We were charged $20 for a book they claim was ruined because it was dirty. The pictures speak for themselves. This book was not ruined. First off I want to say me and my kids LOVED this library. We come here often and have checked out over 100 books over the last few months. A fair warning to anyone with kids borrowing books. They will charge you if you if you get any size scuff anywhere on a book. I don't feel like their claim was even remotely justifiable. The lady working at the front had to point out what she meant. I'm pretty sure the huge fat stamp they stick on the book is bigger than the smudge they're talking about. I also don't understand why they charged us for ruining the book when the smudge was on the cover, nowhere near any words you read. Not ruined at all. I'd like to say, we come to the library bIecause we can borrow free books. We aren't made of money, so charging $20 for a small smudge seems ridiculous. Lakeside libarary: you've caused a mom of little kids to not want to come and borrow your treasure filled shelves out of fear of being charged for every book we borrow. I understand there was a tiny smudge but I don't agree with your judgement. For all I know it got scuffed while going through your book drop or a previous borrower. We're sad because we truly loved coming here and now we won't. So I'm sad to not be giving this place a 5 star review.. if we had returned our books anywhere else this wouldn't have happened.

The lakeside public library is in a new location! It's now across the street from AutoZone and Planet Fitness. This library is badass and brand new. There's a patio for reading and eating outside and you can check out laptops. Overall it seems like it's smaller than the El Cajon library but it seems like a very nice Library, new and modern. I recommend coming by and reading something!!

Do you have a book called "Back to life by Emily Lark?

Check the San Diego County Library website. You can search the entire card catalogue and even request the book you want to be transfered to your branch.

When will the library open or expect to open?

The library is open, but still has limited hours. They will close this building soon when they open the new building. Personally very sad I won't be able to visit the library, playgrounds and lakes with my kids anymore, since the library will move… Read more

For many years, I voted at the Santee branch of the San Diego County Library. The ladies there were…read moreknowledgeable and helpful, and I always enjoyed the childhood memories that the smell of the library brought back for me. But shame on me: in recent years, I've contributed to the slow unraveling of American society by shunning the small but community-centric offerings of the local public library. I want to blame TV and the internet, Amazon and TikTok, but that's a childish dodge, obvious and irresponsible, like blaming the rain for ruining my car's interior, instead of myself, for not putting up my windows. Libraries are - have always been - more than simple book repositories. They're classrooms; study halls; venues for public meetings; and "third places", where people can relax and interact with folks other than those they know from home and at work. Like many Americans, I've found technologies and places to stand in for the library. Much of the research and reading I do, I do online; and when I want the bustle of strangers, I sit in coffee shops. [half-hour long pause] I was going to add something here about the charming old-fashioned American tradition of submitting ballots at a library or other public venue, and I was going to ruefully assert that COVID-19 is to blame for my having stopped doing so. But COVID-19 isn't the threat it used to be, and the ugly truth is that I'm afraid to go into crowds of gun-totin', antisocial, right-wing extremist MAGA nutjobs whose attention is focused on politics, and who would rather see their fellow citizens shot dead than to see their candidates lose fair elections. I miss the library, but I'm not willing to die for it.

It's a small neighborhood branch of the library, if you're looking for something larger go to the one in downtown La Mesa. This location is perfect for kids though. They've got events for kids and a nice little kids room. It's pretty much how I remember it being all those years ago. If you're like me you probably don't browse as much as you go online and order what you want for pickup, so this location fills that need well. The holds shelves are located right next to the door and the self checkout kiosks are across from there, so if you're antisocial you can get everything and leave without interacting with a human. I went to the desk because I had a question and the employee was super friendly and helpful. I prefer this location because it's really convenient as far as parking and running in goes. They have two hour street parking in front and a small parking lot in the back, no steps if you've got any mobility problems or a stroller. Hours are posted online, but they are closed Sunday and Monday, something to keep in mind. The book depository is in front to the right of the entrance as well as the drop off ballot box that we use every election.

It is so big, with so many different sections. They have an area for young toddlers, to toddlers, to kids. I was so impressed with how much books they have. In addition to that, they have CDs, DVDs, magazines, pretty much anything you can think of. There are a couple of different areas where they can sit and learn. I do love how there were different types of seats as well, for instance, for the younger kids they have the little balanced chairs. There is lots of play area for the kids to have sensory play. They have educational computers, there was four. They have a little area for kids to play with toys and use their imagination, so many good items. There are puzzles, coloring, pages, arts and crafts. I was really blown away with how great this library is. The staff who helped me, I did not get her name, but she was so friendly and answering, and all my questions. They have so many activities also throughout the week, such as reading time and other arts and crafts that you can do amongst other peers. I am so looking forward to bringing my child here so that he can have more socialization with other kids. And mind you, this is all free, which is so amazing. I mean, obviously we have tax dollars that goes toward this. . But yeah, you can check out their schedule for what they offer for the kids. Yeah I think this is the best library so far that I've been to for the kids in San Diego. You can also park underground. Just make sure you take your parking validation upstairs so you do get the first two hours free when validated. After that, I believe it's $1.25 per hour or something like that. Which is very reasonable for downtown. Just remember if there's any events, like the baseball games or anything like that, there might be a surcharge, for example when comic con comes on as well. This is definitely a great learning spot for young children. And if you or someone you know, doesn't have the financial means to do arts and crafts, buy so many books, or have enough space to even how all of these things, this is great that this library has it all for free. I have taken my son to the little play area where we pay like $15 an hour for him to run around and it's further up in Mira Mesa. This is just another great alternative for a fraction of the cost. Sorry I just love this so much. We are definitely coming back here and also exploring as many different libraries as we can.

Boasting a total of 9 levels, there's an art gallery, bookstore, and even a high school here! If you're looking for gorgeous views of the city while you read, work, or study, head up to levels 8 and 9. Everyone here is super friendly and there's plenty of spacious seating options with outlets! However, if you're planning to visit, you should know that quite a few homeless folks utilize this place to rest and sleep. They're very respectful and keep to themselves, so it didn't bother me personally. Note: They have a parking garage underground and they validate up to 2 hours!
