Florecita is tucked away on residential street not far from the freeway. Street parking was easy to find mid-day on a Sunday. I was hoping to try the guava but they were sold out. I ordered a little bit of everything - chocolate, vanilla, blue corn, churro, and strawberry hibiscus. It was a bit of a bummer that my strawberry conchas didn't make it into the box. Not sure what happened - I was chatting with the cashier/concha server so maybe they were distracted. I also should have checked my order. The conchas were SOOOOO good. Very soft and fresh - not too sweet. The chocolate-y flavor wasn't really coming through to me. And the vanilla and churro flavors were very similar. The most prominent was the blue corn - and I think this was my fave. Comparatively speaking to other conchas at a panderia, $5 a concha is a bit steep. They are really tasty tho and definitely worth it. Think of it as a top shelf concha. Oh and the good news is, they're vegetarian friendly - they only use butter. Visited on a Saturday around 10:30am, bakery was pretty quite no other guest so headed to the pastry case and was able to order quickly. Bakery had a variety of about 6 concha flavors to choose from. Food: Guava Concha - served warm, great bread texture, nice and airy with a pleasant soft pillowy texture, topped with a crisp sweet cracked cookie top, flavor of the guava is quite subtle with a hint of acidity and a touch of guava note wish flavor was a little stronger, this is a seasonal item if you do want to try Service was great, really warm and friendly with great recommendations and suggestions. Bakery is between two brick apartment buildings, more of a grab and go spot, space is neat and tidy with a cute minimalist design but not much seating in the space Overall enjoyed Florecita Panaderia, definitely one of the best conchas I've had, texture of the bread is really good, on the pricey end but you definitely taste the quality. The texture is insane it's bready but soft and pillowy idk how to describe it and flavor wise they really nail the flavors. The blue corn really tastes like blue corn. Hidden gem! A friend of mine had mentioned this panaderia to me in passing. I had walked past this spot a couple times, so I was excited to try out their conchas. Biting into one of these conchas, you can really tell how they're a labor of love. They are so unbelievably soft (even after a few hours!), and it was so warm and fresh. These were definitely the best conchas I've ever had. The Guava Concha really actually tasted like guava, not just sugar! The Blue Corn Concha was the standout though. I had such a great experience at Florecita Panadería! Their conchas are on another level--I tried every single one: Chocolate, Churro, Blue Corn, Matcha, Guava, and Mango, and they were all amazing in their own way. The conchas at Florecita are simply the best. I first tried them at West Coast Craft and am so happy to live so close to their physical location; I often wish that they were more open on more weekdays so I could get them more frequently. I really like their seasonal flavors! I love that you can actually taste the flavor pretty strongly. The conchas themselves are SO incredibly well done. They are perfectly fluffy, sweet, soft, airy, and delicous--it's hard to have self-control when eating them. I also think the owners are such incredibly friendly and kind people. I think the only downside is that they are definitely pricier than what you can get from other panaderias (which offer conchas for $1), but I don't mind supporting such a lovely small business. These baked from scratch goodies of joy literally melt in your mouth when they come fresh out of the oven. I was lucky enough to try the Blue Corn and Vanilla Bean fresh right when they opened @ 8am. But I thought I'd venture over to this "new" little place, so I hopped on BART in Berkeley and got off at 16th St and strolled over to their beautiful little open, airy, bright, clean bakery near the intersection of 18th and Harrison. I was still hesitant but the customer service was so charming and devoted to taking their time to explain each product, I was drawn in. Well, I'm a convert! I was in the Mission neighborhood walking around when I spotted a charming sign for Florecita Panaderia. Perfect timing: it's 12pm and I am feeling snackish. Following the sandwich board, I walked over to a weird alley between two seemingly residential buildings. There were two bakeries there Christine's and Florecita. I was lucky because this is only open Saturday and Sunday 10-2pm. Glass case displays conchas of five flavors: chocolate, blue corn, churro, strawberry hibiscus, and matcha. $5 each and it's the size of a bbq pork bun from a deli: slightly bigger than your palm. Have you had a pineapple bun, especially from Pineapple King and wondered, why can't there be other flavors? Florecita is fulfilling that craving with these conchas. I got the owner's favorite, blue corn, and was blown away. The pan is super soft and the topping was the perfect crinkly consistency loaded with flavor. The blue corn is not at the forefront, it shows up when you're reveling at the softness of the pan. The flavor tastes like you're eating a great tortilla with the consistency of the a super thin cookie. Man, I wish I had some right now. The space didn't feel rooted in the Mission community I grew up in--it felt catered to outsiders, with prices and presentation that reflect a trend rather than the culture. I'd love to see more intentionality in how this business connects with the long-time Mission community. Culture is more than decor or hashtags--it's people, history, and heart.
