Flint House has a great atmosphere -- modern, comfortable, and visually appealing. The decor shows real attention to detail, creating a nice space to relax and enjoy a meal. Our server was excellent: attentive, friendly, and efficient throughout our visit. Unfortunately, the food didn't match the quality of the service or ambiance. The burger was sad, sure it was the basic 4-H burger but still it was very underwhelming in flavor and presentation. Great food but they seriously need to hire more wait staff. Four of us came for dinner a few weeks ago wanting to pad our bellies before hitting Quetico. Started out trying to order a round of cocktails at the bar but the staff were running around like chickens with their heads cut off so it took a while. Got our drinks and were immediately seated (about a 30 minute wait). Very extensive menu. You could get pretty much anything you wanted at this place, but I had the battered walleye since I wasn't sure my compatriots were going to catch anything in the next week (they did, but no walleye). Our food arrived *very* quickly - apparently the kitchen is staffed better than the front side. My fish, veggies and potatoes were absolutely excellent (see below). Cool spot. Seem to be tied (same owner?) to the Cantilever across the border. This place had more selection for food, and much better prices, along with friendly staff as well. The only thing I'd say the Cantilever has over this is just the ambience there. But this place is a cool place too! read more

Great spot! We weren't sure what to expect since there aren't a ton of other options, but we were very pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. It was the first cold day of the season I think, and a little chilly with all the overhead fans on (hopefully they turn them off when the weather gets colder!). There was only one server and the restaurant had just opened when we stopped by for lunch, so service was just a little slow. But the food tasted fresh and was very flavorful! We started with the poutine (HUGE serving), then I had the French dip with savory sweet potato fries (oh my gosh, the au jus!!!!) and my husband had the smoked brisket sandwich (he was quite happy with it). Overall, would go back and recommend for anyone looking for a good place to eat when in the area. read more

Wow what a find. We asked for a local recommendation from the boarder guard when we crossed at International Falls and that recommendation was great. The Flint House is located in a restored 100+ year old building in Fort Frances, Ontario. They have done a great job renovating this building. Our dinner selections were the Cantilever Chicken and the Lobster Thermidor. The Cantilever Chicken is an original item on menu at the Flint House and I can see why. For sides I had baby roasted potatoes and vegetables. Both were seasoned to perfection. I could see why this item has been on the menu since the beginning of the restaurant. The Lobster Thermidor was equally delicious. They did not skimp on the lobster or the shrimp. Very tasty. If you are in the international Falls area I would highly recommend this place. The service was fantastic as well as the food. You couldn't find a better restaurant anywhere. read more

What a cute cool place for such a little town! The History of this place, which is written out on the drink menu, is actually quite interesting. We really love the old repurposed building and accents all around the room. The vibe is pretty awesome here and the decor is very original. Food is actually quite good. The potato cheddar bacon soup was a huge hit. Home made and very tasty. The crispy walleye tacos were decent, but the serving of walleye was pretty cheap. Lots of lettuce to full the soft taco shell and not enough fish. The cheddar cheese soaking at the bottom under the fish should also be revisited. Not the worse, but definitely not stellar. Overall, a very cool place and I'd recommend it over anything else in town. read more

Overpriced and not worth the quality or quantity of food they give you. I ordered their veggie burger as I am a vegetarian. The waitress asked me if I wanted gravy with my fries, I said no. She brought me gravy regardless, which would've been fine if I had known that it was gravy. I thought it was a dark ketchup at first, so I dipped my fries in it and started eating it, not knowing it was gravy and containing meat and against my diet. I became sick and ill afterward, wanting to vomit because she served me gravy with my VEGGIE BURGER and after I had explicitly said NO to the gravy. To make things even worse, I was charged additionally for the side of gravy that I did not want or ask for. Even without the gravy snafu, I found this restaurant to be somewhat lackluster and not worth the hype or price. read more

Both times the food was tasty, service good, and while the prices are definitely upscale, I think it's fair given the atmosphere and food. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this restaurant. The Flint House looked like a great place for a casual dinner, however our large group was not happy with almost any part of our experience. One of the waitresses, ( who was apparently the manager,) treated our teenagers very badly. She was upset when someone spilled a drink, after which she was rude and very snotty to all of them. The kids waited 1 1/2hours for their food, which was mostly cold by the time it came out to them. Not impressive. And lastly, our bills took forever to sort out, AND they had the audicisity to add an automatic 18 % gratuity to our bills. We spoke to the manager, who did not address any of our concerns , only continued to argue that they were a fine dining restaurant & not Boston Pizza. She did apologize, but did nothing else. Only defended their behaviour & dismissed our concerns. Tips are earned, when service is good... and nothing about the service we received was good. Needless to say, nobody in our large party will ever return to the Flint house, as our experience was anything but fine. You say you are kid friendly? I would argue. My suggestion is to learn some basic customer service skills in hopes that your customers will return. Fine dining , you are not. Your food and atmosphere was good, but the service we received was unacceptable. And that is what we will tell others about the Flint House. read more

Let me just start by saying I love the decor in this restaurant. I haven't had an opportunity to enjoy a dinner yet but have eaten lunch on 3 occasions. I really wanted to be blown away by the food but was a bit underwhelmed, I do really enjoy the fries and the dipping sauce, however each sandwich I had was average. The tables seem too close together for private conversations but other than that it was a nice experience and I look forward to trying out their dinner menu in the future. read more
