I'm shocked I haven't reviewed Float Harder yet. I've been probably 7-10 times over the past few years and love it. I've even tried all of the pods and the float room. Whichever you choose, they are all in completely private rooms with a shower, soap, towels and ear plugs. When you arrive you get to choose a color for lights, that you can turn off while floating, if you want. You also choose from a list of soundscapes such as ocean noises, jungle, Pink Floyd and more, that can also be turned off. You must shower before floating and cannot use conditioner. I'm not sure how much time you get exactly but I've always had enough time to shower and get in before the "welcome, your float is starting" notification. Ear plugs are a must because getting any of the heavily salted water in your ears sucks. I always use the ring hanging in the tank to float my head on, so I can relax my neck. The 90 minutes goes by surprisingly fast and I almost always doze off. The lovely voice will let you know when the float ends and the lights come on automatically. After you shower again, they have a room with 3 sinks/vanities with hair dryers, q tips and other items so you can get ready before re-entering the world. Highly recommend as an alternative to a massage, great self care option to add to the mix. read more

Float Harder is an oasis of relaxation in Portland. I took advantage of a free float for Veterans Day and am so glad I did. The staff is amazing everytime I've talked to them or interacted with them. Warm, inviting, and kind. The facility is comfortable and spotless clean. The float pods are private and feel like a warm, cozy, and safe place. My float was amazing. I love coming here! You pick pod or room. You get 90 mins. You pick a color, you pick music. Once you are there, they will direct you where to go. You place your preferred ear plugs in. You shower, washing your body and hair. This gets off any products you may have on your body. Once in your pod, you close the lid. I am extremely claustrophobic and I am completely fine. I think because the pod is the size of a car and I have control of closing the lid. You become comfortable in your float position and just relax for the next 90 min. You also have control of the music and lighting when in the pod. I have become so relaxed that I have fallen asleep. It is wonderful. Once your float is done you shower again, to get all the salt off. Dry off, get dressed and head out. Prior to the pandemic you were able to sit and relax in their sitting room and have tea and relax. read more

I got this as a gift and it took me a while to embrace the idea but so happy I did . I was a bit reluctant about the idea of being in a pod although there are other options I just want to say no problem being in the pod with it closed, it was big enough to sit up in and with the lights and music which is optional I felt really comfortable. It's like floating in the ocean on a summer night. Or being suspended in space among the stars. And also probably what being in utero felt like. In all seriousness, I came here because I'm a mermaid who likes to brine from both the inside and the outside, and during colder weather that gets out of balance. Float Harder is more than just a place for me to splash around in salty water, though: it is incredibly beneficial to my health. BODY: essentially you're thumbing your nose at gravity by floating in this incredibly salty solution. This is gonna sound crazy, but after my float I always think to myself, "So this is what a body would feel like without decades of wear and tear." I feel taller, the pressure points in my back and knees are gone for several days, and I just feel all around lighter (detoxifying sans beet juice is heavenly). MIND: as an INFJ, this is literally my worst nightmare and best case scenario. Ninety minutes of absolutely nothing. It's incredible how loud the mind can get in moments like this. It took a lot of time my first float to get my brain to stop thinking every thought it's ever and never had, and once I found a position my body liked, I sorta just fell asleep! Segue... Your first time will definitely be a learning experience. My preference: wearing both ear plugs (and definitely putting them in before my pre-soak shower), using the head pillow, and going for sensory deprivation (no ambient lighting from the pod, no sounds of any kind). Sure, it's pricey for self-care, but it's absolutely one of the best and most unique things I've ever experienced. read more

I just had my first experience at Float Harder. Wow! There is truly nothing like it. The staff is knowledgable and comforting, which is important, especially if you have a fear of small spaces. The facility, individual rooms, showers, and float tanks are extremely clean and sanitary...everyone has to shower before getting in the tank! My actual float itself was...interesting. It was hard to get comfortable at first, especially being enclosed in such a small space. If you're claustrophobic, I highly recommend getting the deluxe float room, you will find it hard to relax in the pod. My biggest struggle was relaxing my neck, but after 20 minutes I was finally able to do so. Although I wasn't able to get into a meditative space during my first float (the staff assured me that the first float is not the best float), my back did feel amazing once I stepped out. I suffer from scoliosis and have pain associated with that, and I felt A LOT of relief. One piece of advice, please listen to the needs of your customers. When choosing my float track, I chose rain. Unfortunately, I was given the thunder storm float track instead, full of somewhat startling roars of thunder. I use the term startling lightly, it was only startling because I didn't expect it, however once I got used to it I was perfectly fine. When I pushed the button in my float pod to notify the front desk (I did this a few times), I got no response back. It is not the end of the world, and I probably will go back to Float Harder for more sessions, but for the price, it would have been nice to get the float track I requested. read more

Ok this is the longest hour I have ever sat (or I guess floated) still or quiet. I am not the type that is generally able to do either. This place oozes with inner peace. James and Amy made me feel welcome and relaxed. They answered questions and went over what to expect. I never felt judged or pressured. I had no idea what to expect and something a bit in the trendy hippie side doesnt usually appeal to me but in search of a slice of serenity I dove in. There are three rooms, two float rooms and one float pod. You book for two hour slots. This is ample time to shower before and after and enjoy lots of float time. They have thought of everything including ear plugs and float pillows to a room to lotion up and blow dry your hair. I have rarely seen a place so pristinely clean. Every inch sparkled. It's obvious they take exceptional cleanliness into account. You pick the color light you want or feel free to shut it off and enjoy the sensory deprivation. You can choose one of their soothing soundtracks or bring your own playlist. Don't worry if you need anything there is an intercom in the float area to press if you need help or just forgot how to use the equipment. The floating was a unique and tranquil experience. I used ear plugs no music no light and a head pillow as I experimented with different positions as my body bobbed along in about a foot a half of salty buoyant water. I let my mind wander and enjoyed the feeling. After I got out and showered. The rest of the world seemed so quiet in comparison to all my thoughts. I got a sense of inner peace. read more

I did not think it could get any better but it did! I booked a room this time and it's a different experience than the pod. They are both amazing, but I did enjoy the room a bit more than the pod so going forward I'll be floating in the room. My color of choice this time was purple and my music was meditation with piano, which I also liked better than my first float choice of gray & ocean noise. I'll be booking another float very soon. This place is incredible. Our whole experience was so relaxing, we can't recommend this place enough. James and Amy talked us through what to expect and how to make the most of our visit, they were so nice and welcoming. And Charlie the tiny Yorkie is probably the cutest thing we've ever seen, he really starts off your journey to Relaxation Station the right way. And every room at Float Harder is super clean - cleaner than a lot of spas we've been to. You can tell they pay really close attention to every detail, there was never a moment where we felt like something was missing or off. It did feel a little strange at first, and we were worried that the pods would feel a bit too small or uncomfortable, but it ended up feeling the exact opposite after a while, you never feel cramped or claustrophobic. It's a different kind of relaxation from something like a massage, it's more cerebral and meditative, especially if you do it alone. If we could rate this place higher we would, we absolutely recommend going and can't wait to go back ourselves. read more

Float Harder was a great experience from the time I walked in the door. It's always a plus when I'm greeted by friendly staff, but when said staff is a dog you have me at hello. The atmosphere is relaxing, super clean and the float experience is uniquely therapeutic. I suffer from chronic shoulder pain and it really did help. The pod didn't feel claustrophobic as I had feared, and I even appreciated the design choices of their shower tile! Next time I will chat with them about temperature, I tend to run cold and felt a bit chilly towards the end, but there might be tips to avoid this. read more

This was such a special experience- we had such a blissful time here. The float rooms are in pristine condition, and the setting feels very spa-like and relaxing. The float pods come with your choice of your own selection of colored lighting and music, and everything down to the tiniest detail was lovely. Delicious tea and lemon water waiting for us when we got out, and the owners were so friendly and eager to hear about our experience and seemed genuinely pleased to hear how much we loved it. I wasn't sure what to expect the first time I went in, but came out hooked. The whole process is relaxing and peaceful. Going in you can have a cup of tea after filling out a short form. The shower is very nice and the staff was wonderful-they checked to be sure there was no avocado oil in the shower products as my partner has an allergy. The float itself was weird at first, but the sound of waves helped me relax. Lights in various colors are available in the pods, but I turned mine off after a few minutes. They allow plenty of time to shower after you're done as well. I found the whole process amazing and can't wait to go again. read more

Nothing is more fully relaxing than soaking 90 minutes in an isolation tank filled with 94-degree water containing 1,000 pounds of dissolved Epsom salt, optional soft mood color lighting of your choice and/or your choice of soothing music played through underwater speakers. Beyond that, a float also provides serious healing benefits, detoxification, and soothes aching muscles: I love it. Charlie Yorkshire Terrier is the Official Greeter. Amy took me through the routine, cautions, and rules while I sipped on a complimentary interesting herbal tea. One has a choice of a pod or a room. I chose the pod for my first experience, selected a deep blue light color and "Dark Side of the Moon" (other ambient choices are included as well). You can connect your phone to listen to music but send all your calls to voicemail. Now is not the time to interact with the outside world. The whole point is to dive deep within. Once left inside of the private room, put in the earplugs, shower off soaps and oils, open the pod, slip in, close the lid, and drift. I soon turned off the soft music and light to turn up the calm and clear my mind. Think of it as an aquatic meditation. Even writing this makes me calmer remembering the experience. The float may be a wet zero-gravity experience. My spine seemed to elongate. Pain is my constant companion as a longtime sufferer of fibromyalgia muscle stiffness. Halfway through the soak, I thought that my spine was becoming numb and suddenly panicked... until I realized the fibro pain had stopped. I was not numb: I was pain-free. One's body absorbs the dissolved magnesium sulfate. I did not expect but hoped for a great detox and was delighted to experience one. I have had the same response to the float as I have had from IV chelations performed at an environmental medicine clinic where I am a patient. I suspect some heavy metals were exiting my body, which is fine by me. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids, alkalize, and have plenty of fiber to absorb the toxins as they exit your liver following the soak if you feel the need. I use a level teaspoon of Ecological Formula's Tri-Salts and a level teaspoon of psyllium husks both stirred into an ounce of organic oil. A little water reserved in the mouth helps to knock back the slurry. For me, this helps to avoid any detox blues. Your mileage may vary. This was my first float and it was amazing! We were greeted by Charlie the spa dog who was happy and snugly The center was clean and refreshing, very "spa-like". The staff was very friendly and informative. I loved everything about my float. I picked the deep bass music and did not have lights on. I also got the float room instead of the pod but I think either would be great. I felt like seaweed!!!! be careful the hyper-tonic saltwater will sting the crap out of your eyes! Your skin will never feel better after floating. The perfect ending was the tea they had to seal your relaxation in. read more

On the way in, the owners were friendly. I got the "room" instead of the "pod," and they asked me if that was okay. I said sure. The experience -- or really, the LACK of experience -- was what I expected, AT FIRST: An absence of sensation. I started to see why people like it, floating in sensory depravation. Then the light came on. I thought it was over and prepared to climb out of the thing. Then the light went off. I settled back in, and it went on again. It was some kind of fluke in the motion-activated switch that kept turning it on and off, utterly ruining the experience, multiple times. I mentioned this on the way out, and the owners gave me a spacey look and told me that yes, there's something wrong with the switch in there, and that was it. Not only did they not give me a refund or even a discount, they didn't even say they were sorry. I got NOTHING for my money and left 100x more stressed out then when I came. read more

Today was my first float. This was an amazing experience. The facility and staff are extremely professional. I was very comfortable here, and would love to have another float. My experience: I used a float tank with no light or music (these are options), then I began to float. I could not see my own hand in front of my face, and the only sound was the water, my breath and heart beat. At first my muscles began to lightly twitch because I was in a state of weightless floating as though I was floating in space. My mind began to go crazy at first. My thoughts were like vivid day dreams that I would eventually catch as I refocused on my breathing. After about 15-20 minutes is when my mind started to go deep. Heavy questions would arise, but not always an answer. I began to evaluate concepts deeply and impulses that I have and do without thinking about. Soon my mind began to take me to my best life experiences in a very vivid way. I had goose bumps up and down my body and felt extremely sentimental as I began to appreciate the friends and people I love in my life. After that I started to feel the weight of the time alone without any stimulation but my mind. I began to go in and out of feeling present until my time was up, and the light in the pod slowly began to light. I showered, had some tea, and left feeling a new sense of awareness I hadn't felt in a long time. This was a truly unique and spiritual experience. read more
