It's a small neighborhood branch of the library, if you're looking for something larger go to the one in downtown La Mesa. This location is perfect for kids though. They've got events for kids and a nice little kids room. It's pretty much how I remember it being all those years ago. If you're like me you probably don't browse as much as you go online and order what you want for pickup, so this location fills that need well. The holds shelves are located right next to the door and the self checkout kiosks are across from there, so if you're antisocial you can get everything and leave without interacting with a human. I went to the desk because I had a question and the employee was super friendly and helpful. I prefer this location because it's really convenient as far as parking and running in goes. They have two hour street parking in front and a small parking lot in the back, no steps if you've got any mobility problems or a stroller. Hours are posted online, but they are closed Sunday and Monday, something to keep in mind. The book depository is in front to the right of the entrance as well as the drop off ballot box that we use every election.

Sure, it's a library - but after spending a year hanging…read moreout in Cambridge, Boston, and other Massachusetts reading institutions, none measured up to the beauty, calmness, and amenities provided by this outlying library. I came in as a first time visitor, and was provided with a complete tour of the library. From the available events space, bookstore, computer lab, to the books. I stayed for about two hours completing work, before heading to the back deck where I watched people enjoying their time in the park with birds singing. I will certainly be a regular here moving forward.

Grateful for a local library BUT…read more.. I agree with everyone on here, the teens coming in here are straight up feral. Super loud, rude, cussing, and hanging all over the furniture. None of the staff seem to care at all, and it's like these kids think it's their afternoon hangout spot. Not for reading or homework (which would be awesome!) but for being obnoxious, and showing off how many times they can say the F work in one minute. Please put up some ground rules printed out on the door for these out of control children, or KICK THEM OUT, and parents please teach your kids some basic manners.

The kids don't realize at the time and think they're getting away with it. The kids and I have a decent understanding. I have seen 1 other adult try to get "Authoritative"... Let's just say he's lucky the librarian saved him. And no I wasn't on his side. You're not their parents, you're not designated parent/watcher/keeper/care giver etc... You're not staff, just cause you're older doesn't mean you have auto authority. Occasionally I'll immediately step in for something. Kid gets out of range of parent that I'm good with, kid tries to set off a fire alarm etc. Just go to staff and say something.

I hadn't been in this library in over ten years but visited recently to pickup a book for book club. I needed help finding my requested book and one of the librarians searched high and low and found it. She was great: personable, funny, and knowledgeable. She mentioned other events and books while I was speaking with her which was great because I didn't know about any of them. This is the perfect neighbourhood library. It was quiet and open. It brought back so many memories of my summer vacation watching kids sign up for the summer reading challenge and pursuing the aisles. They are very welcoming and helpful. The library itself is very clean and organized. They have a screen that displays events going on in the library. When we were trying to take a picture of one of the events they made sure to tell us that all events are also listed online. I didn't know they offer so many events and opportunities for kids. We will definitely be checking out more events to come at this library.

Libraries are for more than just books!…read more This is the closest library to my home and I occasionally visit this place as a little mental getaway. This library is small but they have a beautiful selection of books that is neatly organized and presented by their dedicated staff. They have many many resources beyond just books to borrow. Along with computers, internet access, printing, and the arts and crafts, they have a knowledgeable staff who are well equipped with tools to help you navigate different problems. At one point, I had visited this library in search of ways to better navigate my healthcare resources and the librarian not only supplied me with free books and pamphlets of providers and procedures that would be covered under Medical but also directed me towards what websites to look at and how exactly to find a provider and book an appointment.

Best library in San Diego…read more pros. - There is a park on the other side of the parking lot. - There is a courtyard in front of the library ( benches to sit_ - there is a conference room in the building next door ( I went to their "movie day", see their online posing about that). - individual study rooms ( always one of the 3 available). - Is open 6 days a week. - On Mondays through Friday, their hours are either 9 am to 5 or 8 pm ( other public libraries are either 9 am t6o 5 pm or 11:30 am to 8 pm). Cons - I cannot think of any. I am a nursing student, so a medical library is ideal. There are anatomical models which was helpful for my anatomy class. This library has separate study rooms, which is nice when you want to get work done in a quiet space ( not that the library is ever loud). It is clean, well kept (I can say the same thing about the park next door). I come here to study, then I eat my lunch and sit in the courtyard. Other public libraries have a lot going on (classes, reading times for kids, and that makes noise). This feels more like a library at a medical college where med students study then have coffee and food in the courtyard. Other libraries have a patio, but is only available when the library is open. This courtyard is accessible anytime ( so if you get there 30 minutes before the library opens, you still have somewhere to sit and have your coffee). Coffee machine not included

They also have a community room that they used to hold for meetings but when there's no meetings, they still don't allow anybody to sit in there to use the table. There are no other tables available in this library to study just chair, chairs and corners, but most of the tables are occupied with computers or games so I couldn't even use a table to study if I wanted to. If you're lucky to get one of the rooms, that's the only way this place would be worth it or if you just wanna sit on one of the chairs and read a book. But to bring my laptop or books and be able to study is pretty much luck of the draw.

High quality content and friendly staff to boot! They also have a seed library where people bring and take seeds home to plant. Just amazing! Sounded like an older male with a very raspy voice, maybe a smoker? Not sure, however he was very rude about it just clicked instead of discussing with me why HE personally couldn't be of any help or directed me to someone with more knowledge. I know librarians are severally underpaid but that's no excuse to go around the policies or be rude.

i had the opportunity to help plan a community education series that was co-hosted by the malcolm x…read morelibrary, so i got to spend a lot of time here. it's a really great library. great place for community involvement. there's always different events going on here, so check out the community board up at the front for flyers for upcoming performances/events. helpful staff, clean bathrooms (always a plus). the only sliiight problem is that even though there's free wi-fi, you gotta find the sweet spot (try the upper level directly across from the help desk). people that go to the library are super friendly. random people always strike up a conversation with me when i'm there, and i've gotten to meet some fab people!

The library had my organization booked in the event room and there was no air-conditioning. This was my first meeting with this organization, but not my first meeting at this location. It was a Saturday morning, the second week of August, and the doors were propped open for the meeting. The meeting hosts decided to end the meeting after 45 minutes based on the conditions. It was RIDICULOUSLY HOT and stuffy in the event room. I hope that the library can get the AC fixed soon. Many community organizations utilize this space regularly and August has been SUPER hot with the heat wave.
