What are the treatments like for pain from osteoarthritis for a 75 year old with range of movements issues and apin?

Hello Francine, We provide one on one care to all of our patients. Most likely, treatment for OA will involve manual techniques similar to massage to relax, activate, and… Read more

I've been working with Joel, the owner of Flex, who is most likely about the best PT you'll find in the city.

I have been seeing Jon Doyle at Spear for two months and I'm very happy there. The facility is…read moreclean, neat and cheery, and everyone is respectful and friendly. I have been making a lot of progress with recovery from my injury and I am sure that's because of Jon's guidance. He's very careful to always check in with me and make sure that I'm working hard enough, but not too hard, and that nothing ever hurts. It's a big open space, staffed by about 2-4 therapists at a time plus 1-4 assistants and students (plus client care staff at the front). Intake appointments are never double-booked, so you've got your therapist's full attention. After that, it seems that patients are scheduled about 1-2 per PT every half hour, for each hour-long session. I have not found it to be a problem to have Jon working with me and other patients at the same time. He always starts a session by talking with me and giving me his full attention. Often when I am doing an exercise that I already know and feel comfortable with, he will step away to work with another patient for a few minutes. Sometimes he'll spend the first 30 min of my appointment with me, then give a list of exercises to one of the assistants and have them walk me through them. But when I need his help, he's always there. At the end of a session, they always offer ice or heat to cool down and rest. Maybe it's the endorphins from having just worked my body, or maybe it's the healing vibes in the air, but I always get a warm fuzzy feeling watching everyone else in the room. Everyone is either working to become stronger, or helping others heal their bodies. It's a beautiful thing.

The therapists here are good (the only reason it's two stars), but the way they schedule is…read moreridiculous. The therapists have little time with you because they're bouncing back and forth between patients and that is when they HAVEN'T double-booked (which they call "accommodation" as though they asked you if it was alright to do).

Is there an option for 10/5 stars?…read more I first went to Helen in 2019 for an IT band issue, and her treatment protocol completely changed my running and stretching routine. I even encouraged my family to adopt a similar approach. Years later, I still follow the same stretching techniques she taught me. Over the past few years, I moved around the country and never found anyone as good as Helen. Recently, I moved back to NYC and saw Helen for a back spasm--she continues to be a magician. I'm so grateful to work with her again. Helen is in a league of her own. I could write an entire post about her kindness, but I'll leave it at this.

Helen is one of the very few physical therapists who: 1) treats the pelvic floor 2) is holistic and a great generalist too 3) takes insurance and charges affordable rates 4) sees patients 1:1 rather than many patients at the same time, bouncing between them and leaving you to do an exercise on your own while tending to someone else 5) will check in on you between appointments and answer questions via email or text 6) spends over an hour with you at each appointment 7) is fun to talk to and not awkward at all, which is a must when you are working on the pelvic floor! I would recommend her to anyone needing a physical therapist, but especially those looking for pelvic floor PT.

My surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery is impressed with my progress , and I made her aware that it's because of the expertise and guidance I'm receiving from Andrea Kwok, Clinical Director at Spear's location at 2273 Broadway. Andrea is exceptional in truly focusing on individuals; she's keenly aware and identifies where I'm having issues with range of motion, pain, and balance difficulties- and then, for my session that day, creates a custom exercise routine to address that day's issues. Her amazing ability to recall my status and issues from my previous session is very impressive and reassures me that I'm receiving expert individual care. She also created an exercise regimen for me to execute at home using the Spear App, which has significantly helped me progress. In two months, I've achieved a knee bend of 124 degrees. I highly recommend that folks needing PT sign up at Spear at 82nd Street on the Westside.

Claiming to take insurance but overcharges the consumer? On one visit EOB states my bill should be $62.77, Spear charged me $225, on another date, EOB says the visit is $40.79, Spear charged me $165. I really don't see how they get to do this?

I first saw Dr. Williams after 6 months of treatment by a sports orthopedist for an "undiagnosed" running injury that was progressively worsening to the point of making even walking painful. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Williams, who patiently listened to me, reviewed the previous MRI's and within a few minutes pinpointed the issue and provided a clear treatment plan. Three weeks later, I was walking - and running - with no pain. Dr. Lal has also treated me, and in similar fashion, listened, quickly pinpointed the issue, outlined an action plan and had me moving again in no time. Additionally, they both have early and late office hours, which definitely makes scheduling around the work day so much easier. The front office is friendly and they are super informed and transparent about costs and billing from the moment you make your first appointment, which allows patients to understand what their costs will be from day 1. All around - a great organization, led by people who obviously care about their patients wellness and do everything possible to make it achievable.
