather conditions. While my phone was alerting me of multiple lightning strikes within a 5 mile radius, these guys had no clue! I'm ok with them just being watchful for lightning beyond 10 miles. But 4.1 miles - come on Aloha. Nature doesn't work for you. ~ seriously unprofessional attire. Seriously, do a bunch of young children need to see your bare jiggly asses? One staff member was wearing a distasteful thong on the beach. Use some basic common sense and show a morsel or respect in a children's camp setting. Can't believe i even have to say this. ~ inconsistent supervision. One child floated way out on a board before he was noticed, some kids were burying an instructor, some were wandering around, some were playing in the water, and others were on boards. There was no real system for knowing who's where/with whom and if a child walked away or were taken, I suspect a long time would pass before it would be noticed. No wrist bands, no head counts, no accountability. This is a low-security camp. Not sure it's a good idea in 2019. ~ low instructor to camper ration = bullies can run rampant. There's always that one kid. And he's there now. Much bigger than the rest, singing inappropriate songs, dumping sand on kids' heads, dragging kids into the water that clearly don't want to be dragged, saying vile things. But he's mostly ignored and he just does whatever TF he wants. Maybe if you had more instructors for such large groups, you'd have a better handle on them. If these issues are addressed, i will be delighted to change my review. For now, it stands unfiltered.

We had an incredible experience taking surfing lessons from Cowabunga. The instructor Brett was…read morefriendly, skilled, encouraging and gave simple instructions to follow. My wife, two boys and I were all surfing beginning waves within 20-30 minutes, and my boys took a second lesson to go farther out where the other surfers were. A really cool experience! And the coordination and service from Melissa couldn't be easier. The boys are set up to keep learning more and thanks so much for an experience for all of us to remember.

I just moved to South Florida from Connecticut and brought my kayak with me in hopes of seeing some wildlife. My boyfriend doesn't have a kayak of his own and suggested we book a rental with a tour guide to show us around - I am so glad we did! Misty and her super cute canine, Abu, were the most amazing tour guides ever. Before our arrival, Misty kept in contact with excellent communication. She provided quality rental equipment, and not only did we feel very safe the entire time, she is an expert at spotting wildlife. The Peanut Island paddle was suggested for us - we were so blessed to see an abundance of manatees floating under us, a stingray, a starfish so big I almost called the Guinness Book of World Records (haha only half-joking!) and plenty of beautiful birds, lizards and fish. The excursion took about two hours and we never felt rushed at all, although it was just the right amount of time before we started to get a little tired. Can't thank Salty Dog Paddle enough for this incredibly special and very memorable experience. Misty was even thoughtful enough to take photos and videos for us which she sent after - she really was the best part of this experience for us!! Highly recommended!!!

Beach in the wintertime? Yes please!…read more I love Hobe Sound Beach since it's not too crowded for a later morning walk. The views were stunning on the day we went with bright blue skies and seas with not too much by way of waves. I think the guard stand had a yellow flag for conditions that day but the water looked nice for a cool, refreshing swim. The beach itself is pretty clean with no litter that I could see, and the shelter has plenty of picnic tables to sit at and take in the views. They have a foot sprayer that's located a bit far from where it is needed at the entry. I did not use the bathrooms while there but it is nice to know there is a permanent standing structure there.

I saw sea turtles near shore as well as cute crabs on the sand digging holes. It's perfect. Also has the cutest summer surf camp going on where you can see kids learning to surf. It's my favorite beach ever. It's magical. Free parking as well which is awesome!
