Slightly confusing on how the seating works when you walk in... I couldn't explain it again, so i won't try. The ordering process added to the confusion for me. Once you are past that.. it's a great place. As the name would suggest, there are books everywhere and that added to the overall fun of being there. Forgot what i had, but i enjoyed it. We stumbled upon a little place for breakfast the other day while in International Falls, called the library. Unless you know of the place, you could vary well drive right past it. Just off Hwy 11 by a rent all. The library roasts it's own coffee for starter, you walk in and it has a Library feel to it. You order at the counter and take a seat in a couple different areas , kind of like a study room. The server brought our coffee (in our case) and when the food was ready She brought it to. To start the coffee was one of the best I've had in a long time. I ordered the build your own omelet, with toast. As we were waiting for our order I noticed that the place was filling up. My friend and I stopped by for a quick breakfast/coffee stop. We were initially intrigued by the whole library concept and it's definitely a unique place for it. We found out that all these books were up for grabs and donated here for people to take for free. I really love that. I honestly wish I had more time to browse, but the books were all jumbled up (unlike an actual library) and would literally take a whole day or more to browse thru. But, it was nice to know. In terms of dining in - you first order at the counter, take a number and they bring it to your table when it's ready. The food is really quite simple. You literally get what you order - nothing fancy. I personally ordered the omelette (with sausage/mushrooms) & a side of hash browns. The omelette was literally the sausage and mushroom in between a rolled up thin egg. The hashbrown was also just a jumble of fried thinly cut potato slices. It was really made so simply and different from what I expected, but it was fair considering that it was a good price for what they offered. I also ordered the cookie dough iced coffee. They had tons of torani syrups in the back, so I definitely knew that they were using these syrups to bring out the flavor. While in International Falls and Voyagers NP we came here for breakfast. Cute place atmosphere like a library. Books around to read also do coffee roasting. You order at the counter and they bring it out to you. I got two eggs, bacon and toast and coffee. My husband got the omelet, toast and coffee. Such an interesting concept. All the books did make it feel like a library. We stopped in for lunch. Honestly International Falls doesn't have a lot of food options. I tried the walleye. It was crispy which I didn't expect since it is baked not fried. The workers were all very friendly. The only thing I found unusual was that you sat down and they brought your drink but then you had to go wait in line at the counter to order and pay in advance. They did bring the food to your table though. They had a lunch buffet but it was only nachos and soup and salad. They did roast their own coffee too, although I did not order any. It smelled good. Best spot in the area for breakfast/lunch. After eating mediocre meals the prior 2 days, I can say the food here was genuinely delicious. The place itself is adorable, with a beautiful mural and donated/free books everywhere that you are welcome to take/leave as you please (I grabbed one for me and one for my kids). And the service was impeccable - friendly, sweet, attentive staff. They make their own corned beef! But no corned beef hash on the menu :( read more

Is it possible to give ten stars? This place should be in the Yelp hall of fame! In the hard scrabble town of International Falls, this is a restaurant with a great atmosphere, delicious food-- and they give books away to every diner who wants one. It's like a little library with food! We ate twice here: breakfast was house roasted coffee, pancakes as eggs. All good! And then dinner was a Mexican bowl and a French dip sandwich. The brisket in the sandwich was first class. All good was really good. We had beer on draft in the evening. The staff was amazingly friendly at both breakfast and dinner. Really wonderful place. The service and the theme is so nicely done at The Library. They allow people to take and donate books at will, regardless of your purchase. We walked away with a few good reads! Unfortunately, the food is really a hit or miss. The table behind ours ordered completely different things after us, received food twenty minutes earlier than us and loved every bite. In our case, a lot of the lettuce in the side salad was soggy and decaying. There was also a lot of issues with the sirloin. Instead of the medium rare we ordered, it was definitely a tough well done. The sauce tasted like watery gravy, the potatoes pieces were all different sizes (and therefore cooked very differently), and the Brussels sprouts were just lightly steamed - zero color or seasoning. For $23, it's fair to expect more. read more

The atmosphere is casual and friendly. They have burgers, grilled cheese, Mac & CHS, all with sides of chips. A little pricey with just a sandwich and side of chips. You find your own seat. You walk up to counter to order, but they bring out to your table, then take plates when done. You can look around for a used book while waiting for your food and read at table, or take with. We found a Mensa book. Our food was good, but know how you want your burger cooked. If you don't want pink, tell them. We had grilled cheese and burgers. Stopped in for breakfast and while it's not much to look at on the outside, the atmosphere on the inside is warm because of the plethora of books lining many of the walls and the friendliness of the staff. I give it 4 stars because we did have awhile to wait for our food to arrive. However, our waitress frequently stopped at our table to make sure we were ok, to apologize for the wait and to refill our coffees which we appreciated. When our food did arrive, it made the wait worth it! A nice hearty breakfast is a great way to start the day of romping around the park! read more

The Library is a cool spot. Love all the books and the atmosphere. We needed food and I needed good coffee. I am gluten-free. I was able to get a great mocha....so good I ordered 2nd. I ordered the french dip with provolone, for which they used gluten-free bread. It was tasty. It came with kettle chips that I liked, which was surprising b/c I rarely like kettle chips. They also have a gluten-free double chocolate cake that was delicious. My husband, who is not gluten-free, got flatbread pizza and raspberry cheesecake. The service was excellent. We stopped in for a late lunch after a morning of exploring the national park. The service was friendly, fun, attentive and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxing and a fun environment as if you're in a reading room in a well appointed house. The food was outstanding.
