I would roam around and see before buying everything you love at first sight. I bought so many beautiful rose tinged succulents for my succulent garden. It's affordable and accessible. My sister was visiting and brought her succulents back to Illinois with no problem, she plastic wrapped them and no damage noted upon arrival. This was worth the trip. read more

Attention fellow cactophiles: this is the place for you! Located in Apopka, this little gem of a nursery is a tucked away treasure. A few beaten back roads and some serious help from Siri and I found myself looking over what must indeed be heaven. Florida Cactus Inc is about 10 (maybe more?) greenhouses entirely full of cacti and succulents. There are hundreds of different kinds, with so many different colors, sizes, and shapes. When first arriving, I was greeted and offered a pricing sheet (very simple... and inexpensive compared to places like Lowe's or 'Home Depot!) and a tray to carry my findings. I spent about an hour / hour and a half traipsing through each greenhouse, handpicking new favorites to add to my collection. Upon speaking with the owner, I found out that they typically are wholesale retailers and don't bother putting advertisement out for local viewers... But he did say that anyone is more than welcome to come tour the grounds and pick out what they like! They have most items individually potted, while some are in seed trays (if you want to buy a whole tray of the them). They have everything from itty bitty succulents to 5 foot tall cacti. I even scored some medium clay pots there for 60 cents each... Definitely a snag. Check this place out for some awesome finds... and really for some fun! :) read more

Seriously, you might be overwhelmed by the amount of greenhouses upon your first visit, but if you're a plant lover like me you'll spend hours here. The rumors are true - Florida Cactus is one of the best kept secrets in Central Florida! If you like greenhouses, quirky experiences, nurseries, cacti and/or succulents, or wandering around while sweating like you're a in a sauna, this is a must-see! Follow the signage off a little road between Apopka and Zellwood, drive down the dirt road, and park in the little parking area. You'll take the path in front of the building that goes between the large warehouse and the greenhouses to the office where you can check in. They have little maps that explain the pricing and conveniently has a ruler attached. Once you're ready, there are 12-17 (depending on how you divide them) different greenhouses for your exploration at Florida Cactus. Some are marked for employees only, and the beds with colored ribbon on them are already spoken for, but you will have plenty of options to explore and choose from. Take time to wander through the different buildings, you'll sometimes find the same plants but in a smaller or larger size depending on the area you're in. I ended up buying three different types of haworthia (same family as aloe I think) and cannot wait to settle them into their new home! Like other reviewers have noted, if it's hot outside it will be H-O-T inside! I wasn't joking about the sauna comment at the top of my review. The interior of the greenhouses are hot and humid. They are also only open on weekdays until 5pm, so plan your visit accordingly. I think they accept all credit cards except for AMEX, but I try to use cash for smaller transactions at local places like this. read more

I ran across a review from a fellow yelper and I had to check this place out. I absolutely love gardening - specifically herbs and vegetables but I have a new found love for succulents. It's a challenge to find a nice variety so I have this place a shot. The entrance was a little hard to find but if you look around you will find some signs that point you to the office. The ladies in the office were on the phone when I came in but a nice man came out and explained the layout, pricing and plant types to me. I grabbed a basket and I was on my way. I have never been so pleasantly overwhelmed. All of the plants were so gorgeous I had to stop and take pictures. You don't have to really dig around to much to find plants that are in good condition, they are all in great shape. The folks that were working were all polite and let me browse and would ask if I needed help without making me feel like they were hovering. I told myself I would only buy 8 plants max and left with.... Let's just say way more than that. BUT the prices are so amazing that it was well worth it. When I went to cash out the ladies at the front office were super sweet, courteous, packaged me up and helped me to my car. I've already told my friends that I am going to be taking them during a day off (because of their business hours) to check this place out. Florida Cactus is a wonderful place for anyone looking to add to their collection of cacti or succulents. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. After a quick visit to the office to grab a map, you are on your way to exploring 8-10 huge greenhouses that are packed wall to wall with many different varieties of cacti and succulents. The map includes a price list, which is based on pot size, and there is also a handy ruler on the map as well to help determine the size of the pots. After looking through all of their greenhouses, I ended up with about 10 plants totaling about $36. What a steal! I urge anyone who is interested picking up new cacti or succulents to go give Florida Cactus a visit, it is well worth it! read more

A wonderful place to get succulents. The prices are very fair and all the succulents I have gotten from them are still doing great. I have found Lithops there and they are very hard to find. I love how all the greenhouses are set up and you take your map and basket and go explore. No one constantly asks you if they can help, you can search for your perfect succulents in peace. I just recently saw that they are selling some little pots to and plan on getting some on my next trip. It's truly one of my favorite places to go. read more

Went with high hopes of buying several more cactus for my collection. They had almost all of the desirable cacti marked as "saved" and they were unavailable. They said they had wholesale accounts that they were saved for and we could only purchase about from about 1/3 of the cactus plants in only the 3 or 4 inch pots only, nothing larger was available. They said to call in about 5-6 months to see if any larger ones were available as they were cutting and rooting more. Lots of selection of succulents however, also we asked the names of several of the little ones we purchased and they said they didn't know and none of the plants are marked with ID tags. Seriously, you can find larger plants with known ID's online easier than this outlet. read more

Such an overwhelming amount of cacti and succulents! They let you wander around without bugging you but there is always someone there when you need to ask a question. Go to the office first and get a basket and a price list. This is also where you pay before you go. We sped though the (approx) 10 greenhouses and it still took us almost 2 hours! They have an area of one of the greenhouses that has arrangements for sale or just to look at for inspiration. Very well priced and very friendly! read more

Literally obsessed with this place. If you love succulents/cacti, this will be your new heaven. I first found out about this place through Yelp, once I told my mom about it she was so excited to go. Make sure to allow yourself enough time to go and also they are only open during the week! It was pretty easy to find, once we got there we went inside checked in and the lady told us about pricing, gave us a paper and a box to put our plants in. Walking through each greenhouse was amazing, it was never ending. All the plants were in amazing shape and there was such a wide variety, even some unique ones. The employees were very friendly, they let us know which ones they just recently planted and whether or not there were roots. My mom and I picked out about 20 plants, we thought we kinda went overboard. But once they rang us up I was in shock of how good of a deal it was. I will never be going back to Home Depot/ lowes for succulents ever again. My mom and I are already planning our next trip back(we live about an hour away, so worth the drive). read more

This place will literally blow your mind if you are a fan of succulents and cacti, or really anyone that grows plants. Paula and her staff are incredibly inviting and allow you to tour almost every foot of their enormous green houses. They provide a map, and a complete price list based on size of the pot; 2", 4", etc., and shopping baskets. They literally have thousands and thousands of every variety of succulent or cactus you have ever seen, and many you probably haven't. We took our time and spent about 35 minutes inside of the greenhouses shopping. On a 96 degree day in September, it is a little humid inside but well worth it. read more
