Everything was fine until we noticed the carpet in the bedroom had odd discoloration in big spots. We had an inspector look at it and he determined it was something to do with the warp or twist of the yarn in those spots. First Street Floors persistently harangued the carpet distributor until they sent a new roll of carpet to replace the bedroom carpet. They really went out of their way to make us happy. Used floors on first a few years ago when bob was the owner. We were happy with the work so when my father needed new floors we recommended floors on first. We found out that there are new owners but trusted that we would have a similar, good experience. I told them that bob has sent me to them when I contacted him, we Went with my dad to pick out flooring, and at the time we talked to one of the owners about our previous experience with floors on first, discussed with them which floors we had picked, and walked my dad through the process as he had never done this before. My father asked them if they offer a referral bonus for clients and rich told him yes 5% so my dad let me know. So I called to ask rich about my referral bonus as it had been very obvious that I had referred my dad. Apparently that only applies to certain customer? As I was told that I would not be getting anything because I had not asked about it prior to the referral. Interesting that it's a pick and choose policy instead of applying to everyone. Floors on First is outstanding. We were looking to replace the carpet in our home and do hardwood on both levels. Here is a recount of our experience. Flooring Selection Process: We looked at a couple places in Benicia, but I can tell you that when we first walked into Bob's store, the atmosphere and feeling was very different than others -- in a positive way. Bob was so friendly and there to help guide and assist us in choosing what we wanted. He was never pushy, yet offered his opinion and always left us feeling like we were in the driver's seat. We were constantly in and out of his store looking at samples and even bringing some home and placing it in areas of the house to get a feeling of what it would look like. Bob was so accommodating in this process and always advised us to take our time because what he wanted was that we were happy with our choice. Installation and Scheduling: Bob and his assistant always were in communication with us on the process and whenever we had a question they were an email or phone call away. Bob's installation team led by Andres is great. They are professional workers who you can tell have been doing this a long time. They laid down our floors perfectly. They flush mounted our wood to the tile and even corrected some uneven parts where our banister was to ensure a seamless finish. Andres is a master on stairs and he did a wonderful job with ours. Pricing: Bob's store is very competitive and we really didn't have to compare a lot to others. We just knew that he was straight forward and appreciated our business. We purchased our flooring and installation from Floors on First for our home in Benicia. When we first visited Floors on First we told Bob that we had 2 large dogs and were concerned about purchasing a floor that could stand up to this type of dog. Since we are not experts in flooring, we needed to find someone that we believed knew the industry and someone we could trust. We decided to purchase a floor that was what you called a hand scraped so that when and if the dogs did any damage with their nails we could fix the floor and you could not tell that it was fixed. The only problem is that we did not know this would be a daily chore for us. What we would have appreciated was an honest critique of how our dogs would consistently cause damage to our floor. We would have appreciated Bob telling us that wood flooring is not really the way to go with big dogs, that we should really look at staying with tile or some other tougher surface. This flooring has a coating over the wood, and it is constantly being "dented", and sometimes even scraped down to the wood, causing us to constantly work on the floor to keep it in even decent looking. We tried to talk with Bob about this issue and all he could say was not really much at all. Funny coming from a guy that had a lot to say when we were a potential buying client. read more

On two occasions I have worked with Floors on First and each time I have received outstanding customer service and top quality workmanship. Floors on First installed wood flooring in my home 7 years ago. The workmanship and customer service was excellent. Recently, I had a pipe break in my upstairs master bedroom. Unfortunately, the broken water line ran constant for over 6 hours ruining my carpet, wood floors and title on the first and second floors of my home. I hired a general contractor to manage the project since the work was extensive. The contractor allowed me to select who I desired to install my flooring. I selected Floors on First. I visited the showroom on a Saturday afternoon while Bob was attending a conference but his wife step in and helped me make some preliminary selection. She spent hours helping me to narrow my carpet, wood and title selection. She was knowledgeable, patience and professional. She insisted and allowed me to take home as many sample selections I felt I needed in order to make an informed decision. Her customer service really won me over. The following week I made my selection of wood, carpet and title. Bob advised that it would take 2 days to install the wood floor and title and a day to install the carpet. His crews performance was excellent from the beginning till the end and my requests for special touches e.g., patterned & walkways, new titled fireplace were met with courtesy, patience and a can do attitude. His crew took their time and care to details and were careful to clean-up after themselves. I was particularly impressed that Bob checked on his crew throughout the entire job and even stopped by to see if things were running as I desired. I am so pleased with the outcome. Yet another happy customer. Yes, I know - all these five star ratings - are they for real? In our case, yes they are. We had a leaky valve in our refrig/ freezer which caused lot of water damage in our kitchen (tile) and adjoining family area (carpet). Bob came out to our home, gave us a great price, his crew showed up on time - and were very flexible/ smart about what they did and when. For example, they discovered more significant damage to the particle board under the tile and realize we need to let that area dry out and treat it for mold before they could proceed. They helped us find an honest contractor to take out and replace the built-in cabinets so we could be this done at minimal additional expense. Then they came back and did a great professional job on the floor itself. They even replaced the kick-board with material that matched the cabinets better than the original. A week later, they came in and did the carpet section and did a great job here. We have nothing but good things to say about Bob and his install crews (and contractor friends). They started on the day they said, and the job took three days, as estimated. The quality of the workmanship was outstanding. The installers cleaned up completely every day- I mean, swept and vacuumed and the only way you'd have known they were there is that our old floor was missing after the first day. I actually tried to use Empire today as I used them before with one of my houses in a different city. Don't be fooled by their discounted prices on the commercials for Empire. They even had to fabricate the bottom step of the stairs to match the rest of the laminate flooring. Bob and his team of installers literally came to our rescue and finished a job in less than 8 hours that we'd been trying to get done for almost three weeks from another carpet installer in Napa. We had carpeting and tile installed recently, including recarpeting of stairs. The tile was to be installed over a second story subfloor. Bob T and his carpet and tile crews did an excellent job. The tile folks installed the necessary cementboard substrate, thinset layers, and of course the tile and groutwork. The tile we had originally selected wasn't available at install time. Bob went out of his way to chase down substitutes at several wholesalers that included the coloration that my wife wanted in the material. The carpet folks did a great job as well, with a very clean install that included a good rebond pad. The install service included moving the furniture from space to space as recarpeting was done. The team did a very nice job, with the work on the stairs, which involved some odd shapes and corners, coming out very well. We are very happy with the results. read more
