I realize it ain't the Holiday Inn and that this facility was not designed to sleep in but I fail to see why I ask a senior Veteran was so grossly disrespected. I feel that it is a shame they have nothing better to do than startle a senior who just closed his eyes a moment. At first my strategy was to just plain stay out of this place. today I happened to be in El Cajon so I decided to give them a try. I would have been treated better had I just gone to ll the Chula Vista Library. My New Strategy is to continue coming to this library and continuing to report on how poorly the treat seniors. I could see their problem if I brought in a pillow and blanket and laid down on the floor in people's way. But I'm on a chair I am not harming anyone by closing my eyes for a few moments. I feel it's a big waste of money to pay a security guard to harass seniors. I've already did other reviews so I won't address other areas of the library.

There is consistently either a disability group or middle school students that run around talking loudly with zero consideration for the people around them. It's disruptive, disrespectful, and completely defeats the purpose of a library. I understand that public spaces are for everyone, but that doesn't mean basic courtesy should go out the window. A library is supposed to be a place for reading and studying not a place for ongoing loud conversations. If people want to socialize, there are plenty of other places to do that. The library seriously needs to step up and enforce noise levels or create strictly enforced quiet zones or hours.

But shame on me: in recent years, I've contributed to the slow unraveling of American society by shunning the small but community-centric offerings of the local public library. I want to blame TV and the internet, Amazon and TikTok, but that's a childish dodge, obvious and irresponsible, like blaming the rain for ruining my car's interior, instead of myself, for not putting up my windows. Libraries are - have always been - more than simple book repositories. They're classrooms; study halls; venues for public meetings; and "third places", where people can relax and interact with folks other than those they know from home and at work. Like many Americans, I've found technologies and places to stand in for the library. Much of the research and reading I do, I do online; and when I want the bustle of strangers, I sit in coffee shops. [half-hour long pause] I was going to add something here about the charming old-fashioned American tradition of submitting ballots at a library or other public venue, and I was going to ruefully assert that COVID-19 is to blame for my having stopped doing so. But COVID-19 isn't the threat it used to be, and the ugly truth is that I'm afraid to go into crowds of gun-totin', antisocial, right-wing extremist MAGA nutjobs whose attention is focused on politics, and who would rather see their fellow citizens shot dead than to see their candidates lose fair elections. I miss the library, but I'm not willing to die for it.

The library offers Wi-Fi, a morning book club and coffee conversation time, several arts and craft for seniors and adults, story time for the little ones, and classic movie nights. One thing that I really appreciate is that they offer a after school S.T.E.A.M support team for students. The library opens at 9:30 AM and is closed on Sundays.

It's a really nice library, if you drive an electric car. They have a couple of spots where you can charge your car while you're going to the library. The people who attend the class are allowed to sign up immediately after their class is over - most of them sign up again as there's no consequence to not showing which leaves no extra spaces - so unless you're already in the class you're constantly going to be put on a waitlist for which you never get called. I've dealt with 3 with my college age kids, and this one is bottom of the barrel bad. From the lack of competent and knowledgeable workers when you enter the front admin building, to the bookstore that overcharges AND THEN DOESNT GET YOUR BOOK TO YOU AFTER 3 WEEKS, this school will have you hating the college experience from day ONE. The counselors give vague and unhelpful transfer info and everyone in general here seem either unhappy to work or that they don't care to do anything but the bare minimum to clock in and out. Cuyamaca is run far, far better, bet even more so, go to City college or another that has better transfer rates to SDSU or other unis.
